Could anyone, who upgraded from 7plus,
tell me, if it is worth to upgrade? I am thinking to buy as a present for my lady.
She is happy with her 7plus, but she is a heavy user and takes tons of pictures. Do you think is it worth the pile a money it costs? I do not have a big budget so I need to think carefully

I was also able to just walk into T-Mobile and pick one up. Granted, they only had the gold color available.

I find the phone both beautiful and huge. I had both the iPhone X (which I loved) and iPhone 7 Plus, but before that and this just feels BIG. It’s most definitely a two-handed phone.

Nonetheless, I love it! Let’s see where I am in 3 months with it.

I’ll say this: the iPhone 7 Plus is an amazing device and by no means outdated. The processor was so fast when it launched it has years of headroom.

My wife’s iPhone 7 Plus was still working great until I gave her my X today and traded in the 7 Plus for the Max (it was previously mine).

However, if I didn’t have T-Mobile and Jump!, I would probably still be rocking the iPhone 7 right now. The iPhone 7 was the biggest leap in internal hardware Apple had had maybe ever and should be a solid phone for another year or two.

Again, I would not have dropped over $1K on a phone if I didn’t have T-Mobile and a $300 buy-back credit for my iPhone 7 Plus. So take your wife to the store and let her play with it. If she loves it, get it for her, but it certainly isn’t a must have. Also, consider waiting out for the iPhone Xr. It’s a bigger display than the iPhone 7 Plus at the same resolution with better colors, better internals, better camera and much cheaper than the Max!

Didn't read the whole thread, but anyone who went from X to Xs Max care to comment on differences other than "the Max is bigger?"

I bought the Xs, but am pondering the Max and what's holding me back is the weight, honestly. I rather enjoyed having the Plus in previous years (I upgrade yearly, so I had a Plus for 3 years) but my wrist didn't miss the extra weight and the X last year gave me pretty much the same amount of screen as the Plus had before.

Soo... thoughts?

That's exactly what I'm thinking, I haven't follow this year's features that much, but before, the Plus had a really unique feature that made it a no brainer, but with the Max I'm not even considering changing my X, I'll go tomorrow and check it in person, but I think the X hit the sweet spot for size, at least for me, I'll see if I am right tomorrow.
I wish the X was a tad wider. It could be shorter too but I don’t see that happening. I just wish it was a smidge wider. That’s what I miss most about the Plus phones. Wider screen for reading emails, web pages and for typing. Keyboard was more spread with slightly larger keys.

Ordered a XS as I was on the Apple trade is plan. Got to the store, saw the Max and changed the Oder. The Max is amazing.

Several people at work asked if they could hold it and all said they were gettting the Max.

This is Just my method, but I always use my 10W iPad charger. It’s sufficient for my needs.

Not everyone has one at hand. So it’s either ultra low charging or buy a charger that is faster.

Throw away the included charger and get one of the better Qi Wireless chargers out there. Fast and easy... you'll probably never go back to plug-in Lightning wire charging again.

I’ll probably get the Logitech one sold only at Apple.

Previous 7 plus owner here. Received the Max today, like others I find the phone more comfortable to handle than the 7 plus, much more so. I wouldn't recommend it to people with small hands (or people who prefer small phones period), but this feels a lot more ergonomic.

It probably helps that the phone feels faster and the screen is more responsive. Part of comfort with the phone is not just carrying it around, but how much effort is required to do routine things, no matter how minor. The gestures on the Max just seem to glide, and Face ID (something I was skeptical about) has been super speedy in all types of light.

As everyone has noted, the screen is lovely, and though I have yet to really stress test the camera, it's a good upgrade over the 7 plus. My 7 plus was a bit cooler in terms of color temperature, so the warmth of the Max screen is a small adjustment. I prefer to watch lengthy videos on a big screen like my OLED TV or the iPad Pro, but I'll definitely enjoy watching shorter YouTube videos and even half hour Netflix/Hulu shows on the Max, not only because of the screen but because the speakers have more dimensionality and are louder. It's a really nice experience.

One thing that was really painful on the 7plus was running the Apple Podcast app (yes, I tried to switch to Overcast, but for a number of reasons stuck with the Apple app, poor as it was), especially simultaneously with a mapping app and CarPlay. If I didn't give the podcast app time to load before driving, it would just stutter or crash, and CarPlay would sometimes not connect with the 7 plus. (often, it was just faster to connect via Bluetooth). Even when a podcast played properly, the screen wouldn't show the play/pause controls but just a queue of podcasts -- playback had to be controlled via the phone.

(All the above assumed that CarPlay wouldn't automatically play the first song in your Apple Music library at ear-splitting volume, instead of the podcast you wanted...yup, that "feature", which would also kick in at random times)

Tonight, I connected the Max to my VW unit via CarPlay while running a quick errand, and BOOM -- automatic connection, podcast played immediately. Started up Maps, zero problems coexisting with other apps running while driving. Navigating the podcast via CarPlay, super smooth. Can't wait for Waze to be available via CarPlay soon.

Everything else has been a pleasure so far with the Max -- apps launch faster, reading on iBooks/Kindle and dedicated apps like the New Yorker have been great. I agree with people who say smartphones have matured to the point that going from the 7plus to an Xs Max is an iterative upgrade functionality-wise, compared to say, going from the 4 to the 6 or 7. But it's a strong iterative upgrade, and early on, I'm happy.

I am being asked to upgrade from a 6s and 7. The reviews seem underwhelming. The Max seems like good hardware with bad software given the poor use of screen real estate - hopefully that changes.

I’m curious how do people claim that the max is easier to handle than the 7 or 8 plus when they are identical in dimension?

My thoughts are apart from size is camera is certainly improved. Portrait mode is great...pictures are certainly coming out great.

Ram management is much improved. No longer will apps refresh all the time like with the x.

A youtube video which I left at 02.00am and at 06.20am it is still holding the same place...while to many not a big deal it's nice to see this improve with that extra RAM.

I’m on a two year upgrade cycle and must say I’m loving the max. Difficult to see how phones can develop past level of where that are now at

I have a Max. Wife has the XS. It really is just bigger. Same camera, same homescreen. A very small handful of apps have landscape stuff on the Max (mail, messages) but it is just a bigger XS.

I think I read that the XR is a lower resolution (same as the regular 7/8) than the 7 plus which is the same as my 8 plus full HD. Correct me if I am wrong.

The screen just sucks. Colors change when even viewing the screen just a little bit off angle. Compared it to the screen of an iPhone 8, which is way better.

Yeah... Same thing on my X with OLED screen. My 6+ LCD screen is much better.

“The A12 processor is 15 percent faster than the A11, which isn't super noticeable, but it does result in much better battery life. iPhone XS Max lasts an hour and a half longer than the iPhone X.”

That’s not a fair comparison - the max has a much larger battery and that’s why it lasts a bit longer.

Of course it’s a fair comparison. You can’t buy an X with a bigger battery.

I'm pondering the idea of selling my galaxy S9+ and buying a Max.
I only left iPhone earlier in the year due to wanting a nice full screen device that was big.

I kinda miss iOS too. It's just a pitty that the OS has just made everything bigger visually!
