Apple's GUI continues to be complex with hidden menus, complex taps, and more...
its a very long way from the Apple that used to have a 1 button mouse to make even the technologically illiterate able to use their computers.

That being said, I do encourage competition, but in this case I doubt that Apple Maps provide anything that Google does not provide the same or better so why use it? Its like using Bing when Google search exists.

if the route is correct - these apps are great - but sometimes I find the route proposed unworkable (for example last week the road was closed for a marathon). And neither Apple, nor Google (iOS) maps let me change the route to a parallel street. This is basic mapping == fail.

I ask where the nearest hospital is and I am directed to a nursing home. I work at a hospital so I know where they all are IN MY CITY (pop. 1.2 million) but how useless is this for someone who isn't from here. In an emergency it's pretty useless. In fact, day to day it is inaccurate.

That has been my biggest issue with Apple Maps. Search. Try it every upgrade and it still has major issues.
Had the paramedics over and they took the wife to the ER. Had my iPad - whipped open maps and dropped in the name as given to me by the para's. Apple Maps (iOS7) directed me to an ER almost 600 miles away. Opened Google Maps on my phone and it directed me to the correct ER.
With IOS 8, I once again tried Apple Maps (AM). Search for "Hospital". The nearest location was a nurses uniform company. The next was a medical shipping warehouse. The first "Hospital" on the list was number 6.
Just this morning (and a fine one it is), I opened AM (iOS 9), allowed it's use of locations and typed in "Hospital" and selected the first listed item. Please see below for the result. o_O

WTF?!? Never mind the fact I haven't been to Minn. in a couple of decades. This is behavior I never see in Google Maps or Waze or ...

Apple Maps. I just don't, can't, trust it. :(

And Apple Maps is just as accurate.

That depends on your location and search.
Where it is accurate, AM is good. The number of places is far less than GM.
Search - that is a whole other ball game and in AM it is poor.

And its still the same inaccurate garbage. Thank god I can technically "delete" it in iOS 10 along with the other 75% of the useless apps. Sucks that I can't make certain apps a default. That would've been great.

Maps would be really cool.....if the GPS on my iPhone 6 actually worked. But it hasn't been able to find a location for months and the 'Geniuses' at the Apple Store can't figure out why. Their solution was for me to buy another phone. I run 4 days a week and used my phone to track my data.

I couldn't justify replacing $750 phone because the GPS only lasted 18 months, so I bought a GPS watch instead.

I really think there is something with the IP 6. Keep seeing more and more reports of this. My GPS died about two weeks ago. Just stopped working completely. Now it barely connects to any wifi network. I will be in the room next to my router and it has one signal and then drops it. Bluetooth also works for about three feet and then drops. The geniuses were useless in my case also. Basically, their only advice is reset the phone (which didn't help), and then either pay $299 for repair or buy a new one. I'm still making payments on this stupid thing until September. Took it to an ifixandrepair store at the mall as one last ditch effort, but they couldn't do anything either.

I'm going to end up getting the Blu R1 HD, cheapest Android phone I could find that wasn't crap and just sign up for t-mobile acct until the new iphone arrives and I can get rid of my POS.

Apple Maps works fine in San Jose, the data are accurate and up to date. Outside the Realm things get spotty, and in areas like rural NM or OK the app can get you into real trouble. In one case it routed us on a "road" that was literally a wagon trail. Fortunately we had 4WD and enough gas (barely) to get out of that one. Mapping error Reports to Apple seem to be ignored.

Exactly, I am hoping Apple has improved search significantly as that is its weakest point in my opinion. Very annoying when top results end up in different states even with a POI with the exact name, that Apple Maps knows about, is only a few miles away.

Try a basic Nexus and Google FI (uses TMo and Sprint). Working really well.

YMMV. I've submitted several corrections over the years with details about the mapping error-including photographs; that have never been fixed.
They always get fixed in about 3 days' time for me. I've submitted numerous corrections over the years. Apple is incredibly responsive to them and always has been.

I suspect Jambalaya means that they will either be disallowed in the App Store or not allowed access to functionality (hardware).

Doubt that. The AppStore is full of competing software. Apple's business model thrives on it. Why would they kill the golden goose?

Ok update but they need to improve the actual maps as well in smaller cities/world. They seriously are lacking vs Google and tbh this update is a let the third parties improve our app.

Apple map isn't accurate. It almost lead me to someone's home.
Google maps did the same to me. I guess no one service is perfect but Apple Maps is definitely a viable option

Great, looking forward to it.

Haven't used Google maps on my phone in two years. Same on my desktop except for the few times I need street view.

Much prefer Apple Maps...
Ah, you just reminded me of something... Wasn't there a rumor that Apple was bringing Apple Maps to the web? I wonder what ever happened to that

Apple Map has been accurate for me here in the DC area. I often turn both Apple and Google maps on to see how both pan. Google is on top as it can accurately show you areas to avoid. Even if you're driving and can't avoid the area, theres that little flag note that tells you what the issue is, i.e. accident (+6min).

Apple Map hasn't gotten to that level as I can see yet but iOS10 is looking promising for it. Coming up to speed.

When I was in El Paso, I kept seeing the Apple Map car driving around.

I'm not sure which service Apple Maps is using (I heard they recently started incorporating Waze?) but in iOS 9 I would often get notices about faster routes and accidents coming up ahead.

When they first released Apple Maps - the really disasterous release which nearly caused me to miss my daughters graduation by sending me to the wrong street initially - they removed Google maps from the app store

Before iOS 7 Google Maps was the default app on iOS (meaning it was part of iOS). It was never in the AppStore. Google later released an app with navigation... Something they purposely withheld when it was the default iOS app.

When parking, Apple Maps has an awesome new feature that'll automatically remember your car location so you never forget where it is

Waze has had a feature like this for some time. It's solid for street parking but doesn't handle parking garages well. Looking forward to trying Apple's version

Nope its because people are lazy and don't want to bother looking in the App store for a better app that can't integrate with iOS due to Apples rules

Oh and my road still isn't on it even though I've lived there over 10 years
Both Apple Maps and Google Maps sucks because I don't use it.
I use Sygic Maps, you should use it too, because I use it.
Oh, and don't be lazy searching only for what huge corporations gives you, Sygic is amazing, again, because I use it.
How do I live with myself? o_O
