The March 16 date was nothing more than a guess based on past Apple events, but it still picked up traction.

Why even post about it when you didn't post a story about the event happening in the first place? You're just giving these outlets page views, interactions, and ad revenues.

Earlier this week, a report from Taiwanese site Economic Daily News suggested there would be a March 16 event, with the initial rumor picked up and circulated by a few other sites. Tried to find the article that was posted a few days ago talking about how there could be a March event, but it mysteriously seems to have disappeared.. unless the search function on this site is completely broken haha.

Total niche product that got overhyped because for some odd reason Apple is a me-too in this tiny niche space. Same with the never-happened Airpower thingie too. Remember that one? Why Apple decided NOT to compete in the Wireless WiFi base station space but compete with commiditised wireless chargers instead is beyond me.
I know. Those were some of their best products. Granted, there are other good ones out there now. But for a while Apple really led with Wi-Fi. I still use my AirPort Express for AirPlay. Probably my favorite Apple product.

With how Q4 2020 went anything can happen at literally anytime during Q1 2021.

The iPad Pro has been rumoured from pretty much every source that it’s coming during Q1 2021, with miniLED definitely an event is going to happen, they won’t let the iPad Pro slide by with another press release for two years running.

Considering we usually have at least a weeks notice of events roughly... that leaves 5 dates the event could happen now:

2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th March, so it could literally happen on any of those dates, I think it’s likely to be earlier in the month than later though.

Would love to know what has been delaying the Airtags for so long. Competitors seem to be rolling them out with no problems, so it makes me wonder if Apple doesn't have something different in mind for them. Guess we'll find out soon enough.

I've never seen any of the tile and other products in the wild. There's not a big market.

Is that airtag going to be all that useful? So people are so unorganized that they cannot find car keys inside home?

The only way I would buy tag is if it can track my kids via satellite.

It’s more about finding lost items.. like your forgotten wallet at the airport or the keychain you somehow dropped while walking from the car to the mall, then realizing you don‘t know where you dropped them during the day.

Tracking your kids is already easy with the iPhone in their pocket.

Yea but who is going to charge them regularly? It seems something you buy once and 6 months later you forgot you even had them as you haven't charged them in weeks and they're out of power and don't even work anymore when you do need them.

I know a couple people who use Tile... but yeah... it's definitely not a big market. Companies like Tile and TrackR have been around for years... but they're not exactly household names.

I think Samsung has a tracker too... and here we are again with Apple's rumored tracking device.

Apple has a good chance of legitimizing the tracker market as they tend to do with various technologies. Or... it will remain a ghost technology that no one cares about.

It could go either way.

The ace in the hole for Apple is if they can build their tracking technology into many of their products. You'll have a tracker on your keychain... and you can also track your iPhone, iPad, AirPods, Mac, Apple TV remote, etc. That would be cool.

Since Apple users tend to have multiple Apple devices in their households... I can actually see the benefits of that.

Or as I said... it could go nowhere. We'll have to see.

The speculation about an Apple Event used to matter when journalists had to book airline tickets a week ahead to fly to Cupertino or San Francisco.

But in this age of the virtual event... we'll hear about the livestream a couple days before and we'll simply watch it in a web browser.

I don't know why these guys on Twitter have such a hard-on about the date... :p

"Launch isn't on the 16th" but doesn't actually try and say when it is. Mark Gurman trying to look important smh
Probably because he doesn’t know? It takes weeks of planning for Apple to stage an event and if there’s no evidence they’re preparing for one, then Gurman can presumably be fairly confident there’s not one on the 16th while still not knowing when it will be.

He's such a narcissistic child. Either say what you know or shut the hell up.

"Won't be then!"
"Nope"
"Not this day"
"Haha I know, but no you guessed wrong. Guess again!"

Feel like he's 5 years old
Exactly. Just be direct, no-frills, and get straight to the point. Mark Gurman should cut all his crap and either say the exact date the event will be held (and also for other instances as well) or just get lost.
