Let's face it. For some people all this conjecture and theorising is ultimately academic. For them a cardboard phone with a space grey paint job would have them swooning so long as 'that' logo is on the front. It's a phone at the end of the day and life will go on afterwards. I hope. But sometimes it's best to take a step back and see the dangers of blinkered brand loyalty and watch this scarily premonitional sketch spoofing the concept ....

While the dummy looks close to what actual iPhone may look like but that top notch looks ugly with white front, Atleast it should be black so it blend in with display better.
Do you not understand there are other people in the world who would prefer a white face? Not trying to be rude but you don't need to type the same comment on every article.

We get it, you and infiniverse don't like white.

I’m not convinced about the white front. I have a feeling all fronts are going to be black now since there’s next to no bezel and just the notch for the camera/sensors. Black would make it blend in when the device is off.
So white was better looking on a phone with big bezels? No, apple will most likely still release a white front model. I'm not sure why people think they won't. There has been no information that claims there will only be a black face option.

"Black would make it blend in when the device is off."- yep, that has been the case since the beginning of white faced iPhones, yet apple still uses them.

Same here. However, given Tim Cook's cluelessness, I wouldn't be surprised if the rumors of that ugly cutout (and the illogical rounded edges of the display, and the illogical lack of Touch ID) are true. After all, this is a man who approved of eliminating the 3.5 mm headphone jack.
Well, Steve jobs released a phone that you couldn't hold or all signal was lost.

Everyone quickly forgot all of apples shortcomings, when Steve was in charge, the moment he died. Everything wrong with apple now and forever is Tim Cooks fault.

There are legitimate reasons for the removal of the 3.5mm jack and we don't know if the new model will even lack the Touch ID sensor like you claim.

Just unwad your panties until September, then don't buy if it's not what you want.

Just a crazy thought, but if the front is white, it wouldn't have to interfere with/stick out on an active display, where the firmware could know it's a white phone and therefore make the surrounding status bar area white with black text/graphics. Granted, things like brightness, Nightshift and True Tone would have some impact on it, but still potentially less distracting than white with black status areas.

I will get this one instead of the 7S+ if the entire screen is usable to view video, web pages, etc. If it has permanent "functions" area taking up space at the bottom then I'll just get 7S+. I won't go smaller than the 7+ usable screen size.

It would be great to see if this was just a mockup and not the actual phone. Maybe they are fooling us all and this is not the actual device? lol, can't wait for the presentation

I actually have no objection to Tim, I’ve enjoyed my Apple products just as much since 2011 (how time flies) as I did prior to then. It’s not as if one single person at Apple is responsible for every aspect of a product.

As you say, it’s not as if Steve was without fault, although at least he never released a !#$%¥ mouse you can’t use while it’s charging, no don’t get me started on that one :D

Yeah the lightning port should've been on the front of the Magic Mouse 2, I agree with that, but I don't think that was oversight, I think there is most likely a valid reason. That would have been the device to put inductive charging in, imo. Charging mouse pad(?), take my money.

Nooooooo, why is the phone even bigger?

iPhone 7 already the max size for me, wouldn't the benefit over "edgeless" be that you can make a more compact phone but keep the same screen size.

I'm out, I don't want an even bigger phone.

Looking at the apparent mock up model, I would suggest you go and handle an S8 to get a good idea of its size in your hand as that seems to be the same. They seem to think though that bezeless means the biggest screens they can think off, if this phone had an 5.3" screen it would be the same size or smaller then the 7, but I guess you wouldn't get the dual cameras then?
Hmm I don't know, seeing how much the S8 costs now, it will be half the cost of this iPhone 8 potentially, and yet have a more advanced screen...

You and me both! This has to make women fall in love with me before I'd purchase it.

what I would find quite hilarious would be if Apple were just trolling everyone with that notch at the top this whole time...
Keynote begins in 3...2...1...

Agree.
Independent of body color, I would like to see Apple make all faces the same across all devices: black.
Optically, this would present a much better sense (smoke & mirror) of a true edge-to-edge screen, as opposed to the white (or other color) that would actually draw unnecessary attention to the hanging Chad - which I'm not sure is the best idea. My ¢2.

The 7s is supposed to look the same (glass back and stainless steel band). I'm just going to save some money and get a 7s. I didn't expect it to look so good.

Lol, they call this bezel-less? Design of the Galaxy S8 looks much better.
Huge Apple / iPhone fan here, but I have to agree with this. If this dummy model is real, the front of this phone doesn't look nearly as nice as the Samsung that has a "true" edge-to-edge display. Looking at these dummy models, the bezel looks - subjectively - every bit as wide as on my iPhone 7 Plus. That's disappointing, to me.

Now, that’s a good idea. And the kind of well planned, logical thinking that would have the exec’s eying you suspiciously :p

And I agree it wouldn’t have been oversight. They probably saved $0.002 on each by having it the way they do. That’s a whole lot of celebrity endorsements when you’re dealing in millions.

This is a 5.8" phone. Not sure what you are thinking? They aren't making this phone in regular 4.7" model....
If you want the same size exactly get the 7s model. This is meant as a plus size replacement that is basically the same size as the 4.7" model.

I don’t know, I’d rather have the more symmetrical design of the iPhone, but that’s just my preference. At the end of the day though I don’t really care too much so long as everything fits on screen and I’m pretty sure that’s going to be ok on any device these days.
Though while we’re on the subject and I do actually think the S8 is a purdy phone, the Samsung doesn’t technically have a “true” edge-to-edge display. Side to side maybe, but certainly not edge to edge.

Well, an edge to an edge maybe, I’d give you that. But true edge-to-edge does make it sound like all edges. Unless that would be edge-to-edge-to-edge-to-edge. But that’s why Samsung’s un-box your phone ads annoy me, I still see a box round there, even if two of the sides are teeny tiny. I think I need coffee :D

Looks kinda fugly.
  • Was rather hoping they'd managed to wrap the edges by now.
  • The clear separation of screen and camera area makes it look like a cheap device
  • All those camera components (which could have been masked) make it look like a nasty spider
  • Maybe it's the dummy but the lighter cases vs black screen without a border looks too messy around the edge

I was actually planning on a different colour from black but that Copper or whatever Apple's labelling it is not my cup of tea

I ABSOLUTELY agree...the wrap/bezel-less effect of the S8 is stunning. These side bezels in the mockup are a big, fat, fail. They're essentially as big as the current phone!
