I knew all we would get is emojis and something minor I’m not that excited for Apple updates anymore

OMG, this is HUGE - there I was thinking Apple were falling behind on the major tech trends and they pull this AMAZING coup out of their hat. Steve Jobs would be SOOO proud. I cannot believe how innovative Apple continue to be in the era of AI.
Have you missed all of the people posting here about how they want to be able to put icons wherever they want them on the desktop? This may not matter to you but it does to a large number of other Apple customers.

Will be fantastic if we can keep app icons where we need. Much needed. Should have been possible years ago. Glad to hear that it will finally be available this year.

On one hand, hopefully. There are developers who'll have good reason for not allowing their app icons changed in any way, i.e. because it's a registered trademark etc. Also imagine there are a bunch of app icons that could be rendered unrecognizable.
Isn’t app icon change already an option today for developers? Maybe that colour change is just to make that part of it easier? Or a chance for Apple to offer colour hues of app icons based on user wallpapers, mood, focus etc?
As for rearranging app icons, that should be just a system feature.

The daft thing is developers can already allow it by having versions of icons in different colours or even different designs. No one does because it’s not something that most developers want as they have a brand and users aren’t asking for this.

What? Some devs do have optional icons like for carrot weather, I think it has 57 to choose from, I wish more devs did this because some icons are hideous.

Anyways, I really hope we can choose our own custom icons instead of just the color, having to use shortcuts and then losing badges is a pain in the 🍑. IMG_2223.jpeg

I never understood why people wanted to be able to put blank spaces on their home screens. Wouldn't you want your home screen filled with apps so you don't have to scroll home screens as much?
Because I got a blank space baby, and I'll write your name~

The lack of customization in the past was a typical Apple move, because Apple pretends to know best what the customer wants. Apple wants to dictate the experience. I remember that they did not allow developers to hide the rounded display corners or the notch for a while. Not sure if that is still the case.

I think it should even be possible to customize individual logos or even add own logos. For example, I want the "X" app still use the Twitter bird as a logo. Some logos also use flashy colours to cry for more attention than they deserve.

Not the killer must-have feature if you ask me. You want to customize your home screen to organize your apps? Create folders and name them appropriately. With a little thought, you can probably get all your frequents on the home page.

But that’s creating 2 problems.

1. It’s ugly.

2. It covers up your wallpaper. Nothing like using a portrait image and the persons face is covered up by a big old app icon. This problem doesn’t exist on Android.

jesus lord, that's the whole point of customization. you're not supposed to understand why someone wants something different from you.

would you also like an explanation as to why one person at a barbecue chooses a hot dog and another chooses a burger?

yeah sorry, when i said no one, i meant its pretty unusual. the only reason i knew is i use and like the todo app Clear, which has lots of icons, some free, some you pay for. And actually i do like changing it because some of the designs are great.

but my general point is, IF it was a general desire for this from users, AND App makers were happy with their icons being in all sorts of colourse, then already most apps would have in settings, the ability to change the icon. very few do so i dont think there is the will from either the user or the app makers for this to be remotely a major thing.

Tim Cook finally pressed the emergency “let Apple users customize their iPhone” button after seeing dwindling iPhone sales.

Although I am welcoming this change and looking forward to use it, it's not a feature that had me using my iPhone 12 mini for almost four years now. It's that the iPhones are going to suffer the same problems that the iPads have for years: They are already great, do what they are made for perfectly and are still more than powerful enough for most users. And in the additional case of the mini, they have the perfect size for my jeans pockets, I don't want a man purse just to carry my phone around. :)

Which is useless. The passwords it generates are not accepted by 99% of websites.

Imho the biggest issues with it arent that, tbh i dont notice thats a problem. but i do wonder if the team in charge of it ever actually use it in real life.

All i want to change on it, is, wait until the password is correct before asking me if i want to save it. not all of us only use apple, and sometimes i create a login on a certain site on my work pc. months later i go to log in on my mac or iphone, and im trying to remember the password, and every time i try the phone pops up asking if i want to save it, and i have to decide that before the phone actually tries the password. so im clicking it away which is annoying and adding to the annoyance of my getting the password wrong, so by the time i get it right, ive already told it not to save the password, so im stuck in that loop forever, or until i go to log in and remember the password first time with confidence.

I just want more categories in the App Library as I'm too lazy to make folders and the Library categories are quite limited and wrong placement of some apps as well.

What a useless feature, when someone asks for help, you go to help and then can't find the icons because they will all have different colors than you're used to.

Sounds awesome, but I bet most of this picture will be limited to a few foreign languages and that’s it. I hate Apple for not providing same basic services across the globe except those who are better countries.

Example? emergency SOS via satellite is available in few countries in Europe, where basically all continent is covered by the satellites, but could provide such a service. That sucks as hell I like Google Google, which provides its services globally and you can enjoy them almost everywhere, Apple is far behind the competition and their definition of innovation is overused.

Jesus even apple dictation sucks 🤣🤣🤣

I'm not sure about others but being able to change the icon color isn't very important, how about changing the size? I would love to shrink them down and even be able to adjust the border-radius.

That said being able to place icons anywhere is very welcoming and extremely overdue!

Well, if that's how you feel, you should embrace Android, and donate all your Apple hardware to me. Deal?
