It really doesn't make any long-term sense to pay these ransoms as it just encourages more. Best to take the pain and do what you can to prevent it happening again by tightening security.
it kicks the can. I can see it.

Constitution authorizes “letters of marque and reprisal” (to wit: Congress can authorize a private entity to wage war). Seems an appropriate response to such threats.

Timmy probably had a quick phone call with the Chechen mafia to sort out the issue thoroughly, and we all know they don't take any prisoners.

First thing I thought when I saw this article was “Apple Internal Security.” You know, the people who went around claiming to be the police when that Gizmodo reporter had possession of the iPhone 4 that was left in a bar.

Just release everything so we can see what Apple has planned.

After the disaster of iMac we need to know.

Apple can simply just redesign a new Mac right? remove all the ports and megasafe, just keep 4x thunderbolt ports and one audio jack. make it as generic as possible, no major schematic change. Problem solved, no need to pay the ransom right?

Apple's secret to keep the products fresh is key to made a lot of $$ .... 50 mill is nothing compared to what apple can made in a quarter of year .....may be apple paid the ransom under the table.

Apple paid it of course.

It’s like how Americans say they won’t trade hostages, but it happens all the time. There’s news for the domestic audience, and then there’s reality. Look at how the CDC perfomed when it came to reality vs. what you see in movies.
