no. it isn't. it's really fast and much better. you'll be ok. (also, music is still the whole lock screen if it's playing. no swipes nec.)

swiping is so easy it's hardly worth talking about. it's as good as on the lock screen faiap.
How is it faster and better? Sometimes I'll be using an app and I want to FF a podcast commercial. Now I swipe up from the bottom. In the future I'll always have to swipe up and to the left.

My only question is, so anyone can pick up my phone, swipe to access my emails and messages without some sort of passcode/iTouch?
The same security issues that were in iOS 9 apply. You could reply without needing a passcode/Touch ID in iOS 9, and you have a security option to turn it off.

Felt like I was watching a video of a Android device. Oh well, overall its good, iOS was getting a bit stale, time to shake things up.

Not sure if people replied to this yet, but
Thank goodness. On the 6S, the touch ID is so fast that it's almost impossible to turn on without unlocking the phone. This will really help.
iPhone still unlocks if you click the home button once to wake up the display. The same exact problem still exists. I don't know why people think this is fixed.

Semantically it makes sense to take widgets out of the Notification Pane, but this presumably means you'll have to exit whatever app you're in to get to your widgets. I pull down Notifications all the time when I'm in an app in order to use the Hue widget. Seems like this will require a couple more steps. Also not sure why the Play/Pause needs its own control center area.
The widgets are still in the notification centre when you are in an app. Swipe left on the notification centre.

So does this mean someone can reply to your messages, interact with notifications, etc, without unlocking the phone?
Yep, just like iOS 9. Nothing changed at all.

So nobody here questions that a thief is able to see your messages, or personal information by swiping or using force touch. Or that they can just use airplane mode or that they can just take out the SIM and then Find My iPhone doesn't work? Surely this was considered during development right?
...just like iOS 9. Please do your research before getting other people worried about non-issues. You can disable control centre access from lock screen. Again, just like iOS 9. And there's nothing Apple can do about the ability to take out SIM cards.

I'm not a fan of how Widgets are now available in only two places, the left of the lock screen and the left of the home screen. Before, I could access widgets from anywhere on the device through Notification Center. This is what made them useful, the ability to see them from anywhere.

Widgets will essentially be useless for me if I have to exit the app I am using to see them. I really hope that they change this.
They're still available if you swipe left in the notification centre as long as you're in an app.

And yet, there's still no weather display on the lock screen...

What has Apple got against this feature?
You can add it to lock screen widgets, just a left swipe away.

I am very worried about security with the new unlocking system.
K well downgrade to iOS 6 because nothing has changed security-wise since iOS 9. You're able to reply to messages in iOS 9 from the lock screen too, you know... Or maybe not.

Theres too many security holes in the new lock screen...
  • Replying with messages
  • Calendar access
  • Mail access
That can cause serious issues, especially with business-related stuff.
rofl it's... Oh I give up.

As a number of people have mentioned, I always thought the whole point of a lock screen was, you know, that you had to unlock the device before you could do stuff like read and reply to messages and emails and stuff. Just wait, in iOS 11 you will be able to see your credit card details, and use Apple Pay right from your lock screen, no touch ID required. Just raise to wake and off you go. So convenient.

No. Just stop.

Everyone keeps saying you can read notifications while locked just like iOS 9 and I understand this, but whenever I've tried to take action on one such as replying, it prompts for the passcode or Touch ID. I'm not running the beta so please forgive me if I missed something, but in the keynote it looked like you can 3D Touch on the message to bring up the conversation and reply. I don't remember any kind of unlocking method taking place during the demo.

Exactly! And they have made it so easy to unlock with touch ID, why would you not require it?

I think it defaults to music controls if something is playing.

I don't really get what the lock screen is locking since you can now basically do pretty much anything that user used to need to unlock the phone for without even being that user. Like reply to their messages, check their calendar events, ...

Side note, awesome video production. Am I the only one who didn't know there was a question mark in the MacRumors logo??

Reminds me of a mixture of webOS and android lock screen notifications.....Apple is now the follower.

I think it's dumb that "Raise to Wake" is exclusive to M9 devices. What about the M9 makes it a requirement over the M7 or M8?

I must say I like what I am seeing here. The only thing I'm wondering is, now is it required to have touch id/passcode set up?

I think that's the case. If that's what is required I'm gonna be quite bummed. Really don't like having to put in that passcode every once in a while. Requires me to pick up the phone during those times, because putting your thumb on a phone lying flat on the desk is awkward af. This is coming from someone who never has a stranger able to access their phone ever though, unless strictly given permission.

Also if the phone rings you can answer it without unlocking the phone. Very insecure.

"Slide to Unlock" is now "Press Home to Unlock"

What is so hard to understand, people?

It's exactly the same as the current iOS whether you have TouchID, passcode or no lock at all. Just a press instead of a swipe.

It's exactly the same people. Just not in the ways that it's different. Why does that not make sense to you?

As a matter of fact, I can. The last 4/5 digits. Is that a concern?
I can also use Apple Pay from the lock screen once I have it authenticated with my thumb print.

That is by design. If I stumbled upon your lost phone, you made a phone call to it, and I can't answer it, then how am I gonna return the phone to you?

If you don't want your spouse to be able to see and reply to incoming messages from your lover, disable the feature. Even if you leave the feature enabled it only allows access to the current message.
