Got to start somewhere with a new product. Even if the first gen headset is underwhelming for some, its finally seeing a finished release of Vision OS that will be the most interesting aspect so we can see how Apple has made this more attractive to the public then what was semi-demo's back in WWDC 2023. Yeah who knows where the hardware will go in the future, but the OS is what really matters on maintaining momentum IMHO. That and content like new apps and other things that you can use with Vision OS.
Yeah, you are not wrong. However with the iPhone, it was far more exciting as it looked like something with tremendous potential and captivated many. For the Vision Pro, there was brief excitement, and now it has since extinguished.

I wish they would make a stripped down version for those of us who want them only to play media files (movies etc.).

I don’t think there was ever excitement outside the hardcore fan base. I know many many people who became Apple diehards because of the iPhone. It blew everyone away. None of those people are remotely interested in Vision Pro.

Can’t wait. I’ll be at the store for the day of launch, whenever it ends up being. While on a broader level I’m not overwhelmed by the possibilities of the tech, I do web development as a side gig. I really need something beyond a laptop screen to do that work. While I’ve gotten by using my iPad Pro as a second display, I really can’t be as productive as possible when I’m traveling. The ability to slip a 4K monitor in my bag and get on a plane - that’s worth the hefty price tag (and it will pay for itself in the first year of increased productivity - easily).

Everything else will be cool, but probably not anything I could justify dropping $3.5k on.

Difficult to be excited. Too expensive and not available here until who knows when.

Hopefully Apple can get this out the door and have some success so they can quickly move onto the 2nd gen headset.

Maybe in 10 years we’ll look back and realise how stupid we were to doubt it. It could be the next big thing but let’s wait and see.

Waiting to hear more about it in the coming days. Hopefully its international availability expands quickly.

I applaud the early adopters 👏. If it becomes powerful, smaller, lighter, adopted by many programmers, and around $1000-$2000 I’ll consider it.
Out of the iPod, the iPhone, and the Apple Watch the iPod was the most impactful for me because it was a solid product. The iPhone’s plastic bottom part that was easily damaged and camera lens cover which turned hazy after a few weeks was a poor experience for such a game changing product. The apps on the Apple Watch simply spun and spun and spun. I’m hopeful this will not be the same experience but I’m all set on being an early adopter.

I’m hoping the “Apple Tax” on the lenses isn’t too extreme. A Mac Pro Wheel kit or Pro Display stand level markup would be unfortunate. I bought the official Zinni Optical lenses for my Quest 3 for $49.99 and they are great. Even with markup for the Zeiss and Apple names, the $99 price seems reasonable. But since the headset is a PRO (Apple speak for PROfit) we’ll have to wait and see.
It would suck if they're anything more than $150 max.

At the very least I hope Apple works with Zenni or other manufacturers for more affordable versions down the line.

Of course not. Because they are the ones who became Apple diehards because of the iPhone.

The ones who will become Apple diehards because of the Vision Pro aren't visible yet, just as you couldn't identify the iPhone converts before there was an iPhone.

So you r just gonna look at it sitting on a table collecting dust and to be able to say „I had it first“??? Makes no sense
Well, I won't do that!

The Vision Pro will have thousands of apps at launch. Many will be iOS apps that run basically as is, but some will be enhanced for "spatial computing".

When the iPad launched, it could also run iOS apps that were written for the iPhone, which was great, because if you had an iPhone, your apps were already on the iPad.

iOS apps today are more flexible than they were at the time of the iPad. If an app is compatible with Vision Pro, you may be able to run it in a larger virtual screen than what you see on your phone. They have to work on multiple iPhone screen sizes, so the APIs encourage the UI to be expandable.

Even if Zeiss would normally charge a fortune for such lenses, I suspect Apple will be willing to subsidize that so the cost isn't more than $99. It's well worth a few million dollars to avoid the significant negative press they'd get from charging $500 for people who need glasses. This is an accessibility issue!
Dream on

I would suspect that the only people that need the additional vision correction lenses for Vision Pro would be far sighted prescriptions. If your near sighted since the displays elements are a few inches away should be just fine like people that don't need vision correction.

All the Vision Pro is going to do is give Apple users something that Window users have had for many many years and that is the ability to use AR/VR. The Vision Pro is not going to light the world on fire with regards to VR because everything that the Vison Pro can do, the existing VR headsets for Windows users have been doing so for years. Name something the Vision Pro can do and I bet one of the existing Windows VR headsets can already do.

Just look at the many posts from members who say they are planning to purchase one and look at the field of work they are in, web development, desktop publishing, building design, all things that are currently being done by windows users.

The playstation VR did not light the world on fire when it was released for the playstation. Oculus Rift (now Meta Quest) tried to do the same for Windows machines but it too fell silent. The Vision Pro will end up the same way in my opinion, it will be released to huge fanfare and then just quietly drift off into the background as has done with ever other VR headset made for other operating systems.

The reason your argument is not as compelling as one might think is that the same can be said about virtually every Apple product when first introduced… there were existing ways to do the same thing. Apple didn’t invent the computer, the mp3 player, the phone or even the tablet computer. Apple simply did it better and in effect created a new direction. It remains to be seen if it will do it again with the AVP, but if anyone can do it, it’s Apple..

This is exactly what Apple does well, whether people like it or not.

The AVP might be a tough sell, but I'm personally extremely excited for it. I used the Quest 2 since it launched and while it's fun for casual gaming, it's quite disappointing for more "spatial computing" applications the likes of which was shown off in Apple's AVP announcement.

I just want a AR and/or VR device that's easy to use, syncs with my existing products, and has compelling apps and experiences, most especially entertainment. And that's exactly what the Vision Pro is.

Price is an issue, but that's the nature of nascent tech. If supply chains can improve, I see Apple reducing the price (either by introducing a new model or revising the Pro's pricing) to MacBook level prices.

I still think it says something that no one in the Apple c-suite has been seen wearing VP. At least Microsoft executives were willing to eat their own dogfood and wear HoloLens on stage. Though Microsoft is killing their mixed reality platform so looks likely HoloLens will cease to exist.

Rewatching the announcement for AirPods (those were being made fun of for the look as well, toothbrush tips lol) no one wore them on stage. I also think we haven't seen pretty much any of the Apple executives wearing AirPods. If we do, it's probably after release (please share if you find it). I even think there was speculation that Tim Cook was photoshopped to add AirPods in afterwards. Apple Watch is a different story since Tim Cook walked out on stage with it, there's strategy behind it, but I don't think it says anything that important looking back at other Apple releases.

Lol. Nice spin. 😵‍💫

If anyone outside Apple’s hardcore fandom was interested in this thing, people would be talking about it. No one seems to care. When the iPhone launched, everyone was talking about it. Plenty of those people thought it would flop, but plenty were also beyond excited and there was a lot of press, etc. This time around, no one seems to care. Look at this forum even. Articles about EU regulations get 500+ posts and Vision Pro threads often don’t even crack 100.

It’s cool tech, no doubt, but it clearly hasn’t captured the imagination.

So you and others keep saying. 'No one is talking about it.' Repeatedly. Almost seems to be a contradiction. I think the reason that EU regulations get more comment is people get more upset about it, and it's more tangible. For better or for worse there just isnt as much information on a product that has not been released yet. I grant you that feels like when movies are rushed into the theater before reviewers can comment, but hey, let's come back in a year to see what happens rather than continued speculation.

I predict there will be more real information then than there is now. :)
