The design isn't bad. The increased size of the screen is a great thing in my opinion, although some rumors suggest that the size increase will be in height alone, rather than width as well. My girlfriend's brother recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy S III, and I've come to love the bigger screen.

When I got my iPhone 4 I was confident that my next phone would be the iPhone 5. But unless this next iPhone really packs a punch, I'm probably going to have to make a move back to Android.

While it can't be confirmed for certain, this is going to be the new iPhone for better or worse. Think of it like a scientific theory. All evidence is pointing to A, then it is highly unlikely that it is going to be B. With that said, I actually kinda like it, looks a bit more sophisticated in design. Even if it means holding a touch screen remote control length phone. Don't like the rumored specs, though. And yes, I'm a specs guy so they are important for me. Makes my phone less future proof.

So nobody finds it even remotely strange that we have had over a dozen of leaked parts, cases, complete phones, renders, .. coming from nowhere, not taken down by Apple. I'm not the conspiracy guy, but i'm finding this way too easy to believe.

If Apple sent takedown notices for this stuff, it would confirm that it's true. They learned that a few years ago when leaked images of the 3rd GEN iPod Nano (the fatty) appeared online and Apple sent takedown notices. It all but confirms it.

Does anyone find it odd that we have seen numerous leaks for the housing, but no leaks for the internals? Usually by this point there have been several hardware leaks. Right now we have a good idea of what it may look like but we are all clueless as to why there is a two tone back, we don't know anything about the processor, ram, storage, battery, etc. Am I the only one that finds that odd?

They will end up with assembling all parts from difference sources to a working iPhone.:D

granted, I'd put one of these in a case immediately after buying it, so the black bands on the back wouldn't be nearly as visible then, but to echo what many others have said, that two-toned back is hideous. I'll keep my 4S, thanks :).

if this is the true new iphone can someone explain what is the added benefit of a different aspect ratio to the phone? We have 5 phones with one aspect ratio and now it is being changed b/c it is better way to make a phone?

Why have no other phones done this? i'm just trying to wrap my head around this since I'd think you'd want to make the phone wider as well.

I like the current aspect ratio of the iphone and ipad which is why it's lasted 5 years. Why not just increase it in both directions like 15 to 20% and remove the black bars so it doesn't add too much to the height?

Not really. People steal parts that will get their site/blog/youtube channel hits. As you can see from the tone of the people on these forums, most care about what it looks like and not the internal specs.

I think the following posts from the first page of the first iPhone 4 leaked photos on macrumors are interesting:

I agreed with many of the quotes it was quite Sony Erisson but that's why I switched from those phones to Apple. Sony are just Sony phones again and they all run Android. My first thoughts on the Iphone 4 were finally they made a high quality touch phone I wanted. Looked a bit LG/Sony Ericsson but much better.

Anyway another positive of this new design is the mute switch stays. :)

Yes you're maybe right about that.

But i don't know. Cook explicitly said that they are tightening their security, no leaks and all that, and then boom: for over more than a half year we've had numerous leaks, parts, renders, plotting schemes, internal cables, full size phones, ... It's never been this bad for an iPhone. And all of the same single design. You can't honestly believe this isn't intentional.

The design is nice, but it is still an iphone 4, no great innovation in the exterior design, i think this phone will sell a lot, but apple should have done a larger screen to both directions, i like most apple products, but this time i think apple crossed the line in terms of making its loyal customers wait so long and come out with a modified iPhone 4 whe have now 2 years with the same design, i was hoping for more innovation speccialy in the screen size.

the Growth of the screen just in the vertical direction is useless....

There has been a few tall phones actually.

From what I can see the benefit will be turning the phone on it's side. It will have an amazing screen for taking pictures and video and watching video.

A larger screen side ways is only good for browsing the internet.

Again, I still don't like the two tone looking back. Make it either all aluminum or glass. However, I will still buy it.

Yes I knew him personally. We use to drop acid together.

Of course not. Sigh. But as designer and "student" of Apple's design it is fair game to speculate (yes speculate sir) that he would not approve of this. This has COO turned CEO written all over it. Cook doesn't have vision. But damn right he's the guy to temporarily fill the shoes. Sadly if products keep looking like this Apple will lose some if their cache.

Speculation? Really? "He would NEVER approve an aesthetic like that," doesn't sound like speculation to me.

Oh well, I am so glad that being a student of Apple design gives you such insight into a man that was known to often surprise people in design and technology!

Again the 3GS was like the 3G and first Iphone.

3GS was most popular.

It is the aspect ratio that I can't get my arms around either. I would much prefer the original aspect ratio, and based on comments I have seen we are not even close to alone on this, but I think we are getting a longer screen at the same width.

So much for cracking down on security. Tim's about to look like the biggest loser in Apple history, coming up with a crappy iPhone and not just failing to crack down on leaks, but having the biggest leak ever.

Tim fails hard this time. Wouldn't be surprised to see him in the news with a bullet in his brain.

On the other hand, if this IS fake, huge credit to Tim. He goes down as the greatest genius ever, which I really hope will happen. But I strongly doubt it...this is the new iPhone guys. :(

Please tell me more about how you can predict the future.

I dunno, it's common sense after multiple parts leak from different sources (all with the same design, and rumors). It's not predicting the future - it's being rational. It's the same reason why I know Apple is releasing a new iPhone this year.

Could I be wrong? Sure. But, logic tells me otherwise.

I don't disagree, but remember the tapered iPhone hardware mockup last year?

Not saying it's likely, but it is possible this is not the design.

There was no leak last year. It was pure speculation. This two-tone designed has leaked parts (from various sources) and fully assembled. Also, it was pure wishful thinking of the tapered design for people who wanted change for change-sake.

Oh really? And how do you know this? Source?

The video on the top of the thread. Along with the consistent leaks for the past 3 months.

The pictures show a silver-colored band on the circumference of the phone. In the video it is dark black, why is that?

I noticed that too, but none of the sources I've looked at even mention it. Someone said in this thread that it was a reflection but that seems implausible to me.

i really want to get the next gen i phone. but why does apple use the same freaking design. i mean really. change it a bit.

I appreciate the minimal changes to design.

I guess I'm one of the few people who still wants my "mobile" phone to be mobile and fit in my pants pocket. I don't want a super large screen or a mini-tablet. I want something that's comfortable in my hand and doesn't take up too much space when I'm not using it.

I think it is a happy medium between user feedback clamoring for a bigger screen and Apple's opinion of the iPhone screen being "the perfect size."

I have used many "huge screen" Android phones and "taller but NOT wider" will help keep the phone usable with 1 hand.

Attempting to "Slide unlock" my Galaxy Nexus one-handed using my left hand frequently causes me to activate the camera lockscreen shortcut with the end of my hand (joint where thumb meets hand).
