I am getting more excited by the day, for the new iPhone 8. The purported laser face scanning sounds cool and the expected OLED screen will undoubtably be an improvement over current LCD screens (not that I have complaints about the 6s or 7 screens). What I'm most excited about is getting a smaller form factor without sacrificing screen size coming from my 6s. I'm also hoping Apple includes something new that we don't expect (not talking about inductive charging).

Threads like this always show me how different my personal tastes can be compared to most everyone else. I quite like the white front, in fact I went with Silver for the 7 because I wanted a white front, and I will most likely go silver again for the white front :p

With the prospective launch date of the new 2017 iPhone models just weeks away, iPhone 8 dummy models, printed mockups, and clones have been circulating regularly, giving us an idea of what to expect with Apple's radically redesigned edge-to-edge OLED iPhone is unveiled.

We got our hands on one of the high-quality iPhone 8 dummy models that's been making the rounds thanks to MobileFun and Olixar, and we've done a hands-on video to give MacRumors readers a close look at the design of the device and how it measures up to existing devices.

You have GOT to be kidding. "Hands on with a DUMMY". Sloooowwww news day. LOL

Here's hoping Apple makes a 6.5"+ version next year in the same form factor. I actually like the size of the plus.

You do realize that you are getting your panties in a twist about a "rumored" design and dummy?
With all your answers about what the design should be like, it is very clear that you should apply at Apple to take over Jony's place immediately!
Finally, if you don't like: DON'T BUY!, but we all know you will....., so much for .........
Thx but chances are little (while I am available...) To be honest, I have less than 20% of his design talent.
However, I would - even for a fraction of their salaries - find someone who would do a landmark new design for billions of customers instead of an iPh6 rev. 3 with slightly sharper edges.
And if Joni is incapable to do so, why not provision the S6 case with OLED in it - that is so much better than anything Apple ever did.
I just upgraded to 6S and won't blindly buy anything newer just because, contrary to what you suggest.
Indeed, I am tied to iOS - but I don't see why I should be punished for that.

I believe most design options were taken so Apple did a design that could differentiate themselves. The only issue is that they will have tremendous difficulty switching to another design after this so-called iphone 8 with its trademark notch releases. Both the LG V30 and the Note 8 have much better designs (heck even the note 7...rest in peace). There is something plain, ugly, and none creative about this apple design.

Nonetheless, I will be purchasing the beautiful Note 8 as usual. Samsung at least has two sides with no bezel unlike the iphone 8 and they will gradually reduce the very small top and bottom bezels even more for next years rendition (and before you comment on bezels, please look at your iphone 7...thank you). Samsung was actually the smart one when it came to design and thinking about the future.

The notch design is more future proof compared to LG and Samsung designs. The notch maximizes screen-to-body ratio with the trade-off being higher production cost.

Apple may eventually reduce or remove the bezels on three sides, but the notch design will be retained for cameras. It's an engineering choice that maximizes screen real estate.

if Steve alive
we would not have any iPhone bigger that 4"

There wouldn’t be iPad mini and those chopping board iPad pro

No. Jobs had a pretty good record of being adamantly against something until the moment he was absolutely for it. He'd say an MP3 player was terrible because it didn't have a screen... until Apple released a music player w/o a screen. He'd say DVD-ROM was the future and DVD-R was a dead end until he announced the first PowerMac with a DVD-R and Apple branded DVD-R blanks. Plenty of other examples.

But Steve wasn't being wishy-washy. It was just that new facts, ideas were presented to Jobs, or brainstormed by him, to change his mind. Steve understood that you have to bend to the marketplace even as you are aiming to get the marketplace to bend to you. Steve wasn't 100% inflexible as folklore would have it. He understood you have to bend sometimes or you break.

If you mean like Samsung's treatment -- because it's ugly and that extra few mm on the edge is useless. Thank the Lord they didn't go that route. The white unibrow is enough to take in.

Agree. That’s why there were so many models of iPods.

I guess I can see what the next review is going to be like.

Seriously? Hands on a "dummy" that may not even be what the real deal is?

The facial ID feature solves a problem that didn't exist - and shouldn't have existed at all.

For us, the Inaugural Board of Casanova University, it is a pleasure to announce the appointment of Sir J. Ive as Honorary Professor at the Faculty of Protruding Design.
Mr. Ive will drive the University lease car that conforms to his personal preferences and as a preventive measure, will not give a single college per student semester.

Jesus, how bad this thing looks. I guess they couldn't be bothered to make an effort, as people will buy it anyway.

I’ve truthfully never liked the white fronts. People are just now saying it looks off when... off lol. But it’s aleaydnlooked off to me.

Anyway I’m hoping all models are black. I will have a case anyway, and so this way I can have whatever color I can get my hands on the soonest. Gold is my last option but I’ll take that happily if it means getting it sooner.

Am I the only one that's concerned with the timeline here? There have been no less than 10 leaks that Apple is having production issues, and that there are high defect rates, and that they are having difficulties with certain features, etc... and now the rumor says they're going into mass production amid all of these rumors? A bit scary... especially given Apple's track record with issues in software\hardware.
One theory is that the production issues were mainly related to the under-display TouchID and that by foregoing TouchID production constraints will be significantly reduced. For once, production issues and under-display TouchID had been linked in quite a number of rumours. Secondly, the 'news' that TouchID seems to be definitely out and that the iPhone 8 will actually launch in September (combined with the going away of severe production constraints news) appear to be correlated in time.

Again, you are commenting on rumors as if they are real. You design taste may be way different than that of others.
I am also tied into Apple and buy a new iphone only every 3 or 4 generations. From a 4S to a 6S plus and maybe to an 8S Plus (Whatever the name) IF it is worth it. (More memory and space) Not fond of dropping the audio jack.

To state that you would be "punished" when a design is not the way you'd expect it, is a little over the top.
I am pretty sure you have other priorities in life which come before that.

Same for the people who keep complaining about the camera bump!

My contributions towards Apple date from the time that they were active in design, market leaders in innovation and cried their supremacy in those area's from every corner of the street, everyday.
All the money that they piled up comes from customers that were persuaded by that company profile and those core values. THAT is why they chose fo Apple, THAT's what we bought $14.000 LaserWriters and $15k Mac Pluses for - not for the current crop of lamentating managers, for half-innovation where 80% of thousands of patents never see daylight, for buying Samsung screens and borrowing things from others they used to despise at times they were leading themselves.
Now filling the streets with endless refurb designs in all area's of activity - by lack of design - maybe Tim Cook' priority but not ours.
Now even the 10th anniversary flagship (yes if rumors are true but they are all aligned) has the same 5 year old iPhone 6 casing with a few sharper edges. That's just ludicrous.
The "don't like it...go buy something else" phrases can only come from a few imbeciles that don't understand to whom Apple owes all its wealth from.
Oh and if there is more in life than this - then may I suggest that Apple returns the money now invested in their overcaptialised shopping centers, ApplePark headquarters, Music services, radio stations, artists, selfdriving car-dreams, and other cross-subsidized activities that can't stand on their own.
Happy hiking.
