The only criticisms I've heard is that Apple should've/could've implemented this feature years ago. Otherwise, it kind of is a big deal just because it supports millions of songs natively in the Apple Music catalog. I do not know how the karaoke apps functioned but I'm guessing the quality, lyrics, ease of use and song support are hit and miss depending upon the app. I'll take a unified solution from Apple anyway.
Lol a solution? I wasn’t aware that a karaoke problem existed. But whatever, it’s a useless feature that people will use once or twice and it won’t ever be heard from again.

It works…but to be clear, lyrics were never available on CarPlay.

I have always mounted my phone next to my screen (vent mount) and liked having music control on my phone so I can have full Maps view on the CarPlay screen.

The lyrics view works on the phone as well as the new Sing mic control so the song plays through CarPlay with the reduced vocal volume.
So...no, it doesn't really work. CarPlay can't stop the audio from sounding the way it does when you toggle sing mode on the iPhone. But it won't let you initiate it, nor display the lyrics, inline with Apple's nerfing of CarPlay to avoid lawsuits.

This app is being misinterpreted as a Karaoke app. There is (currently) not microphone feature. It's called "Sing" and the logo mistakenly has a microphone, but all it is doing is giving you vocal level control and allowing you to feel like the lead singer. There was a "duet" feature listed as well, but all that is going to do is highlight the lyrics in different colors.

As it exists now, it is NOT going to be a karaoke game changer. Your best bet to use this in karaoke format will be on the current Apple TV and a mixer to add microphones yourself.

It’s an interesting feature, sure, but seems like frivolous padding for Apple’s services.

Where’s Apple Music Classical, which was supposed to come at the beginning of the year? Why do we not have a true Handoff experience or a platform similar to Spotify Connect? Where are collaborative playlists? Where is a better integrated and more robust Shazam experience?

There are so many things that are universally more beneficial to the Apple Music experience that are missing. Things that would help make the service an even more attractive offering to its rivals. Siri playlists, Spatial Audio, and Lossless were already a great step towards that. This feels like relatively nothing in comparison.

It’s a clever and engaging feature, if anything it takes out the need of doing it with YouTube, probably a big chunk of views, bet it will have ads one day

You seem to have pretty strong feelings about a useless feature that will be used once or twice and won't ever be heard from again...

I'm not sure if I could disagree with this more.

It IS a karaoke feature. And Apple has made it so you can use the REAL song and adjust the vocal volume of the original singer. AND it works on newer Apple TV's....how long do you think it will be before the "AppleMic" is introduced that wirelessly works through Apple TV with voice effect choices like reverb levels??

For now, just the ability to sing along without mic is fun!

You're right. I have strong feelings about Apple releasing useless features when they have an OS that has been riddled with bugs since it was released.

Karaoke market was over $6 billion in 2021. The entire streaming music market is only about $13 billion. "Useless feature" is an opinion that means nothing to millions of users...and Apple.

A great measure of how useless this is will be how much of a market share that Apple Music gains as a result of this feature. It won't be in any way significant.

Not sure why Apple doesn't just allow the iPhone to function as a karaoke mic. Users are already holding the iPhone with lyrics right by their mouth anyway. They could easily create a omni directional mic pattern using all the mics on the phone and airplay that stream to AppleTV connected to TV speakers. I guess this was more of a test to gauge user engagement with updates to come.

Why do you care so much? If it’s useless to you, don't use it. Other people will find it fantastic. What is so bad about a free feature that some will use and others won’t.

And I have zero problems with iOS16, iPadOS16 and Ventura. Okay, I have 1 only. Sometimes my sudoku app crashes, but thats probably a lack of update from the app, not iPadOS16. I think people are making too much of minor issues. Maybe it’s the user, maybe it’s not. But what bugs are you personally experiencing?

Two things:
- How does one mic their voice when the song is playing on HomePods or AirPods?
- It looks like there’s no way to change the song key, sadly. Hopefully in a future update.
That would require actual Karaoke software that requires licensed tracks in the first place.... and those tracks are built to be adjusted that way and change tempo, key, etc. You'll never see that here. It would cost Apple a fortune, and this feature never removes the vocal just turns it down (and sounds kind of bad when they do).

It also doesn't pose much threat in regards to running a line out to make recordings.

Alright Apple, DMG35 thinks it's useless. Might as well scrap it. Screw what anyone else thinks!

Lol we can be done here. There is zero to gain from this type of back and forth.

When someone adds a feature, or they at least try to change something for the better, whilst we can acknowledge the mistakes, and fix them, but it’s better to look at what is trying to be achieved and work on that. Remember, you catch more ants with honey than you do with vinegar.

But if it’s not for you, then it’s not for you.

Not withstanding, you said ios16 had lots of bugs that needed fixing. Nice blanket statement, but without examples.…. But you did mention there would be nothing gained. I assume you mean you have nothing to support your claim. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I don't have the time nor the care to give you examples because all you have to do is go over to the iOS 16 thread and you'll see a massive amount of issues that are present in the OS.

Thanks. I didn’t think you had any examples.

The amount of snark when apple does something fun amazes me. If you don't like it or think it is stupid don't use it. smh...
The amount of cope when Apple wastes resources on forgettable “features” instead of fixing long standing bugs like flakey Siri equally amazes me.

They are not mutually exclusive, and I don’t think these features are being handled by the same department either.
