Echoing earlier posts, the devices I'm most looking forward to are a smaller but capable iPad (which I'd like to use as a graphics tablet via Sidecar), and the rumoured AirPods 3.
I wonder whether the silicon shortage is affecting their lineup.

Total niche product that got overhyped because for some odd reason Apple is a me-too in this tiny niche space. Same with the never-happened Airpower thingie too. Remember that one? Why Apple decided NOT to compete in the Wireless WiFi base station space but compete with commiditised wireless chargers instead is beyond me.
I feel the same way as you do. Apple marketing has been quite successful with perpetuating self-fulfilling prophecies. Since early October, when I enter my kitchen to make coffee, my Nest Hub Max recognizes me and starts reading the morning news from various outlets. There's always at least one or two stations that will speak of new tech' and Apple specifically. Even the news broadcasters go out of their way to promote or otherwise defend Apple's product timelines. It's akin to the proverbial 'drum roll' as consumers wait for Apple's latest new gadget(s). We've become accustomed to hearing company announcements of new products that are months or years away before they're released.

There's quite a funny battle for power going on between all these fake leakers.

Apparently, LeaksApplePro are going to 'reveal' something big about Prosser soon according to their Twitter.

He's such a narcissistic child. Either say what you know or shut the hell up.

"Won't be then!"
"Nope"
"Not this day"
"Haha I know, but no you guessed wrong. Guess again!"

Feel like he's 5 years old
You downvoted my comment. Please explain why. How is your post any different? Personal feelings?

Yea but who is going to charge them regularly? It seems something you buy once and 6 months later you forgot you even had them as you haven't charged them in weeks and they're out of power and don't even work anymore when you do need them.
I guess you have a point. I would certainly forget it but I would probably only use them while traveling and then I would think of keeping them charged. For normal every day use I would forget about them. But then I would also only forget if my wallet is in the gym bag or my pants..

The Twitter screen shots means this is a ligit article. Proof that what we just told you is real, because see here, a picture of it!

Is that airtag going to be all that useful?
I guess that depends on who you are, how much they cost and how well they work.
So people are so unorganized that they cannot find car keys inside home?
If they are inexpensive enough, I would put them on most of my power tools that never get put back in the right place. Same for all the video production gear. Lots of things that cost more than $150 that would make sense to track.

It would also be nice for this functionality to be built in to various devices like the AirPods/AirPod Pro and their cases, as well as the new AppleTV remote.
The only way I would buy tag is if it can track my kids via satellite.
With the Find My network including every recent iPhone, iPad, Macintosh and (maybe) HomePod/HomePod Mini, you should get better granularity with coverage in places like malls where GPS tracking does not work as well.

P.S. @calstanford I see that you marked that you ”disagree” with this post. I am curious as to which part you disagree, or is it that you just do not accept that tracking tags can ever be use?

Would love to know what has been delaying the Airtags for so long. Competitors seem to be rolling them out with no problems, so it makes me wonder if Apple doesn't have something different in mind for them. Guess we'll find out soon enough.
With how long these have been rumored, I wonder if it's more of a case of "you people think they're delayed. But the truth is we aren't even working on these AT ALL".

Can't be delayed if it was never even started or even a part of the plan to begin with. Plus as someone else mentioned further back in the thread, it could be a good way to catch leakers. Tech companies are pretty freaking strict about what NOT to talk about. Give some people information on a project that's not actually happening. News about said project gets out from some "unknown Apple employee"...now Apple has an idea of who a leaker could be because they only told a few people about this "secret project".

I've never seen any of the tile and other products in the wild. There's not a big market.
Tile is particularly worthless (it only works with people willing to leave the Tile app running in the background, so there are not enough users to make it work) and the Samsung one was just announced (not sure it is shipping yet). Apple has the scale needed to make the product interesting. While Samsung may have the scale, they do not have the same track record for getting people to adopt a new technology. Until a major player ships this tech, it is hard to say how big the market is.

The question is how much will these tags cost, and will Apple get third parties to build the tech into their own devices, with the latter being even more interesting.

The question is how long will the battery last and will it notify you when it needs to be charged. If it is less than 3 months, it is not really interesting. If it is more than 6 months that would be great.
It seems something you buy once and 6 months later you forgot you even had them as you haven't charged them in weeks and they're out of power and don't even work anymore when you do need them.
To be useful, they need to make sure one’s Apple Watch, iPhone and iPad need to notify you about the charge state with enough time to make sure they get recharged. That would also remind people they have the tags, keeping them in people’s minds.

So as usual Jon Prosser was wrong. Macrumors, would you stop giving that joker any more time or press space?

iPads must be coming out in March— my guess is an event for both airtags and ipad. With the airtag connecting to smart connector or magic keyboard of course.

Is it really worth it to have an event for an iPad though? Lately it's just been chip upgrades, and the addition of Apple Pencil support as far as I can tell.

He has a 78% accuracy that’s why he’s mentioned. All he’s mentioned recently is March. He did say 16th March but that was many months ago

gurman clearly has a better track record but doesn’t mean prosser should be ignored here
