Hands-On With an iPhone 8 Dummy Model

I think all of these mockups are accurate, but have one glaring incorrection.

The front panel will be black for all phones. Why? Well the front panel doesn't really matter anymore, since it's all going to be a screen (compared to prior models). Additionally, it will hide all the cameras and sensors that make this new iPhone tick. Furthermore, we should expect the top "row" of the iPhone to usually be black, since it will still primarily be used for the status bar, akin to this:

I wish there was a “dummy” model of this black front with each of the colours above on the back. That is what it will look like to me. The curved cutout at the top also seems accurate as it matches the curves found everywhere in iOS 11. Apple gave everything in iOS 11 a rounded look for a reason and this is probably why.

I don't think or at least hope that the top bar won't have a background picture area so it doesn't look weird. Straight across at the top looks way more classy to me by using dark background around the top left and right indicators. I guess we won't know till we see a real one powered on.

I know it's a dummy but the dual camera looks really cheap and nasty (IMHO)-if the rumours of it being super expensive are true I'd definitely not go for one.

I have always had white phones but if Apple do release a white phone with that white notch and stainless steel sides then I will go for black. That white phone just doesn't look right to me

Really not sure why MacRumors keeps wasting our time with pure speculation and the equivalent of "fan art". A user-created design/concept/mock is NOT "news". Hard stop.

Was that a very useful lip on the Rear Bezel surround of the phone I saw the same depth as the camera case? If so, that could be a good way of avoiding rocking of the phone and further protecting the cameras and Glass Back, if it felt comfortable to hold in the hand?

I sincerely hope they don't introduce White bezels, and a White "Sensor notch" on the Front, or for that matter a Copper Gold colour. Gold, yes! Copper Gold, no! These features just doesn't look right in my opinion. If these details are accurate, which I hope they aren't, it will be a Black "iPhone 8" for me.

I don't like brown, but I might consider copper if the front bezel is black. There's something about copper that appeals to me more as a man—like it's handsome and classy without being ridiculous. The front must be black because otherwise that notch looks dumb. I thought the whole point of it was to seamlessly blend into the OLED display? I think Apple will make all of them black on the front, but they've also made some "interesting" design choices lately, so who knows.

Actually, this has more screen to body ratio than the S8. The S8 just looks that way because of the stupid curved “edges”. The reason Apple decided upon having some slight bezel around the edges is so that there’s less unintended touches when using the phone because they actually think about the design, which is more than how it looks. I’ve owned both an S7 Edge and S8 and they were horrible in actual use for the constant unintended touches I would make just by holding the damn thing comfortably. I’m glad Apple realises this. Oh, and don’t get me started on the bixby button which I would constantly press thinking it’s the volume button, and that awful finger print scanner placement...

So what about the other iPhone 8 renders, Fan Art and mock up's posted in the last few months? Should Macrumors not have reported those as well? I don't see how this is a "Waste" of time, at least according to you. Basically the video discusses the similarities of how the hardware is physically expected to be launched in a few weeks. It makes for an interesting discussion in the least. It qualifies for "News" on a rumored website, it just doesn't fit your narrative of what you want to read.

I like either the black or white front. I like all the colors i have seen so far. It's a unique looking phone. I like the notch. I hope to get one at some point. I plan to preorder but I don't expect a miraculous delivery time. I'm expecting many long weeks of waiting. Possibly months.

Funny how every Apple fan always owned a S7 Edge and S8, while their signature only shows Apple devices. I use the S8 every day and never have problems with unintended touches, just disable that annoying Edge feature.

Eh just let him go. I normally just skip the articles that don't interest me. What's your favorite rumored feature so far? I am excited about an edge to edge OLED display that's flat and the facial ID system. If possible I'm going to register different saves of my face looking different ways. Before Coffee, After Coffee, lol. I look like a totally different person before and after my morning caffeine.

Interesting I guess. Is it worth what could be 1k to 1.2k? Who knows, especially if it drops touch ID for facial recognition.

I would argue that Apple could put an even higher price on it and they would sell millions and millions. Most Apple customers are pretty wealthy and they will pay an astronomical price to own this phone. For the ones who can't afford it they will still offer the lower priced 7s and 7s Plus.

It’s amazing how much smaller the body is than the 7+ but the screen is larger. Looking forward to picking one up.

Ok that thing looks pretty ugly to be honest... not that I think the 6/7 is much better but I hope that's just because this is a dummy model.

I'm more interested in the black. I hope it comes in jet black and blends in much better.

What's your favorite rumored feature so far? I am excited about an edge to edge OLED display that's flat and the facial ID system. If possible I'm going to register different saves of my face looking different ways. Before Coffee, After Coffee, lol. I look like a totally different person before and after my morning caffeine.

I don't necessarily have a favorite feature that I am most looking forward to. I think it's a combination of all the technology and the physical changes to take place. If I had to choose one hardware feature, it's likely going to be the OLED display and the revamped Siri embedded in iOS. It's more less about the experience when I first get hands-on with the iPhone versus reading what rumors are likely to indicate. But what excites me even more over the iPhone, is the actual Keynote itself.
