it picks up the charger when you pick your phone is stupid. Should have less metal inside the charger so the phone doesn't pick it up. this will be used on a desk so no need for such a strong magnet like the magsafe puck.

The complete product to function requires a power brick and a lightning cable of sorts. So maybe Apple is banking you’ll just use that extra cable you have on the night stand...

it really seems at apple they built their use cases on a day in the life of a certain type of person...which they’re deriving all their business criteria from, and then turning into requirements, which engineers are just following blindly.

In a product org like Apple, engineers don’t get to just make stuff up. They build according to the requirements and nothing more. They can be as creative as they want within the confines of what the business demands.

My older Nomad watch/iphone Pod Pro charger still works perfectly and is just as convenient, possibly more so. Sad they no longer make it. For now, this overpriced Apple solution is definitely a hard pass.
I sold my nomad wireless base charger
For $60 which covers almost 1/2 the cost of the Apple charger. Worth it to me knowing I’ll never need to worry about compatibility issues with my iPhone and Apple Watch.

Your hot take is absolutely ridiculous.

this wasn’t a very well thought out product.

what, because you spent all of 5 minutes thinking about what this product should be?

maybe spend a little more time figuring out how a product is designed and produced and you'll come to the same conclusion. you can't just say "oh include a brick charger and reduce the price to $80". that's not how it works.

“A standalone Apple Watch charging puck is $29 and a MagSafe Charger is $39 for a total of $68, but Apple is charging close to twice that to connect them together.”

You forgot to add the 2x Power adapters needed for the above setup. At $19 each it makes it $106.

You’re paying $23 for the convenience of carrying one power adapter and one cable.

I don’t travel so I don’t need this. But if I did. I’d pay $23 for that benefit.

Love our Duo Charger. It's slick and feels solid. I love the one cable, simplified look on a bedside table. Paired it with a 30W USB-C adapter for faster charging and couldn't be happier!

Can you post an update? I’m curious what they say - I have a 29w adapter and waiting for the duo charger to arrive tomorrow.
They basically said they can try to send it out to get replaced or I can schedule a Genius Bar appointment next week. And I was like I might as well just return it and buy a new one. But the issue seems like it’s with the 29w adapter, so I’m seeing if that can be replaced.

I would imagine there are a lot of customers with 29w adapters that will have this issue, so let’s see if apple takes any action to address this.

So it's a wireless charger that doesn't come with an actual charging adapter.

Hey, here is the car you bought. Oh sorry, it doesn't actually come with the wheels attached. That's separate.

Thanks for the update! I’d recommend that every 29w adapter owner buying this complain to Apple if it’s an issue isolated to the charger. This is going to be frustrating!

Update, I got back on the text chat with apple asking if they can replace the adapter and they’re pretty adamant about me bringing it in to be looked at before getting a replacement. Annoying.

don’t waste your time.
The 29W adapter does not work properly with this product, mainly because it has an old standard of voltage, or something like that.
Instead of wasting your time with Apple support, just use a different adapter.

Well I’d like to get the adapter replaced, that was literally being sold until last year for what it’s worth. I wouldn’t have as big of an issue if they included an adapter in the box, but Apple decided to go down this path.

Apple's own website said you get 14W charging with 27W or higher power adapters. They had no caveats or anything.

Yeah this is an odd product from Apple, and expensive even for them. More importantly I feel like wireless technology is not matured yet, so at 129 dollars I really question the longevity of this. Will the iPhone 13 have a 'faster' wireless charger available? Will the rumored newly designed watch next Fall support the same charger? Too many questions to commit when there are literally similar products available for 30 bucks.

Exactly this.. iPhone 13 could come with Magsafe 2.0 with different magnets alignment, more features like data transfer, and most likely faster charging at probably 18 or 24watts?

Even worse, it would be extremely limited for older iPhones at that time to just basic 5 - 10watts charging. I love the concept but Apple needs to give assurance that they will support the same standard for years?

I look at this as a nice travel charging option. But for $160?? Yikes. Makes me wonder how much they were gonna price AirPower for if two chargers smacked together is that much

Just make it iPhone and watch charging without megnetic part. I am sure 3rd party mag safe chargers will be at lower price point.

PSA: I haven’t been able to get MagSafe charging working at all with Apple’s own 29w power adapter. But a 18w Anker one I have works just fine.
Just received mine today and discovered same thing. Would charge one device only (whichever was placed first) with the Apple 29w adapter, but charges both just fine with my iPad’s 18w adapter.

Weird.

Not worried about it, though. Charges while I sleep, so speed doesn’t interest me. And I have an iPhone 11 Pro, which I think is limited to 7W wireless charging anyway.

I have a genius appointment on Monday. I'm hoping they can just swap it out with the 30w adapter. Their website very clearly says "27W or higher USB-C Power Adapter (sold separately) for faster wireless charging up to 14W".
