So in the end, Apple steals the HTC One M8 design and makes it uglier?

First time I think having an android/windows phone that is better looking then the iPhone..

Are you saying this perfection Ugly?

How is a mat harder to use? The iPhone rings, I pick it up. Then put it back down to carry on charging when I've finished the call. Better than having to fumble with a cable to unplug it to answer.

The phone becomes harder to use because WHILE its charging you can't use it except face up on the mat. Most people pick up their phone to use it. You can't play most game or type fast, or make a call except on speaker when the phone is laying on a table. I don't know why you need to unplug the phone to receive a call? Picking it up off the mat ends the charge so if you need to talk a long time you would be unable to do so with it on the mat.

And that is the problem right there. It's a phone, used to call people. All these bells and whistles aren't bringing us together, they're making our lives more complicated and if you are buying a mobile phone of which you hardly use the "phone" part, maybe people should rethink it.

*Yes I understand those who are hearing impaired would benefit from a larger device, but this is in relation to the general public and the social trend in relying upon technology too much

Mobiles are hardly "phones" anymore and it's hardly even the primary function of my device - it's the mobile data that is. That's pliable. Line, whatsapp, iMessage, via voice, video, text or photo. Myriads of ways to quickly and efficiently communicate. Voice isn't always the best medium in the always on, always connected world.

I don't know if you travel in Asia much but I can tell you this: larger screen phones are everywhere. People carry them in little flip cases like a pocketbook with cash and credit cards. It's also a huge huge huge growth market for Apple.

The 4.7 may prove to initially be more popular in the US. But I guarantee you Apple will sell millions and millions of the 6+.

You mean the htc one that was clearly inspired by the iPhone 5? And please, the 6 looks much sleeker than the htc one.

The 1GB argument. I can see why so many of you are hung up on that, but the fact that you compare it to leading Android phones is asinine.

I have used everything from Galaxy 2, 3, 4, Nexus (by far the smoothest), HTC One, and many others, and they all lag, no matter how much RAM you give those phones. Android is fundamentally a different OS compared to iOS which doesnt require as much RAM to be functional.

The tabs in browser argument. How many damn tabs do you people need? Why are you opening that many tabs to begin with to slow the phone down? I never had issues with my 5 or 5s (ipad yes), and 6 I doubt ill have any issues with either. The fact that you need to have that many tabs open to begin with makes think youre using the wrong device. Stick to a computer then!

True enough about investments. Why would I pick up an Android phone? Have had lots of iPhones, I just don't ever drop them.

Call whatever you like, I call computer hardware an investment because I get a lot of use out of it. Not all returns are in the form of cash.

Sorry you can't use a case. Guess you'll have to pick up one of those giant aluminum Android phablets. No iPhone for you!

None of those phones lag. I've had them all as well. From time to time my Note 2 and SGS3 hung up on an app, but even my brand new iPad Mini does that. My iPhone has crashed from time to time too.

This lagging on the Android thing is just as much nonsense as the iPhone needs 16GBs of RAM nonsense.

Me either. Apple might have just seriously compromised the sales numbers of the iPad mini with this new ginormous phone though. Whatever.

Phones are still too small for me and way too expensive off contract for me to even consider anyways. Oh well.

Y'all enjoy your giant slab...errr....ummmm... "Phone".

:p

Except they're not phones and they're not trying to be. Really they should'nt even be called "smartphones". They're ultra portable computers that can makes calls amongst other things.

That was such a gorgeous phone. The last great Apple design?

Apple are reminding me of post 90's Mercedes at the moment - they've lost the magic engineering and design feel they had and are being led by the marketing department and bean counters. This is the least impressive "next iteration" announcement from Apple since the 5 for me, they're taking backward design steps each time lately...

Can't help but think this was the last phone with Jobs at the helm? He never lost track of "proportions" which is so important for a product.

I use the phone as it charges while plugged ALL THE TIME. I do it especially when I'm in heavy use mode like playing a CPU intensive game were I know that if I do it while not plugged, I'll cream my battery.

So much for no upgrade… I'm sold!

Best camera, best CPU, best quality screen, toughest screen, thinner, significantly longer battery time, etc. Pretty decent upgrade I'd say.

how many of you 'loving the new iPhone form factor' were criticizing android phones for being too clumsy/too big two years ago?

To be fair this is much thinner and easier to handle than those phones of a few years ago.

Apple has much higher margins on phones than on the mini, so I don't think they are worried.. They probably make as much on one phone as on two mini,

I don't agree with you on the HTC One M8. The design looks really good IMHO.

What is fake leather plastic? I don't own a S5 but from what I've seen the back is leather isn't it?

Sorry, but geo is still right. The HTC One M8 is a really ugly phone. Seen from the backside, it looks like a freebie metal case for my sunglasses that I got from LensCrafters. Free but tacky. :p

Amazing how so many people are quick to diss the new iPhone designs, but then they admit to liking phones that are cringeworthy and hideous in their own right.

I sort of agree... unfortunately. I was really hoping all those leaks weren't going to be the actual iPhone 6, but guess they were. The lines on the back def have a purpose, but still look ugly. I am completely un-wowed by Apple's design here, but at this point that's every new Apple product. Beautiful and simple, borrowing from iPad or vice versa, but not awesome as it could be. My thoughts on my need for the iPhone Plus... "I want to know what it feels like if my hand shrunk!"

All the photos I'Ve seen make the M8 look worse than the 6, are there some underground beauty pics I'm not aware of?

One handed mode seems amazingly simple and intuitive.

The one handed double tap on the ID button, seems a bit silly because even doing that one handed on my iPod touch is awkward and doing that on a bigger phone especially the 6plus I would say is near enough to impossible unless you don't mind the considerable risk of dropping the phone because you are only holding the phone by the bottom two inches, and then there's the extra leverage at the other end.

However this is easily fixed by going into one handed mode with a special gesture on the screen, like a back an forth swipe with the thumb where ever is most comfortable.

Exactly. Not sure if you read the entire conversation between me and the other person.

For all the camera whiners out there....

Apple made the right call.......most people SHOULD USE cases on any phone, and this allows for an improved camera while not creating blocking issues in a well-designed case.
Brilliant

1) Lol, until apple says it's "ready"
2) no it cannot
3) it's more than useful; you don't have experience with it.
4) what a joke, you don't know what an S5 camera can do
5) Superior video, that's what
6) S5 uses full 16MP to capture video; you can then zoom in and there is NO loss in resolution
7) lol, it works 99% of the time. Try taking selfie without voice activated shutter; but iPhone doesn't have it so it's not useful

7) Hahahaha. Selfies? Really? Are you that self centered? Why do you even bother reading the forums if you are so against the iPhone?

"Apple is just so stupid!"? or you? iPhone profit margin is 2.5-3x more than iPad mini. Do the elementary math, kiddo.

Ummm why do you think I rolled eyes at the end of my statement!! I was being sarcastic!! Apple is genius in convincing us to upgrade, pops!

"And that large size is pretty key; this is the phone that's going to force Apple to turn the iPad into a true laptop competitor. I have an iPad mini that will never come out again once I get this phone; I have an iPad Air that will need a better reason to come out than simply the size of its screen."

This is pretty much what I thought when I first saw the 6 Plus. Yes, the Mini is considerably larger, but it appears this will do everything it will do and still be pretty much pocketable. I think the 6 is probably a more "comfortable" size, but the 6 Plus seems to be the only one of the two that runs full landscape - and that may be the deciding factor for me. Looking forward to a hands-on comparison soon.
