Phones are too heavy, can’t wait for a lighter titanium frame. Dynamic island coming to all models will speed up adoption, a win win. If the regular phones get 120/90 promotion they’ll be a perfect option for family.

I'm almost ready to switch to iPhone from Android, but there's a few essentials they'll have to add first:

  • USB-C port (with USB-PD charging) so I don't need a separate cable just for my phone!
  • Support for a high-quality Bluetooth audio codec, preferably LDAC but I'd accept aptX HD.
  • Fingerprint reader (under display, on side, or on back)
As soon as Apple can check these boxes I promise I'll put my order in. Don't really care about switching from aluminum to titanium tbh!

I think you'll be waiting a while longer for the fingerprint reader. Last rumors I saw expected it maybe around 2025.

If it was going to be on the power button like the iPads, they would have added it already.

Honestly I could probably live without the fingerprint reader if I had to, but the Bluetooth audio codecs are a complete deal breaker. It's criminal in 2023 for a "flagship" phone to only support the low-quality SBC and AAC codecs! 😣

Titanium is a huge upgrade. I loathe how heavy the Pro models are.
Agreed on the heavy Pro models. They've reached (or surpassed for many) a reasonable weight/comfort/ergonomics ratio. Though from what I've read, titanium has only half the stiffness, so to make the frame of the same stiffness, you need to use twice as much material with titanium. I suspect very little weight reduction from a Ti frame, but it's great for marketing. I'm guessing most of the added weight we're feeling is the larger camera system and cramming as much battery into the phone as they can. I don't see that part changing.

If it is like the brushed titanium in Apple Watch Edition then it will easily scratch as the silver stainless steel. Will help more in the weight department but that’s it. They should just go with aluminum. Why do the Pro phones have to have a stainless steel or titanium frame? iPad Pros are aluminum as well. Would be so much lighter.
Because they have to use something to claim it is "pro" and charge more for it. I agree though, this fascination with the side rails (that will still scratch because apple will use the cheapest of whatever material they use) is laughable.

Do [lots of] people [still] actually consider the 13/14 Pro Max models 'heavy'? Unwieldy because of the size but heavy?

Anyone who's owned an older Plus model, like the 8 Plus, would feel that the dimensions are very similar for the length and width yet the weight difference is ~1.3 Ounces compared to the newer 13/14 Pro Max models.

There are people who love the Pro Max model, mainly for the larger screen and longer battery life and don't mind or have gotten use to the larger size, at least as admitted on other online forums and comment boards.
Went from the 8 Plus to 13 Pro then back to the 13 Pro Max and don't have an issue with the weight. Sure, it's wieldy but so was the 8 Plus, but you get used to it. Love the bigger screen and the longer battery life ~1.5~2 days on a full charge with occasional online use and listening to music/audiobooks, which is great!

"all four iPhone 15 models will be equipped with a USB-C port instead of Lightning"

This is the only change that matters to me. Bring it on.

Eliminate the chrome border in favor of a matte finish (similar to non pro models - but keep matte finish on back glass).

Allow access to "blacked out" pixels for "DI". They can go back to black when doing their "DI" animation. Any extra screen is welcomed and the purposely blacking out the pixels looks stupid.

Even larger camera bump to annoy the camera bump crowd (seriously, I do not understand why people complain about it).

20,000 volt security system as seen here:

I don't get the obsession with the frame... Why can't it just be aluminum its plenty strong, light and cheap.
Because it’s just that: cheap.

Premium materials is still desired. I think. I prefer.

I wonder if this means ProMotion will also be coming to the lower end phones. Part of the magic behind the dynamic island is how fluid and “alive” it feels. It seems like you need ProMotion for that illusion to really hold.
I could see them skimping out again on Promotion for the regular models. Even with dynamic island. Remember: they want to differentiate the Pro line.

I think for 99.999% of people the sound is great from the iPhone and have no clue what you are talking about. Same goes for the frame and photos/videos.

If you care that much about audio quality you'd get a USB DAC (and a lightning to USB-C adaptor) and use wired headphones. I listen to music when I am out and about not when I'm trying to listen to the best quality audio I can get.
