Just found this from 4 years ago. It would be interesting to know if Jobs would have ever changed his view on the subject if he were still alive today.

www.engadget.com/2010/07/16/jobs-no-ones-going-to-buy-a-big-phone/

Why keep bringing him up? It's a known fact that Jobs changed his mind numerous times while at Apple. There are many stories of how Jobs' lieutenants fought hard to convince him to change his mind on various decisions, and in several cases, they succeeded.

Biggest waste of real estate - columns and rows of static icons. Pathetic!

That's the problem with apple - you waste 5.5" of space to look just like a 3.5" iPhone screen. Same lame static icons, just 6 rows of icons more.

iOS 8 changes nothing.

Is that all you use your phone for? To look at the icons? If you tap one of them, it launches the app. Apps do things! :p

Holy cow, MacMan!

I think they were referring to the ability to add widgets on android keeping you from having to click on things to get information on such a large screen. Widgets such as weather, scoreboards, social media feeds, calendar, music, mail, text messaging, health app/pedometer, i could go on. Their point being, you can view all of those on one screen without clicking on a single icon with a larger android device. But i may be putting words in their mouth.

haha yeap but don't forget the Optical Image Stabilisation in the Plus model only!
These updates are hilarious.

Shame more people don't know more about photography. Very different cameras, actually. If you know anything about cameras beyond the same lame specs people quote to think they know what they are talking about.

You indeed make good, valid arguments. The guys just complaining about the number of icon rows, well.... pointless.

I really hoped to get a 4" option with the improved specs because I do use my phone as a phone and I like having something that can be used one handed. I'm not due an upgrade anytime soon, so I'll have plenty of time to play with the new sizes before I have to make a decision.

All of that said however, I wonder it the :apple:Watch isn't the key to the larger screen size. A lot of the 'one handed activities' can likely be performed on the watch without having to touch the phone so you can 'enjoy' a larger screen size?

Makes sense but why not colour them to match the back colour so you don't notice the lines or make them bold so they add to the design like on the HTC One.

Yeah I figure since a different material can never perfectly match aluminum, may as make them starkly different from the backing.

I'm waiting until I hold one in my hand, but from the photos, they seem fine IMO. Of course taste is very individual, but I'll bet The Steve would have thrown a tantrum over those lines, lol.

I thought double tapping brings up all the open apps for closing? Or did it bring up Siri? o_O

What color phone would have the best resale value?

Not even close to iPad Mini size. Don't imagine it larger than it is. Here's a comparison that should clearly illustrate how much smaller it is than a mini: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ufzp4gowu1sa6xb/AADVfpM7--3jbq-i20B52eXOa?dl=0
Thanks for making that! Helps with purse space planning purposes.

I still need to fit one of the iPhones + my Samsung Galaxy Note 2.

Why I want a "phone" that large? First, I hardly ever use the phone part. So I really want a bigger-screen-but-still-pocketable computer that happens to also have phone functionality for the occasional times I need to take or make a call.
Agree with everything you said.

None of those phones lag. I've had them all as well. From time to time my Note 2 and SGS3 hung up on an app, but even my brand new iPad Mini does that. My iPhone has crashed from time to time too.

This lagging on the Android thing is just as much nonsense as the iPhone needs 16GBs of RAM nonsense.
Nexus is the only Android experience id choose if I was buying an Android. The rest are crap, even the new phones. Custom software will be outdated sooner rather than later.

All looks great. About the only disappointment is there's not "touch" option to avoid a monthly bill. Will there be a "SIM-less" option to use these with only WiFI?

ooooooo

They so remind me sooooo much of the very first iPhone 2G right? It is so buff and shiny wow!!!!! I love the retro nostalgia what a great dedication to the late Steve Jobs really and the time piece (Apple Watch), right? Retrospective I get it now, wow, so amazing marketing ploys, they be so clever...

I LOVE You all!!

I'm gonna get the 6+ in Space Grey.

It's common, just ignore it.

Hype overinflates expectations, then when Apple doesn't feature the return of The Jesus, investors bail. The best time to buy Apple stock is when it craters after these product intros.

btw, the Watch is going to be freakin' huge. If I had the cash I'd hoover up Apple shares right about now...

Its just profit taking. Since the stock has fallen almost every time a news has come out lately, it was to be expected.

The back of the iPhone looks like an afterthought. I'm almost considering for the first time, upgrading from the iPhone 5 to the 5S because how beautiful it looks. I don't understand how they could get rid of the chamfered edges over a rounder look, but that's just my opinion. The chamfered edges made the phone look like a jewel.

For the first time ever, I'm not pre-ordering until I see this thing in my hand.

Galaxy Note N7000

Launch Date: 2011
Features:
NFC, Barometer (nice to check local weather trends), 8MP rear camera, dual-core, 1GB RAM.

I know, there are subtle differences, but... c'mon, Apple. You're launching something as innovative as 2011 tech like if it was a big deal. Hopefully, the software developers will turn iOS 8 a killer mobile operating system, but wait: Siri still doesn't speak portuguese when Google and Samsung already does it for years.

All hopes will be deposited on iOS, because hardware-wise it looks pretty outdated.

The A8 probably has a 20 times advantage on this computer's chip in single core speed (the most important one), not even speaking about the GPU. The NFC with at that time had use cases (and barely more now). It had a 8MP camera that was much much worse than this the Iphone (if you think MP is a gauge of quality, then I can't help you). I got a G16 Canon standalone camera at only 12MP and it obliterated every cellphone's camera by a mile).

Me either. Apple might have just seriously compromised the sales numbers of the iPad mini with this new ginormous phone though. Whatever.

Phones are still too small for me and way too expensive off contract for me to even consider anyways. Oh well.

Y'all enjoy your giant slab...errr....ummmm... "Phone".

:p

doesn't matter. iPhone sells at a way more expensive price with minimal cost compared to the Mini.

I was one saying the same thing about iPhone 5 vs iPhone 4S when it was announced. I learned my lesson not to say anything until I hold one in my hand.

----------

$959 to be exact...in US...lol.

----------

After iPhone 6 sale reaches the record high in shortest time and maintain the lead until next refresh...Keep dreaming.

$959 ?? lol.. $100 to slap a 128gb micro sd card into my LG G3 .. $35 for 64gb.. ya'll have fun handing over your cash for that memory.. probably a $5 difference in production cost..

So no IR blaster either??

Apple pay isn't going to change much.. NFC has been around for ages now. Until every retail checkout counter and gas pump supports a common standardized NFC payment technology, you still need to carry your cards. And if your battery runs out or your drop your phone, you're ***** outa luck. If I drop my wallet, my cards still work. Just because 'Apple', which is only 30+% of the market now, has a payment system, doesn't mean it's all of a sudden going to take off.

But hey, look at the bright side, you finally have horizontal capabilities.. woo hoo! And its finally not always 73 degrees.

Interesting, if you think these are so similar - where did you stand on the whole Samsung Galaxy ripoff?

Can't blame Samsung, they were just following Steve's advice.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CW0DUg63lqU

Them being crap is a personal issue.

Them being laggy is just plain wrong.
You're either satisfied with mediocrity, or you haven't used any of the mentioned devices...

Nexus experience is the smoothest since its the vanilla version and usually comes with solid hardware. Every other top tier android phone lags, glitches, and plenty of other issues. I am not talking about using a phone for a day or a month, but long term. With all the crap they pack into every Android phone today its not surprising. The smoothest experience is by far with an Apple product, and then a nexus device. Even if you take the older nexus phone youll still get a solid experience, similar to Apple.

And you're still using anecdotal evidence to support personal opinion, which is moot.

I've had lag on my iPad mini and iPhones as well, everyone does. It's the nature of tech.

I've had no issues with my Note 2 plugged into a 1080p display with Bluetooth keyboard and mouse while running two apps side by side with a floating window.

Then I've had the Note 2 choke opening a webpage.

I've used plenty of Android phones and tablets and chromebooks and . . . . . . .
