I don't understand why they just didn't make the control center sheet larger.
If it's too big then it would be hard to use with a single hand. But they could easily move the Night Shift button to the same row where Airplay resides and free up space for music controls...

Semantically it makes sense to take widgets out of the Notification Pane, but this presumably means you'll have to exit whatever app you're in to get to your widgets. I pull down Notifications all the time when I'm in an app in order to use the Hue widget. Seems like this will require a couple more steps. Also not sure why the Play/Pause needs its own control center area.
When you're in an app, the widgets panel becomes available to swipe over to from the notifications window.

looks very nice. glad to see swipe to unlock gone. lift to wake also seems nice.

however, the entire os seems to be getting confusing now. swipe up, down, left, right. tap, force tap. iOS seems to be turning into android these days.

Theres too many security holes in the new lock screen...
  • Replying with messages
  • Calendar access
  • Mail access
That can cause serious issues, especially with business-related stuff.

I think Apple keeps it off the initial lock screen in order to keep things looking clean; I kind of like it. The weather is just a swipe away. Kind of interesting, they used to have the weather on the Galaxy S6 on the lock screen, but when I upgraded to Marshmallow it was removed. There is something to be said about simplicity, but I do get why one would want to see the weather directly.

It doesn't have to be obnoxious and huge... Just a little "sunny, rain, cloudy" icon, temp and location... Apple could make it tasteful.

They allow it on the watch, why not on the phone...

It could still be disabled by default, and an option that could be enabled... It's really something that has bugged me for years... There were some good jailbreak tweaks back in the day to make it work very nicely, on tiny 3.5" screens.

Making me swipe left to control music playback is terrible.
no. it isn't. it's really fast and much better. you'll be ok. (also, music is still the whole lock screen if it's playing. no swipes nec.)

swiping is so easy it's hardly worth talking about. it's as good as on the lock screen faiap.

Hope they make the Tomorrow Summary actually useful. Now it's just a big tease: "you have 2 events tomorrow, and I'm not going to tell you what they are".
This is a gripe of mine as well. Needs selectivity. My wife, kids, in-laws, holidays, birthdays, and I all have calendars. But the tomorrow summary doesn't distinguish between any of it.

So does this mean someone can reply to your messages, interact with notifications, etc, without unlocking the phone?

So nobody here questions that a thief is able to see your messages, or personal information by swiping or using force touch. Or that they can just use airplane mode or that they can just take out the SIM and then Find My iPhone doesn't work? Surely this was considered during development right?

You can already interact, read and reply to messages and other stuff on current iOS device lock screens. This just seems to be changing the design of these notifications. And like before I'm sure there's an option to secure this and not have it available on the lock screen.

I'm sure that much of this will be tweaked and modified in the next 3 months.

No need to get up in arms about these changes.

You need more exercise ;)

I actually agree that it makes no sense to have the music controls placed in their own swipe pane and a huge button for Night Mode.

Exhausting is probably not a good description though. I'd categorize it more as annoying for people who use their iPhone for music.

And yet, there's still no weather display on the lock screen...

What has Apple got against this feature?
Just swipe left. It's quick, especially with this raise to wake feature. A lot of us don't like our lock screens cluttered with stuff. It would be cool to be able to add small complications (as on the Watch) for things like weather.
[doublepost=1465952921][/doublepost]Do you not have to put your finger on the touch ID sensor to peek into messages and reply? Is that an option?

The Lock screen experience in iOS 10 has been completely overhauled, with a new widgets side panel, a redesigned Control Center, revamped notifications, quicker camera access, and the removal of the iconic "Slide to Unlock" feature.

As can be seen in the hands-on video below, Slide to Unlock, formerly accessible through a right swipe, has been retired. Swiping right now brings up a widgets side panel, while swiping left opens up the Camera app. The widgets panel houses widgets formerly located in the "Today" view of the Notification Center.

The unlocking mechanism has been changed because with Touch ID, it was easy to bypass the Lock screen too quickly, making it difficult to see notifications.

New on the Lock screen is a "Raise to Wake" feature, exclusive to the iPhone 6s, 6s Plus, and SE, all three of which have an A9/M9 processor. There's also a redesigned Control Center and rich notifications, both of which support 3D Touch. In the Control Center, a 3D Touch on Flashlight, Timer, or Camera brings up different options, while 3D pressing on an incoming notification offers up options like replying to messages directly from the Lock screen.

My only question is, so anyone can pick up my phone, swipe to access my emails and messages without some sort of passcode/iTouch?

Except that's completely false. The lock screen is exactly as secure/insecure as your current iOS. The only differences are visual.

I wish people would actually use this stuff before making negative, uninformed comments.
thats the issue not enough people are using it to understand it. There are so many features out there it seems than apple didn't even mention

I have Control Center disabled on the Lock Screen which prevents the phone from being switched to Airplane mode, still doesn't stop them from removing the SIM. But I agree that whoever picks up your phone is able to see your notifications, unless you choose to disable them from displaying it's contents.

I'm not a fan of how Widgets are now available in only two places, the left of the lock screen and the left of the home screen. Before, I could access widgets from anywhere on the device through Notification Center. This is what made them useful, the ability to see them from anywhere.

Widgets will essentially be useless for me if I have to exit the app I am using to see them. I really hope that they change this.
Or at least let you choose wherw to put them! I personally like the lockscreen widgets but it is pretty dumb that my notification center is now empty

Like freaking me. Dude, Apple Music yada yada and they would even CONSIDER not having the controls in the initial pane? Gotta change that.
