But once you raise the phone to wake it up, wouldn't you just rest your finger over the Touch ID to unlock the phone without pressing it?

Raising the phone to wake up the display takes care of the complaint that the Touch ID speed to unlock the phone was happening too quickly missing whatever notifications you had on your lock screen.
Yeah, I turned that feature off. Didn't like that it was so sensitive. But I suppose you're right for people that keep it on.

This is a gripe of mine as well. Needs selectivity. My wife, kids, in-laws, holidays, birthdays, and I all have calendars. But the tomorrow summary doesn't distinguish between any of it.

Have you tried Fantastical? Its widget is great - shows you the day's events AND timed reminders (in a single, compact window), and you can tap an arrow to scroll through upcoming days.

So if Tmrrw Summary says "You have 2 events tomorrow," I just click the arrow in the Fantastical widget above it to see what they actually are...

I love how like 75% of the posts about how things are viewable on the lock screen, which is 100% no different than iOS 9 other than being arranged in a different order. If you don't want your stuff visible, turn off the feature and quit complaining. There's people that will use those features and others that won't and that's good enough

Theres too many security holes in the new lock screen...
  • Replying with messages
  • Calendar access
  • Mail access
That can cause serious issues, especially with business-related stuff.

Only if you choose to enable those features. It's a choice you can make.

Jeez, just turn off the ability to reply to texts and e-mails (without unlocking) if you don't want it! Just like in iOS 9.

Some yo-yos will complain about anything without thinking it through!

Why think things through when it's much easier to just complain and pretend it's awful?

Making me swipe left to control music playback is terrible.

Agreed. I keep wishing that if anything Apple or Android would also stop with pulldown menus to get to notifications (and quick settings in Androids case) and make it a pull up menu from the bottom. Basically like Androids but pull up from the bottom instead of down. Would make using a large phone much easier. Did they completely get rid of the today view on the pull down and put that in the widget menu?

Wait, really? Could you upload a screenshot showing this?
Since nobody seems to reply on this one:

If this hasn't already been related...

WOMEN.

"Who is that? What's that about? You NEVER told me about that. What are you keeping from me?"

No thanks, whatsoever. I'll wait for the guide to turn all of it off before I "upgrade" to "OS Getting Bitched Out by Women in Your Life" - thanks ;)

I'd find it useful if they hopefully hold all of it until I use my fingerprint to disclose my possible "horrid affairs" with my clients or anyone with a female name. Or anyone I might be banging on the side.

What's the next update? Share anything and everything with total strangers who pick up your phone?

C'mon - it's USEFUL. Now that your fingerprint is stored, why NOT just randomly share notifications? It takes SO LONG to get to extended info otherwise - pressing your FINGER to the GD phone?

Innovation died with Steve Jobs.

How about THIS? Touch your finger, get notifications? No? Just takes you to home screen? Seriously?

Oh, sorry - double tap is for Apple Pay at Starbucks. My bad.

What? o_O

In hindsight this looks like really usable updates! I also think watchOS was addressing usable things.

But I still wait for updated MBP's...

I actually agree that it makes no sense to have the music controls placed in their own swipe pane and a huge button for Night Mode.

Exhausting is probably not a good description though. I'd categorize it more as annoying for people who use their iPhone for music.

I don't understand why they moved the music controls in a second tab and put the gigantic button for night mode.
I never access night mode in my phone, it sets at a certain time of day and I'm fine with that, while I want my music settings to be easily accessible.
Of course the best thing would be having settings for control center to let the user decide what to put there, but for now we can only hope they'll change their mind and put music back on the first panel of control center

Most of that exists already in iOS now, with controls over various options relating to it all.

That says nothing.... And is meaningless in this discussion.

Let me break down logically.... In iOS 9 can you use 3D Touch to reply to a message without unlocking your iPhone. In iOS 10 can you reply to a message without unlocking your phone ?

Can you understand the issue here?

As some of us are not running iOS 10 beta, how about showing us where the options are to turn this off .

Well, you can swipe from the right on a message notification to reply to a message without unlocking your phone, so I guess technically the answer is yes - just not with 3Dtouch.
I use this feature a lot, but you can disable it - and I guess you can as well in ios10.
Technically, no privacy/security flaw in ios10 on this compared to 9

Thanks for that thorough reply. I've not had message notifications on my home screen for years , so was wondering if it was the same as iOS 9 or adding new functionality . Seems like it's just a more refined implementation of what iOS 9 is doing . Yup no security issue based on setting you activate.

If this kind of things concern you (which makes sense), you might want to check all you can do with lock screen notifications.
For example, if you have a missed call notification on the lock screen, you can swipe it to call back the number without unlocking the phone.
Also, you can do lots of things with Siri :D

So currently I get an iMessage and I swipe right to open and read it from the lock screen. It takes me directly to the message and I can reply. Same method applies for an email. I guess that won't be happening anymore...

This feature is still in beta 1 and works the same as before: just swipe right over the notification.
