Agreed on the heavy Pro models. They've reached (or surpassed for many) a reasonable weight/comfort/ergonomics ratio. Though from what I've read, titanium has only half the stiffness, so to make the frame of the same stiffness, you need to use twice as much material with titanium. I suspect very little weight reduction from a Ti frame, but it's great for marketing. I'm guessing most of the added weight we're feeling is the larger camera system and cramming as much battery into the phone as they can. I don't see that part changing.
Titanium is stronger and lighter than aluminum. Apple made a big deal about picking titanium for the first PowerBook G4’s because of that.

It would me a marketing gimmick and “justification” for price increase - there is no need for Ti in an iPhone frame

Yup. I remember those. The current iphone frames are stainless steel which I believe is more rigid than titanium.

Do [lots of] people [still] actually consider the 13/14 Pro Max models 'heavy'? Unwieldy because of the size but heavy?

Anyone who's owned an older Plus model, like the 8 Plus, would feel that the dimensions are very similar for the length and width yet the weight difference is ~1.3 Ounces compared to the newer 13/14 Pro Max models.

There are people who love the Pro Max model, mainly for the larger screen and longer battery life and don't mind or have gotten use to the larger size, at least as admitted on other online forums and comment boards.
Went from the 8 Plus to 13 Pro then back to the 13 Pro Max and don't have an issue with the weight. Sure, it's wieldy but so was the 8 Plus, but you get used to it. Love the bigger screen and the longer battery life ~1.5~2 days on a full charge with occasional online use and listening to music/audiobooks, which is great!

Yes!!!!!!!

When I switch from my 1+ 10Pro to my 13PM the weight diff is very noticeable.
Drop into an Apple Store and compare the Plus to the ProMax.

Not seeing why Apple stuck with the SS.

I think for 99.999% of people the sound is great from the iPhone and have no clue what you are talking about. Same goes for the frame and photos/videos.

The majority of iPhone owners only know the iPhone sound. It isn’t 99.99+.
There are quite a few of us out here who enjoy better quality sound and/or are familiar with these items.
Even if you show them what they are missing - I have done this - since the normal iPhone user does not have access they just go back to what they have. This gap is not the users fault. It lies solely on Apple’s shoulders.

The iPhone is becoming the smartphone version of Windows Vista: Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, Enterprise and Ultimate.

I really think Apple could do some serious introspection by dropping this down to flagship models:

iPhone 15 Max - 6.7 inch - $999
iPhone 15 - 6.1 inch - $699

Both identical in features and functionality with the only difference being the screen size. Honestly, I think the Pro name is ridiculous and I find Ultra to be silly.

As for an entry level model, this is what I recommend:

iPhone SE - 5.8 inch screen based on the iPhone 11 design for $499. Now this is the one that you throttle when it comes to having the latest SOC, but keep it updated every year apart of any major design change.

Three distinct choices.

With the margin Apple has on iPhone sale price this could be easily done.
Not sure what the shareholders might say though … ;)

The problem is those margins are getting extremely slim anyway because duh, duh, duuuuuuuuuh… people are keeping their iPhones longer. Major reason not enough significant feature changes to warrant upgrading even every few years. The new Dynamic Island feature for example could have at least been added to the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus. There is nothing ‘Pro’ about that. Many of the 3 month later reviews are concluding it’s clever but not much of a big deal. Details are even unraveling regarding the A16 SoC using the same GPU cores as the A15.

It’s almost like the iPhone is starting to hit a brick wall. Sure, services like Emergency SOS are great benefits; how much is this moving the needle and why this couldn’t have been implemented as far back as iPhone 12.

The drip dropping of features on top of even realizations about the iPhone camera making photos look worse and actually not doing well in major a/b testing polls from MKBHD prove the iPhone is or has already lost its gold standard status.

What keeps me loyal is the stickiness of the ecosystem.

Won’t your phone be in a case anyway so what is the benefit of the titanium band. I get it with the Watch because you can actually see it on your wrist.

I don't get the obsession with the frame... Why can't it just be aluminum its plenty strong, light and cheap.
I also dont get it, or to be frank I do "get it" but I dont like it...

The reason is simple, exotic materials cost more and is a great way for Apple to overcharge everything on their phones. So titanium is an amazing reason for apple to charge more.

As for the benefits... seriously it is laugahble. Dont get me wrong. Stainless steel is laughable as well.

Phones should be aluminum. Its durable enough, it doest scratch like crazy and it still feels "premium". Titanium? Why? Oh because stainless steel is heavy and because titanium is more durable.... But wait why stainless steel over aluminum? Because heavy and gloss paint feels more premium... but wait now heavy is bad.

I dont get it seriously. Who needs titanium frame? Guys who treat their phones like crap apparently, ok though, I give them that, but how many of these people are out there? How many of these people buy 2k phones to treat them like this? How many are even here?

This is pure BS. Apple just looks for the next "premium" excuse to charge more, and the flock the next reason to boast in public "oh look my phone is TITANIUM, doesnt that sound COOOOL?".

PS: Before you bs me know that i just upgrade from an iphone X to an iphone 14 pro... I like apple products, i dont like stupid things that dont help at all or provide anything. Stainless steel SUCKS. Its heavy, it scratches it just sucks. It sucked on iphone X, it sucks on my 14 pro. My iphone X looks like utter crap (and yes it has been polished 2-3 times, but every time you polish it it scratches even easier so there is no end to it) and yet my wife's iphone 6s with that "peasant" aluminum is still in pristine condition...

I agree with this. Aluminum is nice but it's not as premium and exclusive as Stainless steel or Titanium. Heck, I would love Apple to introduce a Ceramic Edition iPhone Pro models.
The other guy said carbon fiber... i swear you folk is the reason why people on the internet mock apple users...

Cant wait for an all diamond frame iphone... I need it... dont know why... but its PREEEEEMIUUUUUMMM and I can flex with it...
