I don’t think they’ll have the capacities (staff and time) to let people try without a preorder.Any word if it will be possible to try one before they go on sale?

How so? It hasn't launched yet.Such an underwhelming launch.
And they will be vegan! But these will be the best lenses, using only the finest glass cut on the International Space Station.
That’s why it’s so underwhelming. How so? It hasn't launched yet.
Respectfully… a phone/tablet/watch are common things. A headset is not.And I remember a couple years of people noticing my original iPhone and asking, “is that the Apple phone?” with a tone that showed they were puzzled why I would be such a geek for wanting one.
What’s different is that thanks to movies and mostly TV, everyone has an idea about AR goggles and what they do.
No chance unless you have really good insurance.I wonder if my vision care insurance will cover Zeiss lenses for these?
that would be bad, I fall in the category of trying before buying.I don’t think they’ll have the capacities (staff and time) to let people try without a preorder.
If you were….not interested, you wouldn’t have willingly clicked on an article that was clearly all about itI’m just… not interested.
I want M3 Macs.
This is aimed at developers, so the killer app is xCode for mac os.Will be interesting what Apps will actually be available upon launch. That’s what is going to make or break it at the end of the day.
Got to start somewhere with a new product. Even if the first gen headset is underwhelming for some, its finally seeing a finished release of Vision OS that will be the most interesting aspect so we can see how Apple has made this more attractive to the public then what was semi-demo's back in WWDC 2023. Yeah who knows where the hardware will go in the future, but the OS is what really matters on maintaining momentum IMHO. That and content like new apps and other things that you can use with Vision OS.Such an underwhelming launch.
I suspect that the necessary tech will prevent the price of even the cheapest model from ever dipping below the cost of a MacBook Pro.Get it down to $500 and I might consider one.
I’m guessing it’ll take a good 5 years until that happens.
Ah, the memories…
Well, I believe that’s why they always advertise it with the Transparency mode on so you can see your surroundings and EyeSight so others can see you, so it doesn’t make you as disconnected from the world as other headsets…In a world where people are becoming more and more disconnected from each other, Apple is about to launch a product that makes you even more disconnected from people and the world around you. Sounds like a great strategy…
I totally agree with most of your points. However, Wall Street is basically a giant casino with people in it that are gamblers. What they think doesn’t really matter that much in the grand scheme. A lot of garbage companies are overvalued and a lot of great companies are undervalued. It’s a casino.Respectfully… a phone/tablet/watch are common things. A headset is not.
I do not think this will be a flop, but I do not think it will be a phone/tablet/watch. At best, I think it’ll be as popular as the Apple TV.
However, if it isn’t a massive success and quickly, Wall Street won’t be happy.
That’s a slightly valid thing, but the eyes that they show are fake representation of your actual eyes. The studies have already been done and unsurprisingly when we are looking at people through a screen, we miss the subtle nuances of facial expressions that can only be seen in real life.Well, I believe that’s why they always advertise it with the Transparency mode on so you can see your surroundings and EyeSight so others can see you, so it doesn’t make you as disconnected from the world as other headsets…
I agree, the whole time they were showing EyeSight I kept getting Uncanny Valley feelingsThat’s a slightly valid thing, but the eyes that they show are fake representation of your actual eyes. Regarding consumers consuming, I agree with you there. Someone living alone would be fine, but they might have the underlying awareness that they might not be able to share the experience with a visiting friend without taking turns (and the friend would need to either wear contact lenses or have 20/20 vision). In a world where people are becoming more and more disconnected from each other, Apple is about to launch a product that makes you even more disconnected from people and the world around you. Sounds like a great strategy…
