Can't recommend it with only 2GB DRAM when it would probably cost Apple $5 more to increase to 4GB. The $500 iPad Pro 10.5 at Micro Center makes more sense with double the DRAM (4GB vs 2GB), double the storage (64GB vs 32GB) and less likely to be obsolete anytime soon.

I was about to buy the new iPad and then read your post and checked out the local Microcenter and BANG reserved the iPad Pro 10.5 64GB for $499. The iPad 2018 I was looking at with 128GB (that I don't need, but 32GB is too small) was $429 at Apple. Hence, I am getting the way better iPad with sufficient 64GB for just $70 more!!

You should wait two more months, the prices will drop when the new iPad Pro comes out.

I just want a new iPad mini, Apple!

C'mon, putting an A9 on the mini can't be so difficult!

This is all I want as well. Nothing will get me off my surface pro for a larger tablet, but I didn't have a great experience with windows on a smaller tablet. I'm patiently waiting for the ipad mini 5, if it ever comes out. I'd be happy with pencil support and smaller bezels, otherwise I'm happy with the ipad mini 4 otherwise, although I won't say not to a processor upgrade.

1.4" less in screen size... almost half the screen area.

People need to stop ignoring the Aspect Ratio - it makes a huge difference on the actual area available for use.

That's why I always laugh when phones announce their screen size in 2017/2018. At least cut them vertically so they are 16:9 and measure them. No I don't expect a 4:3 phone, but 16:9 seemed to be the sweet spot for a phone.

Current hardware exceeds the capabilities of iOS so it's doubtful the new model will be noticeably better. On the other hand, the new model could be worse such as addition of unwanted notch, removal of 3.5mm jack and at full MSRP.

Every time Apple tries to make a lower cost device, the screen quality is always the first to go, like it did with the iPad Mini and the MacBook Air. Which is unfortunate because people have to look at the screen all day.

Serious answer...because they understand their pricing, products and market better than you.

Yeah, no strategy at the biggest company in the world coming off the best quarter in corporate history.

They are just blowing in the wind, not sure what to do.

Back to reality...they are CRUSHING it.

Yes, they're making lots of money because of ... wait for it ... the ecosystem. It's definitely NOT because of any innovative/inspired hardware. Apple has turned into the Microsoft of the early 00's where they were making lots of money on the coat tails of past innovation but moreso because of their market entrenchment.

iPad Pro 2018 won't be a notch either. But the bad side won't be a headphone jack. Now there's a little difference between the ipad and ipad Pro in terms of the processor. The price is too big. My advice is not to buy iPad without exiting iOS 12. Apple slows down devices for every IOS update.

A9 is one step up from the Mini 4! You want an A11 since A12 coming in September and it not going be updated for 2 years+ afterwards. If you used the A9 it going be 3 years old in September!

The new iPad's front camera is the same as the Nokia 3310 :)

You'll be surprised how the battery ends.

I have the Smart Keyboard and it ate more of my battery life than having a Bluetooth keyboard. I also liked the feel of my Logitech keyboard more than the Smart Keyboard.

It's definitely true. I think it's high on the price of the iPad. According to these traits.
Bad camera, old design, old iPhone processor, and Apple pencil price! 30 Dollar Student Discount :9 ahahahah

man i just want rose gold device because of the colour. i dont really care much about the devices. i guess im the dumbest consumer for thinking this way but my god the rose gold is just beautiful. no idea why apple doesnt keep using the rose gold but rather this ugly looking old gold

Ah, the conversations of people with unfulfilling lives... the tedious trap of "What's coming next? What's coming next?"

There's more to life than possessions, forever chasing what cannot be attained. I sincerely pity some of you - not all of course - but many. You have yet to learn what life is REALLY ABOUT.

IMO the Pro needs a 4K display to truly justify its price over the regular iPad.

Don’t sell yourself short, at least ask for an A10. You can also ask for TouchID gen 2 and True Tone because that wouldn’t be difficult for Apple either. Personally, I would ask for a redesign, but I don’t want to push you too far, too soon.:D

WTF is up with the Mini? For years I've had $500 set aside for a new Mini with a better display.

Why doesn't Apple want my money?
[doublepost=1522707707][/doublepost]

Nobody who uses a Mini believes an iPhone would be a good substitute. I'd bet good money that those who think an iPhone Plus is as good as a Mini iPad are the sort who don't use an iPad for reading books.

I’m in this group, but what percentage of the iPad users do we represent? And, fundamentally, what is insufficient about the iPad mini 4 that calls for a better processor and screen tech? Especially when we use it for reading?

I use it for more intensive things, too, and I would pay much more for an iPad mini Pro. I like holding the thing in one hand, and I do video and image editing on it. I know of only one other friend who does. Most everyone else wants the bigger screen real estate. If Apple wants to limit skus for whatever reason, they have probably drawn the line at the right place. Like the iPod Touch, I think there is just too limited audience for Apple’s taste. I guess like the Mac Mini, too. Depressing . . .

1.2MP FaceTime camera in 2018? Ouch.

The current hardware line up/specs reminds me of that period when GM's Tahoe, Yukon, Suburban and Escalade were literally all the same. (somewhat more differentiated now at least)

Given the amount of small businesses / restaurants fully dedicated to using Mini's to process transactions, I can see it receiving an update eventually to be compatible with the latest iOS.

Agreed,
But you forgot to mention :

iPad Pro also has superior quality display with better colors and has laminated display with no air gap between glass and display.(huge difference).
The screen on pro also has anti reflective coating.

iPad Pro has 4 speakers vs 2 in iPad 2018,audio quality is significantly better on Pro.

Pro has smart connector for Apple Keyboard cover.

What are you talking about, seriously? The iPhone is almost entirely about the software, like computing for most people. Dismissing the ecosystem and software like it’s nothing completely ignores the very essence of the experience for most. The experience is WHY Apple absolutely dominates the high end market for smartphones.

Hardware...notice Samsung trying to catch up with their version of facial recognition and Animoji? Apple surely looks ahead in this area and is pushing the entire industry in this direction. Samsung’s version is frankly a joke, yet they still released it to compete with Apple. Notice Apple driving the industry with 2 lens camera systems and a ton of software features to process pics after shooting? Bokeh, lighting, etc. Apple combines their industry leading hardware with an experience Android can’t match.

Apple has the best mobile silicone in the industry, period. Their A-series chips simp,y destroy the competion and play a big role in iPhones staying relevant for 4 and 5 years. Apple has innovated significantly with the W1 for wireless hardware.

You can dismiss all you want, but Apple is doing it from software and hardware perspectives.

They are about to give Intel a run for their money too. Apple CAN design chips. They are incredibly good at it.
