Makes it usable for work and everything about 90% of the time
My mac is usable 100% of the time.
Makes it usable for work and everything about 90% of the time
This is an arrogant post.
What makes you think what you think is correct
Globe + ‘.’ is the Esc key. This, but to be fair - escape button and function keys would be great too... Especially if it would run macOS.
Thanks, did not know. I will try this.Globe + ‘.’ is the Esc key.
That wouldn’t work because of the Smart Connector location.Just make available the Magic Keyboard folio for other models, problem solved.
I personally don’t want a keyboard restriction on which OS I can use.Funny to see the hype around this. I own a pro, and a few others. The OS should really detect when it’s hooked up to said keyboard and transform into a full Mac OS.
Because he/she is. When you are in a hole you really should stop digging. No it isn't.
What makes you think you're correct?
Yet you provided a response concluding "That's my experience".
Your take is somehow valid but my take is a "red flag"?
That's hilarious. Have a good one.
"Just because" is not a valid argument.Because he/she is. When you are in a hole you really should stop digging.
An incredibly stupid idea to give people a choice as to how they want to use their device. One of Apple's biggest mistakes was adding a cursor to the iPad. iPad is a touch first device, so it should be a touch first device. Magic keyboard with trackpad makes no sense and it's a classic case of listening to the customer who is wrong. Imagine when the iPhone was first released and everyone complained about a lack of keyboard so Apple shrinks the screen and adds a keyboard to the iPhone.
Apple should just ditch the magic keyboard and trackpad IMO. Let iPad be iPad and let Mac be Mac.
What makes even less sense is a touchscreen Mac. Hope Apple never makes one. Such an incredibly stupid idea.
While my camera uses SD so I’m glad my MBP has that slot, most pro cameras use XQD or CF Express So an SD slot would be wasted on those pro photographers.…and Add a damn sd card reader in a pro device which is advertised as a photographer, and designer must have.
An incredibly stupid idea to give people a choice as to how they want to use their device.
This isn't my first time coming up with this radical idea either...I have been saying it for years and Apple is slowly coming to the same conclusion, this latest update from The G (Mark Gurman) proves it, as well...At this point, just modify the boot settings so you can dual-boot between macOS and iPadOS....god damn...if you are going to make it laptop-like, just go ahead and go the distance and enable the desktop OS that is designed for laptops, for the iPad....these half-steps are just so infuriating!!! Ahhhh!!!
The Apple devs are clearly heading down this path, the path of making iPadOS more desktop centric. The biggest evidence is when Craig Federighi announced that "Desktop-class apps" are coming to iPadOS at this year's WWDC...hell, if you are just going replicate the desktop experience, you might just save yourself some time and just allow dual booting...that allows power users to get the power and flexibility of the desktop environment and it allows devs to save themselves time too in the process - devs won't have to replicate their work...

I just think it is dumb that Apple is just replicating their work from 20 years ago for the iPad, when, they could easily just allow dual booting....
Or...go one step further and just open-up the bootloader to dual-boot and allow users to dual-boot between macOS and iPadOS....boot into macOS for the multi-tasking and mult-window support, and boot into iPadOS for the portability aspect....
Best of both worlds, and we all know this can be done since both OSes now support AS....so the architecture isn't an issue...
I was trending toward the iPad Pro when the MacBooks had the terrible butterfly keyboards and only 2 or 4 ports.
The only reason I didn't go towards the iPad Pro was:
- you can't use it like a power user or do real multi-tasking with multiple windows or use a file system to transfer files to and from the device, like a laptop
- no desktop environment
Then, when Apple announced the redesigned MacBook Pro with the additional ports and MagSafe 3, I purchased one day one and never looked back.
Now, until Apple drastically changes course with the iPad Pro and allows the following or some combination of the following, I am going to be sticking to the MacBook Pro for the foreseeable future for my needs:
- dual boot between iPadOS and macOS
- introduce multitasking to iPadOS that resembles macOS and allows the use of the file system
- true multi-window support, not the janky solution introduced with Stage Manager
this doesn’t work for me, but I have mapped Caps Lock to act as the escape key, which I love. It stops me being All Caps shouty, too. Thanks, did not know. I will try this.
But I would still prefer if escape had it's own key (just as function keys). It's useful if you want to use iPad for managing servers on the go.
A complete redesign doesn't mean substantial exterior redesign. And as long as the smart connector position remains the same, chances are people can still make their old version of magic keyboard works as long as camera cutout doesn't become a huge issue.I think you should get your bank account prepared. It’s highly likely that a completely redesigned iPad will have a different shape and size and the Magic Keyboard is highly dependent on an exact shape and size.
To me portrait-only app lives on iPhone, not on iPad. Yes, some games did enforce that, and I have rarely played those games since. As for additional keys... maybe on 13" model, but highly unlikely for 11" model without cramming each key or cram it at the top, making it uncomfortable to use anyway.I have such conflicting feelings about the Magic Keyboard. Yes, it's GREAT to type on. Yes, it's awesome how the iPad just hovers over the keyboard.
But... you cannot use the iPad in portrait mode when the keyboard is attached, which means you need to remove it whenever you want to use a portrait mode only app.
Also, I cannot count the number of times I have intuitively looked for physical volume and brightness keys. How are they not on there?
Finally, the Magic Keyboard is expensive and thick and heavy. My M2 MBA is way more compact than the iPad Pro with the Magic Keyboard.
Hopefully Apple address these shortcomings in the future. As it stands, this is a half-baked product.
Expect a $1500 combo at the very least I'd argue.I look forward to the new design. I used an iPad with the MK for over 5 years and found it to be a good combo. The good thing is my M2Pro stil works with it. I shudder to think what it wil cost me to get the nee combo.
Well, you know there's also a large crowd saying iPad should never run macOS and for people who want macOS, go buy a Mac. I guess neither side wins to sway Apple's market research results. Most importantly, large portion of people still don't care if their iPad has macOS on it or not, and thus will not voice any preference. Professional user crowd is naturally small anyway, and one can only buy so many iPads before the setup becomes impractical. At this point, just modify the boot settings so you can dual-boot between macOS and iPadOS....god damn...if you are going to make it laptop-like, just go ahead and go the distance and enable the desktop OS that is designed for laptops, for the iPad....these half-steps are just so infuriating!!! Ahhhh!!!
Mine has lit keys… 🤔 Mine is a 4th Gen iPad Air and the Magic Keyboard has a “009” hardware identifier… maybe mine is newer?Just would like lighted keys (volume keys included) Smart Keyboard Folio.
My dude… you’ve been *fully* ratio’d. Just take the “L”…*One* of their *BIGGEST* mistake. I stand by what I said. Read carefully.
