It is pretty terrible, tbh. Just tried it out. It's very glitchy and it doesn't even use the microphone so you can't hear yourself sing, it just terribly muffles the vocals. not what I expected.
Sing Louder! 🎤🎶

And your ears can’t hear you sing? Why would you need a microphone anyway?

I think that is more of a licensing issue — I don’t think Apple has access to the original tracks, and it is doubtful most artists would want that.
Well yeah. Apple would not have access to the original mixes. Can you imagine Led Zeplin handing over the music/backing track of Stairway to Heaven?

By isolating and reducing the voice track, it’s bound to have some errors in it. People who are critical of their attempt obviously will never be pleased with anything.

One of the best features about Apple Music is lyrics. Now with sing, I don’t know why they didn’t give the ability to follow along with live lyrics to songs that are in the background. Siri has the ability to listen to music and could easily sync lyrics to music that’s playing in the background. This would give users the ability to follow along on their devices without any audio playing on their device. Imagine having that ability while in a store and you wanted to know the lyrics in real time.

I want the vocals completely absent. I think that this is a good first iteration, but the lack of option of ZERO vocals is somewhat frustrating.

Get some song’s master tracks with instrumentals with no vocals, especially high profile artists like Taylor Swift, isolate the vocals, have a ‘remove all vocals entirely’ for big artists that let the instrumental and vic tracks be uploaded to Apple Music as well be layered to do the vocal reduction, not the generic machine learning /signal processing that is inside this iteration of ‘Apple sing’.

Why would I WANT to remove the vocals to sing a long with a song by myself? The reason you'd remove the vocals to sing on top of a song IS karaoke.
I really don't understand why you would want a microphone input into your Music App at all. It makes zero sense. It's not like it's going to merge the music and your voice together. Karaoke is all about singing the words over the music, and that's what this does. Like I said, try the hairbrush method. Works for lots of people.

Its unexpected, integrated and completely free. And very fun. Why the hate?

It's not hate, it's a karaoke app for Pete's sake. It's not anything groundbreaking or useful on a daily basis. I'm sure there are people that will play Karaoke with this once or twice but talking about it like it's some new cool feature that everyone will enjoy is a bit ludicrous.

That's an exaggeration. No-one has even come close to suggesting that.

I would have preferred they concentrate on improving Siri... but hey, this works too I guess?
you know that apple music and Siri a 2 completely different Work Teams. right? so it doesn't make sense to talk about them as if everyone at apple works on the same thing.

So…. In your world the fact that they’d allocate a team to build karaoke… over a core technology… is just fine. Right? Who cares about automation as long as I can tune out the vocals on my music. Or do you not understand how resource allocation works with in a company?

For many, a good day can't be had unless it's prefaced with a good whine.

seems like DJ Ai which might explain why it's not on older apple tv. but also dj ai looks a lot better.

Why is this feature being made such a big deal? You would think with the coverage of this feature that it was some ground breaking iOS feature. It's a feature that you can literally get from an app at any time. I think we've heard all we need to hear about this one moving forward.
The only criticisms I've heard is that Apple should've/could've implemented this feature years ago. Otherwise, it kind of is a big deal just because it supports millions of songs natively in the Apple Music catalog. I do not know how the karaoke apps functioned but I'm guessing the quality, lyrics, ease of use and song support are hit and miss depending upon the app. I'll take a unified solution from Apple anyway.
