The 6.1, with it's single camera, looks like a bad deal in comparison to the iPhoneX.
Aluminium frame instead of SS? No thanks.

I actually prefer the aluminum frame over the stainless steel and will be looking forward to moving from a X to the 6.1” next month.

Different strokes.

Yes Apple, please making the phones bigger and bigger each year so one day I can start using my phone as a television!
It's not going to be bigger than the existing Plus models. It'll have a bigger screen, but the phone itself won't be bigger in your pocket. Just like the iPhone X, bigger screen can be achieved without increasing the outer dimensions.

The x is a bit bigger so I would expect the same for the x+

Can’t justify spending $1,300 one year later. Yes, we are not in an era of disposable devices, but my 6s and X are in fantastic shape, so I think I will hold off until 5G is in full effect. Daily Mail snapped Tim Cook not using the latest iPad while getting his BMW washed (then again it could be one of many he owns). I am sure iOS 12, 13 and 14 will work just great on my X first gen.

I say all this now and its a different story when I visit the store.

True, it's a matter of taste too.
SS doesn't wear like Aluminium does.
Take the Apple Watch for example.
If you look at the 2nd hand market in AW's (e.g. EBay) you can clearly see the damage the Aluminium cases take.
The SS AW, and I've got an S0 SS AW, still looks mint.
The iPhone isn't a "wearable" but it gets kicked around a lot more than a Mac laptop would.
I suppose if you have it encased in a decent case like most do then it's a moot point.

So there’s no genuine replacement for an iphone8? If you like the size of standard 8 which way do you go now? A 2nd gen X that will cost more? The 6.1 but it’s bigger and you lose 3D Touch?

If you like the 8 Plus, is the X plus the answer to maintain dual camera and 3D Touch, but you pay through the nose?

I’m having trouble seeing this play out. It would make sense to have 6.1 in standard and plus size with feature parity to the 8 range.

I don’t know if these are the same dummies that MKBHD had on his video a couple of days ago, but I appreciate the clarification that the 6.5 and the 8 Plus will be essentially the same size.

I can check one concern off the list.

Exactly. The bit in the video around 1:30 was all I really cared about. I skipped the X last year, and my 7 Plus is due for replacement. Personally I can never go back to the smaller size phone. But the jumbo OLED sounds like it will be fine.

Ugh, I hope there's no truth to this. I already dislike the size of the 6/7/8 (and even the 5 is a stretch TBH) and now the rumour is the X is the smallest? Christ.

It's time to adapt, the iPhone 5 is tiny, was always tiny. If you can't handle that, you're not in the market for a smartphone. Are you also unaware that the 5.8" phone is literally the same size, or smaller, than the 6/7/8? And that the 6.5" will be the same size or slightly smaller than the old Plus models? That's not really all that bad...

The 2018 iPhone better have something special otherwise the iPhoneX will continue to be their best seller (time for a price drop?)
The notch on those dummy models looks like it has 2 new front facing cameras. No mention of them in the video?
I went from iPhone 6Plus to iPhone X and I wouldn't go back to that larger screen size.
It's just too cumbersome.
It's hand bag ballast. I remember reading a psychology report that suggested women prefer larger screens to men.

Ah yes, already speculating on "bad deals" when we don't even know the prices yet...not sure what you want them to do to shave hundreds of dollars off the price...

Will the 6.5" model have a 16x9 aspect ratio so videos aren't cropped?

Good question, and I haven't seen this addressed in any speculative reporting.
There’s been lots of reporting! The 6.5” has the same aspect ratio as the current X, 19.5:9. But the (landscape) height of the X Plus screen is the same as the older Plus models. So 16:9 content played on any Plus phone, old or new, gives the same picture size; it’ll just be pillarboxed on the X Plus (unused screen area on the left and right).

Those who prefer can choose to zoom the video content out to the corners, but they’re going to lose a ton of content on the top and bottom, as well as a little bit at the corners/notch.

I truly hope for something groundbreaking this time around. Anything different. I just can't get on the bandwagon for something "new" only to to be told that speed was increased by a fraction of what we have already, the screen size is bigger, and there are new Emoji's. It's not enough. I would almost rather them take a backseat to the iPhone for a minute and focus on some other tech or wearable devices. I mean, common', The Apple Contact Lens? I would be in a tent tomorrow in line for that. The hype of new is lost on me.

That's a you problem, not Apple's problem. Not sure what you want or expect. The phones get massively more advanced inside every year, it's not their fault if all you do with them is send emojis, read emails and browse twitter...

No it wasn't, the first generation Note wasn't even a year old when the iPhone 5 rolled out.

All these huge phones are cringy as hell, and the standard 6S is huge compared to the SE in the pocket, where it matters. The 4" screen is perfect for those of us who have better things to do than watch Netflix or whatever on a phone - Hell i'd go 3.5" if I could. Worked fine when I had an iPhone 4, what's different these days?

Look at all these people saying how the next release (same with the last release) is boring. It is boring, because every phone is huge these days. Is there even an Android equivalent of the SE?

I want a phone version of the 6th gen iPod touch, now that would be awesome

Hmm, I just thought of an advertising campaign, have imagery of a bunch of boring people on a bus or train all with their faces lit up by their phablet screens, then some attractive person pulling a super thin 3.5" iphone out of their jeans coin pocket and start chatting about, I dunno, whatever attractive people talk about. Kind of like the 1984 campaign but... reimagined for the next generation of tech needing a shake up with something new

add some cringy line about how a phone is "for those who want more out of life" or something, et voila

thats why i might wait on the pre-order bc i want to see how the 6.5 inch feels .. i love the X seems to be the perfect size and with the screen still be 5.8 " seems to be the sweet spot .. but we'll see. the WWDC might make a difference

I know and just like the iPhone X its too big for me. I have small hands. Don't need bigger phone

The iPhone X isn’t Apple’s “best seller”. It is the most expensive iPhone in history. In the EU it costs €1150. ONE THOUSAND EUROS for a smartphone that will start feeling slow in 2.5 years. I rarely see people here with an iPhone X. Why? Because it is bloody expensive.

So no, the 6.1 isn’t a “bad deal”. In fact it IS the best deal. This is why Apple is making it. They came to the hard realization that may be making an iPhone that costs a thousand euros isn’t the best of ideas. Also, Most people (including me) put their fragile iPhones in cases. A frame made out of steel or aluminum won’t matter to 99% of the people.

It amazes me that people still don't get what Apple sell. What they don't sell is "bargains".
The iPhoneX should have proven that. "Too expensive" everyone said and yet...

If they want a "new" phone, with dual cameras, at a bargain price then they'll probably buy a 2nd hand, or discounted, iPhoneX.
My point is that the 6.1 might struggle with competition from the iPhone X.
Time, with pricing and features, will tell.
I don't think most people consider $700 to be a bargain price. And considering iPhone 8 has single camera lens and aluminum body, it would seem logical for its replacement to be also single camera lens and aluminum body, but upgraded with iPhone X's most signature features: edge to edge screen and FaceID.

OLED, dual camera lenses, thinner frame, etc. are attractive to more discerning buyers, but considering iPhone 8 and 8 Plus were selling well alongside iPhone X, there's a huge market for cheaper iPhone.
