Hands-On With Apple's New Glass-Backed iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus

So a bezel at the top and bottom actually give it more a streamlined appearance in use. With the bezel-less top and bottom they will come and go depending on what's displayed on the screen?

That's disappointing. I guess you get used to it after awhile, though.

So what is the benefit we get for a heavier and thicker iPhone? Just a different (glass) backing? They couldn’t put the 8 internals into a 7 case? Curious.

I want an iPhone SE update with latest processors and fast charging. Fast charging (not wireless charging) is about the only feature I care about.

The new phones, all of them, are too big/heavy -- the 8 is heavier than the 7 (which had tried to improve on the 6s)
5.22 vs 4.87 vs 5.04.
Maybe in the spring they'll update the SE. Maybe I'm crazy but I think they charge plenty fast as is.

Incredible how the bezels on these phones instantly look dated next to the iPhone X.

Disappointed with the 8 and 8+. Same old ****! Will be getting the X. Out with the old in with the new!

How incredibly underwhelming. I've had every iPhone since the 3 until the 7 and really struggling to find a reason to stay with the iPhone now. Actually, that's a lie, nothing compares to iOS and I don't suppose it ever will, but the days of Apple creating the best iPhone are long gone, IMHO. If only these companies that copy Apple could make a decent OS...

Wonder what they'll call the phones next year? The iPhone 9 and 11? But then the year after that the iPhone 9 couldn't be followed by an iPhone 10 because that's already out. Hmmm...

So does this mean I can crack the glass on the front and the back now? What happens if the glass cracks on the back? This just seems like more of a risk for damage now.

I still think the S8 and Note 8 have a better and more attractive design then the iPhone X, but seriously this iPhone 8 looks about 5 years out of date. The only reason they will sell any is because the X will be so hard to get. This is going to be a forgotten product and only purchased by those who either cannot afford an iPhone X, will not consider an Android phone, or cannot find an iPhone X to purchase.

Besides wireless charging, did anything really change with the iPhone 8? It seems really disappointing...
Not really, it shares much of the same hardware inside and for me its the one I'm interested in, not just because it will be in store next week and the price. Only disappointments for me are a) no 128Gb option and b) now twin lens camera in the smaller model. I've lived with just 64Gb for the last 4 years on my 5s so I'll be forced into the 256Gb and here in AU with Apple Care that a $2000AU phone!

At least this phone will unlock when you want it to.

But I am not buying yesterdays tech. Sorry! Another hard pass. I was set to spend LOADS of money this time but Apple somehow teased me with the goodies and then snatched them away.

It's just boring to see the same shape now year after year. My 4th phone with the same shape. So magical. I am excited (I guess) for more speed and etc., but they could have changed it up a little more than a new back side.

Do any of the new iPhones have 120 MHz like the new iPad Pro's.

This is truly the biggest reason why I'm actually getting a iPhone 7 now instead of any of the new ones, because they didn't implement the ProMotion technology from the iPads. I have the iPad 10.5 and that is really great, makes everything really smooth.

Yeah, imagine going back to 2014 in a time machine if you had one and showing this to someone who just witnessed the release of the iPhone 6. That person and anyone else you show the iPhone 8 would probably say no way, that has to be the iPhone 6s.
