Xr? Regular? Seriously?
I don't like either name (Xr or Xc). 5c was for color, people mocked it as cheap
There's nothing cheap about a $699 phone
It was a tiny screen plastic cheap phone regardless of price.

Xr. Suppose the "r" is for "really Cheap."
And if you don't call it Xs now, you can't call it "High Xs" next year.
I think they should leave the "X" naming to last years iPhone which was initially thought to be an "anniversary-edition" phone for 10 years. They should name the new phones iPhone 10s, 10s Plus and 10(whatever they choose for the cheaper 6.1 version)....
Then, next year they can go with 11, 11 Plus, etc....
Do you miss 4 inch screens and the $700B less in market cap too?Ugh....iPhone Xs Max...... Just another dumb mistake made by Timmy.....I miss Steve.
No he was not invited to Apple’s Mac roundtables. And no Apple is not feeding him stuff. Apple doesn’t need to generate hype and the people that work on these products want the element of surprise not everything known before hand. It’s possible some rogue employee or 3rd party is leaking to him but no way this is coming from high up in Apple corporate. That’s a dumb as when people claim Apple intentionally restricts supply as a way to increase demand.Gurman is an extension of Apple's marketing machine and he's on the "in list" at Apple. Was he not one of the trusted sycophants that was invited to the exclusive mMacPro powwow?
Whatever "rumors" Gurman puts out about Apple, are fed directly to him by Apple with their blessing. This is just an Apple marketing ploy designed to whip up the hype.
I’d disagree actually. Most of his reporting now is full of filler. He might be good at reporting something specifically told to him but he’s not very good at providing context or understanding broader meaning. People like John Gruber, Rene Ritchie, Jason Snell are much better at that.I agree with you on the details of the names, but the meat of his reporting is usually pretty spot on.
These names are just terrible. Sorry, but they are.
Not gonna happen until Samsung stops calling their Galaxy phones by number or people stop buying new phones every two years, the latter of which will happen if it hasn't already. The numbered version continues to drive sales and is likely the reason this weird naming scheme exists. There isn't even a functional reason to upgrade an iPhone 7, it runs iOS 12 flawlessly. As much as I would love a simple iPhone/iPhone Pro name, there's also this marketing issue.I wish/I hope that the LCD iPhone is just called ‘iphone’ ie like the iPad is.
But maybe that’ll come next year.
This year is more about eking out the ‘special edition’ that is the X design and bringing the X’s features to a cheaper phone.
I wouldn’t be surprised if next year we go back to their being just two new September phones which will likely be made of less premium materials than the X (and they won’t have 3D Touch and this apple will be able to source the OLED displays from multiple vendors, hence the phones will be cheaper).
And then with the March after being reserved for whatever is the ‘budget’ phone.
Anyone around when the "iPad" name was introduced? The whole world joked at that name, yet here we are, even so much as to call Microsoft's Surfacebooks "iPads".XS Max and Xr are comically bad names, which is why Apple will never use them.
Actual consumers really don't care how many X's, S's, R's, or numbers are attached to the end of the name.
Mac Pro, iMac Pro, MacBook Pro, iPad Pro.
No, doesn't make any sense at all.![]()
I wonder when the Apple watch series 4 will be available for sell?
