The iPhone is becoming the smartphone version of Windows Vista: Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, Enterprise and Ultimate.

I really think Apple could do some serious introspection by dropping this down to flagship models:

iPhone 15 Max - 6.7 inch - $999
iPhone 15 - 6.1 inch - $699

Both identical in features and functionality with the only difference being the screen size. Honestly, I think the Pro name is ridiculous and I find Ultra to be silly.

As for an entry level model, this is what I recommend:

iPhone SE - 5.8 inch screen based on the iPhone 11 design for $499. Now this is the one that you throttle when it comes to having the latest SOC, but keep it updated every year apart of any major design change.

Three distinct choices.

Because it’s just that: cheap.

Premium materials is still desired. I think. I prefer.
Premium ring around the phone? Most people slap it in a case where its not even visible.

Myself, I'd love the features of an iPhone Pro max with an aluminum frame and a plastic rear. It's parts I never see, as I've had a case on all of my iPhones since the 3G. And I've never broken a screen.

Honestly I could probably live without the fingerprint reader if I had to, but the Bluetooth audio codecs are a complete deal breaker. It's criminal in 2023 for a "flagship" phone to only support the low-quality SBC and AAC codecs! 😣
i hope apple will not only enhance audio quality but also reduce latency. for the latter apple has to implement another transfer mode than bluetooth, that would be industry leading. Latency is important to “millions“ of users who make! music with macs and ipads and dont want or cant use wired headphones.

Apple plans to expand the Dynamic Island to all four iPhone 15 models launching later this year, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The hardware-dependant feature is currently limited to the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

In his Power On newsletter today, Gurman said the iPhone 15 series will offer the same four screen sizes as the iPhone 14 series, meaning that customers can expect a 6.1-inch iPhone 15, 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Plus, 6.1-inch iPhone 15 Pro, and 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Pro Max. Following in the footsteps of the Apple Watch Ultra, Gurman previously suggested that the iPhone 15 Pro Max might be named the iPhone 15 Ultra.

The Dynamic Island is a pill-shaped area at the top of the iPhone's display that replaces the notch found on previous models. Aided by software, the Dynamic Island morphs into different shapes and sizes for Live Activities, system alerts, and other information. Display analyst Ross Young previously claimed that the Dynamic Island would be available on all four iPhone 15 models, and this rumor is now backed by Gurman.

As widely expected, all four iPhone 15 models will be equipped with a USB-C port instead of Lightning, according to Gurman. USB-C is a more universally adopted charging standard and offers faster data transfer speeds than Lightning.

Gurman also corroborated rumors claiming that iPhone 15 Pro models will feature a titanium frame with haptic volume buttons. Instead of physically moving, two new Taptic Engines inside the device would simulate the feeling of the buttons being pressed, similar to how the iPhone SE's Home button and newer MacBook trackpads work.

Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 15 series in September as usual.

Except when it does not.

Phones are too heavy, can’t wait for a lighter titanium frame. Dynamic island coming to all models will speed up adoption, a win win. If the regular phones get 120/90 promotion they’ll be a perfect option for family.
Titanium is heavier than the aluminum they are using now.

I don't get the obsession with the frame... Why can't it just be aluminum its plenty strong, light and cheap.
Aluminum is BUTTER SLIPPERY

Stainless steel is GRIPPY.

Any person should desire a more grippy material. Not less grippy material.

I use my iPhone without a case and if they go to matte titanium instead of the grippy stainless steel I won’t be getting the device. They are unimaginably stupid if they do that.

The iPhone X was finally able to be used without a case because it went from aluminum to stainless steel and glossy grippy glass. When the iPhone 11 Pro went to matte glass it was immediately FAR MORE SLIPPERY.

Grip is all the matters. Period. If you can’t hold onto the phone, it breaks. Grip is all that matters. Grip is all that matters.

What I would like to see with a future iPhone, is a micro-textured / matte finish screen glass made from sapphire, along with a raw titanium case. Skip the Qi charging on the back (so the case back can be titanium), then switch to a pinned MagSafe charger that could use the higher powered MacBook MagSafe chargers.

Of course I’ll be happy in the interim with 15 having a titanium frame and USB-C.
