you are seriously hopeless LOL
I am and I'm also right about this. Apple will keep the number of combinations of color and size options as low as possible to streamline production and distribution. The pattern that the model with more color options will have fewer size options and vice versa will hold true for years to come.

Still have my 4S and will continue to hold onto it. I'll upgrade when I get a larger screen. Looks like I'll be skipping two generations of iPhones, which is the first time ever. I don't see anything really exciting here.

You got a larger screen last year....:D

anyone know if they fixed the scroll lag from the 5. i heard it may have the led panel itself that was the problem in the 5. hoping to trade side ways to the 5c if it does not have the lag.

I never experienced scroll lag during my nearly one year use of the iPhone 5. I don't know what are you talking about?

...and Apple's laptops are still regarded as the best laptops on the market, for both Macs and Windows.

Unless:
  • you need an optical drive
  • you need 32 GiB of RAM
  • you need native full HD (1080p) display without scaling
  • you need multiple spindles
  • you need user-replaceable batteries (as in, carry a couple of spares in your bag)
  • you need internal 3G/4G radios in the laptop

Apple fans "regard" them as the best, but my W530 blows any MacBook away in many dimensions.

Is the 5s really that tiny or does that dude just have really big hands?

A 4" screen is tiny today.

64-bit doubles the amount of information the chip can process per cycle compared to 32-bit. So without even increasing the cpu frequency the computer is instantly twice as fast. Thats what it does.

As Colonel Potter would say - what a load of horse-hockey! So wrong it's hilarious.

64-bits lets you address more than 4 GiB (or 2 GiB) of RAM more easily (even 32-bit x86 Intel chips can use 64 GiB of RAM). How much RAM does an Iphone 5 have??

It does *nothing* to make the chip faster - 32-bit Haswell chips can use 256-bit registers. 32-bit x86 chips have used 128-bit registers since 1999 - when Apple was still dealing with the PowerPC fiasco.

Some 64-bit architectures have other features unrelated to being 64-bit that help performance - for example the x64 architecture has twice as many registers compared to the x86 architecture, which helps (not "doubles") performance. From today's PowerPoints, it seems that the A7 also doubled the number of registers compared to the A6.

...and to simply say that 64-bit is twice as fast as 32-bit is ignorant. Consider reading What the first 64-bit iPhone chip means for you (hint: not much right now)

I was pretty impressed with the 5s. The camera upgrades seem significant and with 3 kids it'll be put to use. I like the fingerprint sensor, everything see well executed. Only negative really is the 16gb size. 32 gb starting model and it'd be a no brainer upgrade.

I have a 4s now, plan on getting a ipad 5, so I'm gonna get a 5s so I'm lightning everything and easier. Since my iPhone will prolly be 16 gb ill get a 32 gb ipad

LOL - thanks for strengthening my "PowerPC Fiasco" comment.

x86 had 128-bit registers before PPC - but the first VMX PPC chips were more suited for some specific tasks. Apple certainly "cherry-picked" and highlighted some specific apps where VMX was an advantage over x86.

But that's an aside - my point is that 64-bit doesn't make it twice as fast, 128-bit doesn't make it 4 times faster, and 256-bit doesn't make it 8 times faster. (And the truly curious and clueless will ask why 64-bit doesn't make it 4 billion times faster, 128-bit doesn't make it 16 quintillion times faster, and 256-bit doesn't make it 10^36 faster.)

  • You need to look at the data bus. if the data bus is 64 bit also then you get your twice as fast memory access..

AltiVec was introduced one year before SSE in 1998, MMX was 80 bit. There are surely pro's and cons to both. In my opinion the primary reason for the switch was mobile, look at current PPC like A2 (16 cores) or Power8 surely in the higher end of CPUs.

who's gonna buy last year's phone to save a measly $100 over a current flagship knowing that, apart from the satisfaction of owning a top of the line product, if that's a thing for you, that extra $100 will get you hardware that will last/be relevant a year longer than the cheaper alternative, however long that'll last

But what if what you think will last a couple of years only lasts a year, and what lasts a year really lasts for two years, see, and then it lasts longer then what lasted with other updates that didn't last as long as this lasts?

Troll much?

this was the most boring apple show ever! NOTHING new at all! always the same boring formular...it worked 4 years ago...but not any longer!

the new iphone with a finger print scanner for the NSA. wow! That is why I should spend 700-900 euros? For USSR-style spying on me tech?

ARE YOU ****ING NUTS???

Besides: Americans might be used to be spied upon. Germans are no better! However I refuse to pay any money on something that has only disadvantages for me - and no real benefits.Whats new iphone-wise Apple? Except of course that by using my finger prints I am loosing any chance to say "it was not me" who went for this or that porn site. Besides an A7, A8, or A9 with 2000 GHZ does NOT make me stiff.

Same time: LGs new phone offers a lot more ... and Apple does not innovate anymore. As a matter of fact Apple just repackages his old **** and gives it a higher number. Method: lets do something new: phones with color cases and - wow - one in gold. OMG! It is so pathetic! I loved Apple products, but this is too much!

My plan - and same 4 others: lets go low tech! Lets move data offline! We fought the Stasi in Germany. Next is the german secret service and the NSA. Keep your dirty fingers away from our data!

Do you troll much?

So what great feature does LG or any other iPhone rip-off Android product have? A bigger screen that has no more resolution than a smaller one, but is so big as to make portability and usability laughable? A bump feature to share photos? Been there done that. A Siri knock-off that amazingly provides all Google results? A fancy cute little software feature that was done already by an iOS app years ago?

Oh sure, Apple doesn't innovate anymore. No, they just announced 64-bit desktop level performance in the palm of your hand, camera improvements that make actual pictures look significantly better as opposed to making a spec sheet look more impressive, and another major boost to graphics performance, and a fingerprint sensor that actually works reliably and locally encrypts and stores the authentication so it's actually harder, if not impossible, for the NSA to spy on you - the opposite of what you've incorrectly assumed. All this and further refinements to other subsystems like motion control and radio communication bands. Theses aren't innovations, right? Of couse not! What a joke... Troll elsewhere.

Sounds like I am in the minority, but I am very much looking forward to getting the 5S. Coming from a 4 currently this is going to be a huge upgrade for me.

I'm on a 4s but I agree! The last few weeks I've been wondering which would I would go with. I think I'll just scale back the music I carry with me. I don't care about the fingerprint sensor, but all the other spec bumps sound excellent!
And IMHO, glass has always seemed like a terrible material for a phone.

Soft aluminium is worse.

  • Well said. The problem as I see it is that everybody is still expecting that "one more thing" surprise. It's not innovative because we knew it was coming is a new mantra, however small-minded and selfish it may be.

I'll give it a try and get back to you ;-)

People can brush off the 5S all they want - I'm finally upgrading from my 3GS and getting off ATT - and getting a 5S!! The 3GS has served me well. Just feels so slow these days. Sure wish they still made all black though. "Space Grey" will have to do. There's no way I'm getting "gold" or "white" for that matter.

That's a nice upgrade! Hope you enjoy it!

Including size. I give you the 32GB of RAM (although RAM compression in Mavericks does kinda result in a equal amount), the battery and even the 17" option.

However, this thing is huge. You can stack the rMBP on top of a BluRay writer, multiple hard drives and a 4G USB stick, and have something that still results in smaller physical dimensions. "Native 1080p" sounds like something not a lot of people would demand if you can have a higher resolution display, too.

Also, you W530 makes you carry along your multiple hard drives, 4G stick and BluRay writer all the time. You can't leave them at home when you don't need them.

Looks like a couple of great phones, but i had the distinct impression that Tim Cook and co were forcing the enthusiasm. They all seemed a bit lackluster. I think they know their product refresh cycle is way too long and that the market is demanding a larger screen for premium devices. It certainly is in Asia. The C will do well but a larger screen is needed as a part of the lineup.

What's the bet they announce iPhone 6 in 6 months?

Nice but no sale

I actually like the plastic of the 5c but where is the black ? Also, it's offensive that they really try to pawn off older technology at a higher price by putting it in a cheaper housing...greedy, condescending antics like these weaken my loyalty to the brand. Yeah, Tim, you're right Apple's never done this before...and you might wish someday you had never done it.

iOS needs to add easy app archiving (with associated data !) of lesser used apps to free up space and implement SOME way to share my device securely...either offer multiple accounts or let me choose what apps I want (and/or also folders (iPhoto, Pages etc.)) to lock within the settings....great security features to combine with the new finger print / home button thingy.

Overall, nice and significant additions but I see no compelling reason to upgrade if you are happy with your current iPhone. I'm waiting to see what's on offer next year....while monitoring the Windows 8 platform closely.

Hopefully, the imminent iPad line will offer up some saleable goodies.

Pretty amazing how Apple has been selling iDevices like this since they started and people think it is going to change now.

Well, I'm not that surprised nor amazed. It makes excellent business sense. Adding e.g. SD ports to iPhones would obliterate the market for the 32 or 64 Mb versions and would divert those revenues to SanDisk.

Getting the versions more closely priced to the real cost of the memory (e.g. $199, $129, $149) would destroy differentiation and segment targeting between the versions and make production planning very difficult, increasing cost.

I'm amazed other phone producers don't realise this.
