Laughable.
And shocking.

Very few mentions of the fact that even after you pay $10 you really do NOT get the game. Hop aboard an airplane and that $10 you paid has zero meaning beacause you can't play it. Why not? COPY PROTECTION. Everyone is labeling it the politically correct "persistent Internet connection," but it is in fact the age old "copy protection" that is a thorn in the flesh to end users. At least back in 1984 when there was copy protection on 400k floppies, you could still use the software even if you didn't have a modem. Nowadays, without that Internet connection, you're dead in the water. To me, that's simply not right.

Because we all fly on planes all of the time? The global average is less than one flight a year per person.

If you can afford to do a load of flying I'm pretty sure you can afford 10 dollars and just play it when you can.

Being able to afford something has no relation to Value.

A hilarious defense of the status quo. As if cell phone data use is somehow unimportant! As if WIFI only iPads like mine can magically get WIFI for free wherever I go!

Let's instead talk about the real fact that even fewer people illegally copy iOS games, making obtrusive copy protection schemes like this statistically unnecessary. You ask how many iOS users fly? Well, I ask how many iOS users jailbreak, which is the only way to copy this silly game!

So what if you had to scroll down a list of countries. That is what every other Non US country deals w almost daily w most stuff.

NSLocale *currentLocale = [NSLocale currentLocale]; // get the current locale.
NSString *countryCode = [currentLocale objectForKey:NSLocaleCountryCode];
// get country code, e.g. ES (Spain), FR (France), etc.

That's what. It's called two lines of code to save me the trouble of scrolling down their stupid giant list that doesn't even scroll with momentum. Quit being such a blind defender.

I got the game, and I just now beat it (work got in the way). Anyway, there is alot more to the game than just the 6 worlds. The Toad Rally is actually fun, and there are lots more special and hidden courses and bonus games. It's competition with other players. You also have a kingdom you can build. The more things you have in your kingdom (houses), you get to do more bonus stuff more frequently.

The fun is really in the online mode. It's like COD or Battlefield. There is an "offline" mode, but the fun really starts in the Toad Rally. The competition is unpredictable, and there's a lot of replay-ability. Basically you can play the same map, but it's never the same each time.

For the world levels, you can replay them and try to get all the pink, then purple, then black coins. You have to get all the previous color coins before you can get the next color ones, and black is the toughest ones. The level changes, like something is blocking it or it's place in a tricky spot. This is for each levels.

Anyway, I need 10 friends to add, and wonder if anyone got the game who want to add me and each other. You get 100 Mario coins for 1 friend, another 100 for 5 friends, and another 100 for 10 friends. All the other Mario coins I've already got them.

PM me. All you need is to share the Player ID, which is just a set of numbers, nothing that reveals who you are.

I really agree with you guys about the copy protection on this. I would want to be able to keep a completely offline copy of this. Let say years after this game isn't supported anymore, how will I be able to keep playing? 5 years from now? 10 years from now? Is Nintendo going to shut it down, so no one will ever get to play it anymore? Or will they finally update the game to remove the copy protection?

I'm not a dev but AFAIK that just gives you the user's chosen language. You would need to get the country reverse geocoding and CoreLocation.

10 bucks is completely ok for a Nintendo Mario title on iOS! Great levels, great gameplay, tons of fun!(It should be playable offline, though, I agree with that)

Should have bought a cellular iPad.

Exactly, what did I get for finishing the game?

I wanted more, challenge, story, sense of accomplishment.

I'm a gamer, I had more fun recompleting some game than playing this one...

Collecting all the coins makes it more of a challenge. Hope this helps.

Maybe that's the trouble - you're a gamer. The majority of smartphone owners are not gamers. They are just people who own smartphones. And many, like myself, enjoy playing the odd game casually.

SMR is a pretty great game for non gamer, smartphone owners who enjoy playing the odd game casually.

If that's not you, fair enough. Maybe I should post on some gaming forums complaining about how so many of the supposedly good games are anything but, because they are overly complicated and take too much time to get to grips with and complete?

To be fair, when flying is precisely the sort of time I'd want to be able to play games on my phone.

It's a cracking game! But it hasn't pulled me away from Pokemon Sun which might be the most addictive full-fat game I've ever played.

I ask you, when else do you have time to play games?
It is simply the perfect time to do so.

"Daddy needs to take a ****. Whatever you need, ask mommy for the next one and a half hour"

Hah, I still don't get this though. How long do people spend in the toilet? I'm just in and out - same with friends and family. So maybe it's a culture thing? As for when to play games, that's wat afternoons are for?

This is just one of those things I've never understood.

I cannot get 5 green/black coins (they look more green to these eyes) which is the last set in the first world stage one, only 4. The fourth one is way up high and I cannot get up there to grab it. No problem with the others though it took me awhile. :)

The game is a blast and I am not proceeding till I collect all the coins in each stage. And it is addicting and a challenge imho, well worth my $10.

Well I managed to get it after cheating a bit as I watched YouTube with the best way to do it. :)

Still was not easy though but I like the accomplishment feeling I got when I did it. Now to tackle the next part.

Yeah, I would gladly pay $10 for the game for the family, but $50 (5 family members) isn't going to happen. Plus the always on connection is stupid. Nintendo is and always will be a ripoff. Keep Mario... I've got better stuff to play.

there's family sharing and yes it is compatible...already checked

I think it's a decent game, but having to always be online is frustrating. I live in New York City, and my 45 minute commute on the subway is when I generally play games on my phone. If one-handed control is such a major selling point, why are they making it unplayable on mass transit?

If you don't know what you're talking about, then you shouldn't comment on it, or at least take two minutes to google it. That code gives you exactly what Nintendo wants you to pick out of that terrible list.

The game has actually some variety, and some challenge after the paywall.

But with only 6 worlds, seems a bit short and it's too easy.

Already beaten the game

Get all the coins.. there are 3 per level. That's tough.
