It seems as if no one else (except Apple) has any idea what good design is. Like zero idea.

I mean look at that hideousness.

Don't even get me started on how all other companies are fighting over Apple Notch™ like baboons and macaques, and can't for the love of god decide what it should look like.

I mean, are they morons or something?

It is actually the Essential PH-! Notch™ since Andy Ruben and Essential had it on a phone first.
t appears only Apple and Essential know how to build quality hardware with good hand feel.
Too little for too much, when it comes to the Pixel line.

I'm not an iPhone fan boy by any stretch of the imagination and have an Essential as my daily driver. The company issued me an iPhone that I almost never use.

Unless Essential comes out with a new phone next year, I'll be buying an iPhone X (something).

After the display color accuracy test is done, Google will release three more Pixels: "Not so Red", Kind of a Green", and "Almost Blue".

Come to think about it, it's not a cheaper phone, given the experience and quality one gets. It's just an iPhone wanna be.

I missed where they announced wanting TouchID under the screen. Do you have that quote or video?

"Apple can’t exactly brag about their design philosophy. The notch is the result of a compromised design (they wanted to have Touch ID under the screen) and don’t get me started on their battery cases or the way you charge the Pencil or Magic Mouse 2."

Is 4K60 really something people care about in the real world? Don't most people prefer to shoot 4K content at 24 or 30 fps?
There are quite a few people who want it and prefer to shoot in it. It is pretty much a requirement in a mirrorless camera for people to even consider it as having video capability.

I wonder what android fans are thinking about having a notch and a big chin !!

Get an Apple there’s no chin. :apple:

Google today announced its latest flagship smartphones, the Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3 XL, which are designed to compete with Apple's new iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max.

MacRumors was in attendance at Google's fall unveiling event and was able to get some hands-on time with the new devices, and we did a quick comparison to the iPhone XS Max.

The 5.5-inch Google Pixel 3, which has no notch, is similar in size to the 5.8-inch iPhone XS, while the 6.3-inch Pixel 3 XL is similar in size to the iPhone XS Max and takes some design cues from Apple's devices.

As we saw in leaked images and heard in rumors leading up to the Pixel 3 XL's debut, it has a deep notch on the front housing its front-facing camera system. The rest of the display isn't quite edge-to-edge due to a chin at the bottom that's missing from Apple's devices.

The Pixel 3 XL continues to use a single-lens 12-megapixel rear camera system, but Google has implemented an HDR+ mode that's similar to Apple's Smart HDR for combining multiple shots into one much better image. Dual 8-megapixel cameras are available on the front of the device, and Google touted a new group selfie feature with a wide-angle lens able to capture 184 percent more than the iPhone XS.

Inside, the new Pixel smartphones are equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chip, 4GB RAM, and up to 128GB of storage. The Pixel 3 offers a 2,915 mAh battery, while the XL model has a 3,430 mAh battery.

Google's Pixel 3 is priced at $799, while the Pixel 3 XL is priced at $899, making both devices more affordable than the iPhone XS and XS Max. The new devices are available for pre-order starting today ahead of an October 18 launch.

What do you think of the iPhone XS's latest competitor? Stay tuned to MacRumors because we'll have a more in-depth comparison video pitting the Google and Apple smartphones against one another next week.

So here’s the thing: the iPhone X has a far superior design when it comes to hardware. However, i believe that ios and its homescreen is in dire need of refresh as its ui is actually much more visually messy to me then that android homescreen. I believe ios has far better overall UX, but the homescreen is cluttered to hell

It’s amazing how low the bar is for Google. The media is giving it high marks for the most part. If Apple launched this, they’d have been crucified.

I see quite a few members commenting on how ‘hideous’ this new Pixel is, but the reality is, all the smart phones generally to me look the same. it Really is about the internal performance and software capabilities more than it is hardware these days. As much as I like the iPhone XS in terms of aesthetics, even that doesn’t mean that much to me, as it’s all about the iOS experience.

Dieter Bohn at The Verge: ‘Oh, and the notch on the Pixel 3 XL is not as egregious in person as it is in photos. Is it big? Yes, but it’s also totally not a problem for me.”

This is a 100% incremental update yet I see very few tech media making a big deal out of it like they do with Apple. There’s no outrage over the Pixel Slate having huge bezels and no headphone jack. There absolutely is a double standard when it comes to Google first party hardware.

I truly can’t wait until this notch craze is over. It’s ugly regardless of the phone brand - Apple and the Essential phone are the least ugly. I hope its seen in the same light as the mullet in the near future.

LOL, oh come on! Your bias is really showing. Be objective, please....
You don’t have to be biased to see that the new Pixel 3 XL is ugly.

Look, I know you’ve well established yourself on this site as a miserable little troll who inexplicably spends all day on here trashing Apple for some reason. You have fun with that. There’s no point in engaging you further.
