completing a mario game is not completing a mario game. you gotta get the stars coloured coins etc.

Do you even Mario BRO!

It's not worth it. What I get for the coloured coins? Nothing worth it!

It's an investment? Really?

It can be. For example, I consider my Playstation an investment. I spent about 300 bucks on the thing, but I likely saved far more than that by keeping myself entertained instead of deciding to go out for drinks or dinners just to "have something to do" that only lasts a couple hours.

The game has actually some variety, and some challenge after the paywall.

But with only 6 worlds, seems a bit short and it's too easy.

Already beaten the game

Did you collect the pink, purple, and black coins in each stage?

If yes, awesome, you've actually "Beaten" the game. (Well, Tour mode anyway, you still have Toad Rally & Kingdom Builder to finish up.)

If no, haha, nope, you did not "beat" the game. You may have reached the end, but you've reached the end of baby mode.

I find that the game could have been more engaging if at least they gave you a button to change direction of mario.

I agree with all of your points.
I think you're missing the point of one-handed, casual games like this. I pulled it out and played it about 20 times yesterday. Sometimes I only played for a few seconds and sometimes for a few minutes - sometimes while watching TV and sometimes while waiting in line. The point is that it didn't require more than my thumb and part of my attention at any given time. No one wants a full Mario experience on a small phone screen and as soon as you give players control like that, you are asking for more attention than casual gamers are willing to give. This is the perfect mobile version of Mario.

This is EXACTLY a freemium game. ALL freemium games you can play without paying, but you have to collect things or wait a certain time limit to unlock content OR you can pay to unlock content or unlock the whole game if you are impatient.

Is Apple's warped reality field extending over Nintendo now and somehow they think they are doing things differently then the rest?
No it's not pal. There are no added, gems, timers , etc. you pay once and unlock the game. Other freemium games require literally hundreds of dollars to unlock everything on a constant basis. Or little micro transaction constantly to continue playing like candy crush. Are you really that dense?

Do some research......

This game is good and demonstrates a couple things:

1. On screen joysticks are a failure for smartphone gaming
2. Dedicated portable consoles like the 3DS aren't going anywhere

People who saw this as some admission by Nintendo that they need to give up on their handhelds are just wrong. It's a good game that plays well to the weaknesses of pure touchscreen controls.

Completed the game in one hour.. Now what??? Is there anything else worth doing in this game beside tapping the screen for mario to jump??? This is just as bad as subway surfer... Nintendo should stay away from Mobile games... This game will die in a month or two just like Pokemon go... No creativity what so ever...

Doubtful that you collected the pink, purple, and black coins in each level within an hour. Also doubtful that you managed to unlock all the special buildings in Kingdom Builder mode in that time.

pretty sure that would be impossible in just one hour

This exactly! Nintendo made this game mainly to make money but to also tide people over until the Switch comes out. If you want a true gaming experience from Nintendo you'll have to get a 3DS or wait for the Switch. Like was mentioned since ios lacks physical controls, Nintendo made Mario Run quite entertaining and challenging for a touch game. The level design is quite nice especially when you have to replay the levels (sometimes with different characters) to collect the different colored coins. There is a deeper experience in the game that is going over a lot of people's heads.

It's OK, but kind of reflects the sorry state of mobile games these days. Not much depth, a watered down experience compared to other platforms and requires a IAP.

Games like Severed that really push the mobile game envelope are much more rewarding.

Even collecting all the colored coins in the first levels is difficult, so it's as challenging as you want it to be. I'm not a big gamer, but I think this is fun on the phone. It's a game both kids and adults can pick up and enjoy (and most of us were probably kids when we first played Mario).

Well, I mean, to be fair, the watered down experience is due to mobile gaming being a watered down platform.

You can't really play a Mario game properly without a D-Pad and some actual buttons, this is the best possible compromise.

I signed up just to reply to you people complaining that the game has no depth, too easy and too short. Not worth 10? I spent over several hours on this and it's one of the most damn difficult games I've ever played. Just tapping? This isn't a glorified flappy bird. Once you start getting black coins, then come back and repost.

I quite enjoy my "new" 3DS XL with Pokemon Sun and Monster Hunter while I am on the bus/train/plane or at a coffee shop. I hope Nintendo can continue to make dedicated portable consoles because they can provide a full game experience on the go. However, I wouldn't be surprised Nintendo may head to a different direction in the future.

Smartphone games are not great at this point, beside few good ones.

Nintendo could make some iOS games with Bluetooth controllers in mind, though.

Man, if you thought people were balking at paying $10 for a videogame wait until you tell them they have to buy a $30-$50 accessory to play that $10 videogame, hoo boy.

Family purchases: https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT201085

Unless of course the game isn't eligible... is that the case?

I use the same iTunes account for purchasing across all my devices. When I purchased on my phone then went to my kids phones it acted like I had to pay again but once you click the buy option it confirms you already purchased and just activates on the other phones. Again, this is with the same iTunes store account and not with family sharing.
