I can see why they replaced it. And Apple was silent. Ugh.The 29W charger (which was replaced with the 30 at some point), uses a particular voltage that doesn't work well with some chargers. I have the same one and I won't work with my Apple Watch charger.
Only 2 months ago everyone was complaining that you couldn’t use your phone while it was on a wireless charger...The fact when you pick up your phone it brings up the charger and chargers slower means it isn’t worth it
In a product org like Apple, engineers don’t get to just make stuff up. They build according to the requirements and nothing more. They can be as creative as they want within the confines of what the business demands. The complete product to function requires a power brick and a lightning cable of sorts. So maybe Apple is banking you’ll just use that extra cable you have on the night stand...
it really seems at apple they built their use cases on a day in the life of a certain type of person...which they’re deriving all their business criteria from, and then turning into requirements, which engineers are just following blindly.
I sold my nomad wireless base chargerMy older Nomad watch/iphone Pod Pro charger still works perfectly and is just as convenient, possibly more so. Sad they no longer make it. For now, this overpriced Apple solution is definitely a hard pass.
Your hot take is absolutely ridiculous.
this wasn’t a very well thought out product.
Not off to a good start. I said I'm having an issue with my MagSafe Duo and they sent me to a Mac specialist...

They basically said they can try to send it out to get replaced or I can schedule a Genius Bar appointment next week. And I was like I might as well just return it and buy a new one. But the issue seems like it’s with the 29w adapter, so I’m seeing if that can be replaced. Can you post an update? I’m curious what they say - I have a 29w adapter and waiting for the duo charger to arrive tomorrow.
Update, I got back on the text chat with apple asking if they can replace the adapter and they’re pretty adamant about me bringing it in to be looked at before getting a replacement. Annoying. Thanks for the update! I’d recommend that every 29w adapter owner buying this complain to Apple if it’s an issue isolated to the charger. This is going to be frustrating!
don’t waste your time.Update, I got back on the text chat with apple asking if they can replace the adapter and they’re pretty adamant about me bringing it in to be looked at before getting a replacement. Annoying.
Well I’d like to get the adapter replaced, that was literally being sold until last year for what it’s worth. I wouldn’t have as big of an issue if they included an adapter in the box, but Apple decided to go down this path.don’t waste your time.
The 29W adapter does not work properly with this product, mainly because it has an old standard of voltage, or something like that.
Instead of wasting your time with Apple support, just use a different adapter.
Yeah this is an odd product from Apple, and expensive even for them. More importantly I feel like wireless technology is not matured yet, so at 129 dollars I really question the longevity of this. Will the iPhone 13 have a 'faster' wireless charger available? Will the rumored newly designed watch next Fall support the same charger? Too many questions to commit when there are literally similar products available for 30 bucks.
Just received mine today and discovered same thing. Would charge one device only (whichever was placed first) with the Apple 29w adapter, but charges both just fine with my iPad’s 18w adapter.PSA: I haven’t been able to get MagSafe charging working at all with Apple’s own 29w power adapter. But a 18w Anker one I have works just fine.
I have a genius appointment on Monday. I'm hoping they can just swap it out with the 30w adapter. Their website very clearly says "27W or higher USB-C Power Adapter (sold separately) for faster wireless charging up to 14W".Just received mine today and discovered same thing. Would charge one device only (whichever was placed first) with the Apple 29w adapter, but charges both just fine with my iPad’s 18w adapter.
Weird.
