I have held the Samsung Fold 3 in my hands and can tell you that that crease is forgotten quickly. Apple foldable, of course, will be perfect.

I had the fold 2 so I’m more than aware about the crease. Not an issue but it’s noticeable in most situations unless you are watching content.

I would never pay $1800 for a phone, but nice to see some major innovations happening in this market. It's been a long while since anything comparable happened with the Apple phone lineup. For sure, a number of wonderful incremental updates have taken place over the years, but nothing comparable to this for a long time

These latest Folds are damn sexy. Too expensive for me, so I'd personally go with a more classic type phone regardless, but Samsung are doing great by this being an option AND having more "standard" smartphones. Shame Apple basically only has 1 phone in 3 sizes (plus a slightly better camera version as, lets be honest, the Pro is barely any different). You either like it or not, whereas Samsung let you pick your favourite from a few designs.

Even in todays technology world there are many people who still lug around a mobile phone, a tablet of some sort (ipad or other make) and a laptop because they are unable to find the one device that is small enough and powerful enough to do the job of all three. Could the foldable phone be that device. Even if people do not need to use a laptop, many still lug around a mobile phone and a tablet.

There are many people who's profession requires them to move from place to place, from country to country on a regular basis and these people do not want to lug around lots of electronic devices. There will be companies and education establishments around the world looking into this foldable phone to see if they can incorparate it into their working lives because if they can save money on just purchasing one device, a device that can easily fit into ones pocket and is capable of running all the software that is required to run on it, then yes a company or education establishment will purchase the foldable phone in abundance.

The problem we have seen with foldable phones is that they need to be handled with kid gloves because when they were out and about in the real world being field tested, they did not hold up very well.

A very good example of where a foldable phone could be of great use is in the field of translation. There are millions of people around the world who are put in situations where they are not familiar with the local language but need to be able to communicate with the local people. Again, these people do not want to be lugging around large devices to be able to do that, like a laptop or a large tablet. Having a phone sized device would be perfect, especially one that folds out thus making it much easier to write on than a normal small sized screen on a phone.

There is a commercial market for foldable phones, it's just that the phone needs to be durable enough for these commercial companies to stand up and take notice.

Looks pretty good, but...

I think a 7" iPad mini with phone functions would be competitive with this at half the price.

No one actually needs this to fold.

It just fills the need for a giant screen phone, which definitely exists.

Let's face it we all use our phones to do stuff on the screen all the time, and barely anyone uses it for audio only like a normal phone we used to have.

And if that was the use case Apple has nice airpods and for those of us who don't like to fry their brains just to get rid of these cables, the old and excellent earpods. Which I use all the time, they can't be beat in performance/price.

Under-screen camera, foldable… Damn, that‘s innovation. That‘s the kind of innovation Apple lacks since the death of Steve.

Some Apple fanboys having foam in their mouths trying to rip it apart is just silly, childish, but sadly, expected behavior.

Characterizing people who like Apple products as "fanboys" and "having foam in their mouths" is childish.

I must say after using it, it's a killer feature to be able to get an iPad like exp from a phone.
ever since, I want one badly, I WISH apple will create a fold iPhone (12 mini size) with no crease.

Samsung now has a few years of foldable device development on Apple, so it will be interesting to see how Apple's foldable iPhone measures up should one ever see a release.

How do you know they haven't been developing this in their labs?

No utility? You mean you’ve never wanted to have a larger screen while consuming media?
I have a tablet and a phone. When I’m at home I prefer to use the tablet for watching videos or surfing the web. The only reason I don’t use it is due to inconvenience as usually my tablet is in one place and instead of grabbing it I just use my phone. This is the best of both worlds. You have something that’s always with you that can still become a tablet.
Except it doesn't actually do any of that.

LMAO oh yeah an under screen camera that the MR reviewer said looks hazy and requires software to help it look better. Yeah that's innovation. Good job Sammy. You still don't know what you're doing.

Oh ye of little imagination - for $150 more than an iPhone 12 (not even the pro) plus iPad Mini 5 LTE you have both in one device. It's no gimmick.
Except you DO NOT. Stop pretending that that is what you have. What you have is one device that is bad at being a phone and tablet. Instead of two devices that are actually good at what they do.

Sorry that you're not able to see a useless gimmick from a mile away like some people. You'll get taken for a ride I guess, some money drained from you for no reason, and will foam at the mouth trying to justify how you were not ripped off by a company trying to recoup R&D.

Just got mine. I had a Fold 2 that I enjoyed very much, but the small design changes to the 3 makes it feel so much better in the hand (you know the procedures). Makes holding my work 12 Pro Max a chore now. I keep the Fold folded the majority of the time to answer quick messages, etc. I keep it open at home to consume media. Its an awesome, awesome phone. I used to be a Samesucks hater to the core, but they are definitely growing on me.

I'm one of the lucky few that was sent the phone a week early and it's honestly fantastic. I haven't used my ipad since.

And the phone mode actually isn't that bad.

Just got mine today. It’s fantastic! Yeah, there are some compromises but overall it’s excellent.

I have many Apple products and I’m a fan but not a fanboy. Samsung makes great phones (especially Note phones).

I got one. Love it so far. Also have no doubt that if Apple did make one they would make it more polished. But it is a fantastic device thus far. I couldn't imagine going back to my 11 Pro Max.

Before Apple's newfound lack of scruples with privacy I am not sure I would have ever thought I'd return to Android... but here I am typing on a Fold 3. And I am actually enjoying it.
You four seem to also be Mac users. Question for you, as I'm contemplating giving this device a go. What services do you use for your calendars, email, contacts, etc? Are you "all google" and if so do you just use google stuff on your Mac? Or do you mix say google calendar on your phone with say Fantastical on the Mac?

To be fair most Apple fans don't know their head from their rectum. The iPhone 12 is fundamentally the same phone as the iPhone X from 2017 with a bit beefed up processor and RAM. The display hasn't changed, the notch hasn't changed, the basic shape hasn't changed. Most of it hasn't changed.

Apple users are not who I would say are at the forefront of technology.
And this is the problem of judging others, whether its a phone, car, vaccines etc.
People do what works for them and they talk about it :)
My ex wife just bought a $38,000 Audi, is it the car I would buy?
NO.
But she loves it.

Beautiful, beautiful piece of tech. Those saying foldable phones are trash, you wont buy them etc - wait until you see Apple release one and talk again
well, if apple releases something that actually looks good and functions well — we will talk. if it looks anything like this, i pray that apple will keep their non-foldable line up intact.

I miss being able to have a foldable PDA (e.g. phone) that has a built in keyboard, so I can go to a coffeeshop and actually do work without my laptop or iPad. I still remember the joy of being able to flip open my PalmPilot, for which I had purchased a case that had a built-in, trifold, relatively full sized keyboard. I didn't mind the little screen, but I did enjoy the very small size that got really close to the feeling of typing on my laptop, and the whole thing did literally fit in the "palm" (outstretched fingers) of one hand, and weighed little. So, foldable phones might be my future. I HATE huge phones, even though I am 6'4" with pretty big hands. I hate their aesthetic, and having to find where to put them when I am outside the house--they just look dumb and feel clunky in the hand. I have an iPhone 12 Pro, that is just a wee bit larger than I'd like. On the other hand, it sort of sucks for media consumption, so foldable would be great when it gets here (I do not for one second trust the longevity of Samsung's current offering).

It's not "judging." The point was Apple users don't live at the bleeding edge of tech. They buy what Apple regurgitates from others who try it first until Apple feels it is at a mass-market stage.

They're the soccer moms, grandparents, average people etc, who have no idea such folding phones even exist.

Never said there is anything wrong with that; or anything either way. Those are just facts about how Apple operates.

But not shocking either how none of the typical Apple diehards can't fathom why some people (Apple users too) may like this device, and turn to getting so utterly triggered over someone else being praised for doing something.

I would LOVE to find their internet history many years ago mocking big phones like the Note before buying a Plus/Max iPhone in the current device era. Hypocritical at best until Apple does it. People have very short memories.
