This is the dumbest prediction ever. It's like saying Apple won't release new iPhones until later this year.
The Macbook Air would normally be expected later this year. Those Apple rumorers were the ones saying it could be early this year. Now they're simply backtracking over their own claims.
And obviously no Macbook Pros, as Apple just announced the 14/16".

Sometimes I really wonder how these people can make money by spouting mere BS. Seems like something I should look into... :D

Here is my prediction:

M2 announced at October 2022 Event along with newly designed M2 MacBook Air and M2 Mac mini.

They will also announce updated iPad Pro’s with M2 along with 11” gaining MiniLED display.

Updated 24” M2 iMac will arrive at Spring 2023 Event.

13” MacBook Pro and Intel Mac mini will be discontinued following the October 2022 Event.

M2 Pro/Max/Ultra along with first Apple Silicon Mac Pro won’t arrive until October 2023 Event. Which will officially mark the end of the Intel transition.
Yup, kinda the expected cycle at this point. Except that I still think Apple would keep the intel mac mini around for developers. As great Apple silicon is, majority of mac users are still on intel.

I think it's hilarious watching these "industry insiders/analysts/leakers" walking-back most of their predictions from earlier this year.

This is my guess and opinion… so far we have had rumours of a new Air getting M2, which was initially meant to launch at the end of 2021, then early 2022, now the spring event has come and gone it’s now late 2022.

BUT… what we have also had is a change from M2 being launched in the new redesigned Air to now it being M1 (according to Kuo, and this was double confirmed with 9to5 in a private convo).

So I have a feeling that firstly Apple feels the M1 branding is selling extremely well, they probably don’t feel at this stage it is necessary to launch M2 just yet so that will most likely be left until 2023 at this stage… so now we have the question of when is Apple likely to launch the redesigned MBA…

Looking over the past 6 years of Apple events their spring events have always been late March with the exception of last year when it happened in April, so I have a sneaky suspicion that this year Apple may have a surprise event up their sleeve before WWDC… as we know Apple of recent years have always kept WWDC as a software only event… plus they have said the Mac Pro ‘is for another day’ potentially hinting at another event potentially.

So I have a funny feeling we may see the MBA, Mac Pro and this new miniLED display coming at an event in either April or May… as I think they might be planning to launch their headset in October/November this year and they will want that to to take all of the headlines… it’s just a hunch, I am probably wrong but definitely possible, especially with how easy Apple can knock these events together now.

Let’s be honest for the general user base the last event was extremely meh!

And for no more products to get launched to attack our wallets between now and September means this year is going to p*ss off the shareholders massively IMO…
I hope you're a prophet, I would like to buy an AS mac in June but the Air is "old", the Studio is pricey (for me), I'm waiting for an up-to-date but reasonably priced (for MY wallet) product!

Your logic makes no sense. You're suggesting they can't have a $1299 16 GB M1 Pro because a $1699 32 GB M1 Pro costs too much, because the 32 GB model is too close to the Mac Studio.

Err... what?

Anyhow, $1699 would be perfect pricing for an M1 Pro 32 GB Mac mini, precisely because it's close to Mac Studio. At that point it's prime for the upsell.

BTW, as it stands now, you can't even get 32 GB in a Mac mini anyway. So, the only way to get that is either to go with M1 Pro, or presumably M2.

Except that the 14" MacBook Pro has M1 Pro. There are also many other upgrades going from the 13" to the 14" MBP.
in that case there are many Mac mini upgrades between the mini and the studio. A fully loaded mini costs $1799. Anyway, the iMac sits in the space between the mini and the studio.

Even more likely is that personal computer tech i

No, it isn’t. There is a Goldilocks space need for an entry level prosumer Mini with an M1-Pro with TB support for 2+ monitors and 16-32 GB of RAM that starts at under $1200. The Studio more professional market computer.
Keep dreaming. Apple gives you what they want to give you. As far as they are concerned if you need more power you pay more, if you cannot afford it then you dont need it.

I'm afraid you are right. However, that will be too late for back to school shoppers which may hit Apple's bottom line and will leave all those brand new MacBook Air owners wishing they had waited a couple of months and gotten the redesigned Air.
Nope. Releasing new devices targeted at education right before the Back to School promo would actually hit Apple’s bottom line. Higher manufacturing costs and supply issues. There’s a reason Apple never releases iPads and MBAs in summer before school starts. They just sell old devices and maybe bundle a freebie. New devices usually do not receive a freebie.

For those who, when M1 MBA was released in Nov 2020, said to wait for the M2. Is it really worth the wait??

I think releasing a MacBook Air m2 later this year makes sense.

My predictions:

2022
M2 extreme/ultrax2 for macPro this fall.
M2 for iMac /Mac mini/MacBook Air (and perhaps old model MacBook Pro) this fall.

2023 spring:
M2 pro for Mac mini , macbook pro 14 and 16 inch
M2 Max for macbook pro and mac studio
M2 ultra for Mac studio

2024:
M3/pro /max/ultra/xtreme

It is smart to start with a m2 extreme this year for the new Mac Pro and the basic m2, and wait for the m2 pro/max and ultra versions until 2023.

If apple released a Mac Pro with a m1 extreme, and release a m2 around the same time, naming and marketing would be confusing for a customer. Your absolute best should have latest architecture available.

You *SHOULD* be expecting upgrades to the 14" & 16" in 2023. And potentially a lot of upgrades as well. 30-50% faster CPU & GPU, titanium body, cellular, Face ID, LPDDR5X, HDMI 2.1 & SDExpress, Thunderbolt 5, etc. are all on the table.
No titanium (Apple just set the industrial design for the MBP, its not changing for a while); no Face ID (the lid would have to be at least twice as thick for the array components), 30-50% speed increase from M2 over M1 seems unlikely; I would rather they use a dual format slot which takes SD and CF Express.

I think Apple needs to offer a matte screen option, like they have in the past with the AlBooks.

But I agree that M2 MBPs in mid to late seems likely and would fit with an 18-24 month schedule.

Lol...there goes the super product year... if this is right.
Yeah, the Studio was impressive, but it's not a consumer product.

Yeah, it’s going to be a very meh year if that’s all they have to offer until September…

An iPad which is basically the same as the last gen, and an iPhone which is basically the same as last gen… oh and don’t forget two new colours of the iPhone 13… all pretty meh IMO…

Don’t get me wrong the studio display and Mac studio are both nice products but they’re expensive and they don’t appeal to the general consumer.

This makes me think there has got to be something before September coming surely…

Isn't crazy how jaded people have become when an iPad Air with a better chip and double the RAM, both of which are noticeable, not to mention the Studio, Display, and M1-Ultra mean that its meh year.

For the most part I think you are right.

13“ MacBook Pro will likely get m2 but I don’t understand why, would like to see a fusion othe the air/basic pro lineup.

MacPro will probably get some souped up ultra-iteration like x2 or something like this.

EVERYTHING related to the timing of the M2 depends on whether it is
- a SoC based on the A15 (and so, in some sense "late") OR
- a SoC based on the A16 (and so expected to arrive around the September time frame, perhaps a little earlier [doesn't need massive phone volumes], perhaps a little later [at least for now, Apple wants to continue associating the maximum annual SoC drama with the iPhone])

This is what I find weirdest about Gurman (and Kuo), that this is THE most obvious question for a technical person (and even if you're not technical, it informs everything else about timing and capabilities) but they never raise this issue and seem not to care!
I’m convinced m2 is some kind of a16 based.
We are out for an a15 based timeframe.

once all the redesigns are up and selling, is there any possibility that apple will just update ALL the chips on a yearly basis like what they did with iphone chips?

also, does anyone think that apple will get stuck when it comes to performance upgrades after the M3? i heard that M3 was going to be 3nm and that going below 3nm was reaching the physical limits.

that is nonsense...
