Feels like it could be another 2014. I remember there wasn’t really any hardware, but everyone was blown away by all the software related announcements, most of which were truly unexpected.

That's what I'm hoping for at least. But Gurman is saying that these updates will be "muted". It's like, if they're going to have muted software, they should at least have some hardware (otherwise the software updates should be more than "minor tweaks"). But what we're being told here (and of course it's just a guess) is that there will be no hardware and muted unremarakble software updates.

I mean, whatever, I'm not pissed at Apple or thinking they're doomed or anything, but I don't know how much surprise there will be.

business as usual - no new Mac Mini :(

Yeah. We're desperate for new Mac Minis. Our Mini app build machines are so old now that I think they're 'out of warranty' (3 years old) when we buy them. The iMac is a flop as a build machine (especially if you get them with Fusion drives) and the Mac Pros just are too unstable.

I'm waiting for a new MBP like many, so that kind of stinks. But whats another few months, not the end of the world.

I suspect the delay has to do with Intel. And if they are taking more time to get a better keyboard in there, then take your time Apple. Do it right instead of rushing.

It does, however, mean they'll miss back to school purchases. I have to assume there's a fair number of "going to college computers" that won't be bought if there's no new macbook/pro

Agreed. If there is going to be a bit more of a muted software cycle, more stability and features spread out, especially with the exciting things like redesigned home screen and iPad focus getting moved to 2019, then it would have been cool to get some refreshed hardware (even minor internal updates).

Thinking about September with new iPhones, iPads, Watches, MacBooks, iMacs... wish they were more spread throughout the year.

So long as the iPad lacks the Phone.app, it's a mistake to launch new ones alongside new iPhones. iPads do well only when the new ones are launched in Spring (or last year during WWDC).

The OS X redesign to match iOS 7 was expected. I even recall seeing leaked screenshots prior to the keynote.

I'll be incredibly disappointed if Apple doesn't announce refreshed MacBooks and iPad Pros at WWDC, as I've been eagerly waiting to buy both and I refuse to invest in outdated technology. Their laptop line in particular is embarrassingly out of date.

Same here. If they don' release them, I look elsewhere. No more game playing with Apple.

Well let's say he is right – so what is the point of this conference? I mean really – most of the software changes will be under the hood improvements, no new hardware...

After the mess that was iOS 11 and High sierra with some really bad bugs It’s probably time to concentrate on the software to make sure it doesn’t have gaping holes and useability issues.

The last two releases have been for me and I’m many sure others here some of the worst for a long time. Apple need to concentrate on polishing their software. I would prefer less issues and bugs and Apple to concentrate on getting things like fusion drive working with APFS for those that have those drives not everyone has a SSD. I Only went for one last year because I saw it as the way forward, but the cost was still extortionate for a 1TB SSD.

When I started buying Apple products OS X ran for two years before a new release. Now the constant rush to update feels like part of the reason that is causing Apples software issues. Trying to please buyers like yourself who even post the price of the Apple products they buy really says a lot. You seem more worried about having new gadgets to show off than a product functioning as it should. Apple saw this as a cash cow and tried hard to push out new hardware and software way too fast, thinking that they could keep making a ton of money in the process but ended tripping up over their own own feet in the rush and breaking so many things on the way down.

Edit; this no longer makes sense as a reply as the original post has been removed by a mod for some reason.

So basically, the worst keynote of all time? Why does Apple even do keynotes anymore???
Would be hard to beat WWDC 2016. There was some news on the software side including the disappointing rename to "macOS" (I still refuse to use the lowercase M), that Siri would be coming to the Mac (long overdue, of course), and a quick glimpse of APFS.

But then toward the end of talking about the Mac they flashed a system requirements slide indicating that support for a dozen older Mac models would be dropped. And no new hardware to help justify it of course.

Schiller: The MacBook Pro uses 16GB of very fast LPDDR memory, up to 2133MHz. To support 32GB of memory would require using DDR memory that is not low power and also require a different design of the logic board which might reduce space for batteries. Both factors would reduce battery life.

That was the excuse in 2016 and here we are in 2018 with no change in sight.

Android P can you help Apple here :p

Android P (and even Oreo) is so far ahead of iOS 11 it's not even funny anymore. Apple needs to regain leading the pack with their once best in class software. This is the first year I've felt that iOS was stale and stagnant, with tons of bugs during launch and Apple taking an entire year to release promised features like AirPlay 2 and Messages on iCloud.

It's a shame not many Android phones are gonna get P otherwise I would have jumped ship. Developing for iOS is still much less of a headache than Android.

And, in the meantime, they are trying to figure out how to design a modular Mac Pro in a way that it’s not modular. They hope the iMacPro-thing succeeds in sales and everybody forgets to have heard the “modular Mac Pro” words.

The point is right there in the name: "developers". If you're not a developer, then this isn't the conference for you.

Yes....and Intel has STILL not brought LPDDR4 to the U series chips Apple uses. In fact, this 8th gen chip is another iteration of Kaby Lake instead of CannonLake which was delayed...again.

This:

At least the WWDC is not supposed to be Mac focused. The most disappointing keynote to me was the "hello again" event, that was supposed to be Mac focused, and that event looked worse than 10-pounds of poop in a 5-pound bag.
I think you should re-read my comment with your /s filter activated bro.

Meanwhile, here in reality, the TechCrunch piece clearly indicated modularity is core to the new Mac Pro. You can speculate all you want on what their definition of that is, but your comment doesn’t reflect what we know.

“We recognize that they want to hear more from us. And so we want to communicate better with them. We want them to understand the importance they have for us, we want them to understand that we’re investing in new Macs — not only new MacBook Pros and iMacs but Mac Pros for them, we want them to know we are going to work on a display for a modular system,” Schiller said.

Yes, hardware has launched in the past for WWDC, but the focus has _not_ always been hardware, which seems many believe it should be. It’s about the developers and iOS/macOS/watchOS. That is the key focus to WWDC, anything hardware related is merely additional, it’s not the primary reason for WWDC.

The point is right there in the name: "developers". If you're not a developer, then this isn't the conference for you.

Oh, guess what I do for a living?

It was always a conference about Apple and it's ecosystem. Apple was showing new things and new tools for developers, so if Apple won't be showing anything really new (according this post), what is the point? Maybe I expressed myself badly – what is the point of Apple having a keynote?
