I'm more annoyed with the hype and YouTubers hyping this phone, as if this was the best since slice bread. And it's funny how most are comparing this with an iphone and then claiming it's a good deal. They forgot that Android in this price range is filled to the brim with competitors.

And let's see if Nothing can offer great service. There are already complaints about the screen discoloring and bleeding (cheap screen, figures), and Nothing dos nothing about it (pun intended). And those OS updates? Remember how he made a similar promise with OnePlus but never deliver?
Yeah, plus the chap will move on to his next adventure in another new country at some point. Certainly not a phone for the long term at the mo. Haven’t been following how it’s going so far so interesting about the display. He should be able to pop together a refined product by now!

If you look at his career, he's a marketing guy. And it does show with his ability to create hype and cult following with OnePlus. But marketing can only go so far without superior product and branding. And seems like he's a one trick pony. Create a new brand, create a hype using social media and internet channels, create an illusion of exclusivity of the product, and... profit.

Let's see how far he can go, and how long until he phones home to the mothership Oppo. Despite everything I've said, I wish him the best though. It's just hilarious seeing the YouTubers got so hyped up about it.

A product that is meant to attract NERDS have zero chance of being successful.
Well, never say never. I think the European release while sending review units to US YouTubers were intentional. To create that curiosity and desire to join these exclusive thing. It could be a cult hit just like OnePlus, although the competitions are quite heavy in this price range (at least in Asia). I’d imagine a US release will be coming.

There’s a consistent point that most YouTubers had about this phone, that it feels like a good deal in western markets. I can imagine since many phone OEMs are already out, leaving maybe just Motorola and Samsung to handle non-flagship Android segment, that segment can feel scarce. But in Asia, with players like Xiaomi and the BBK brands (Oppo, Vivo, Realme), that segment is very crowded.

if the company is able to put RGB into the LED's and link them to bluetooth it could be a good gimmick for gamers who have RGB gaming cases because with the right application software to link the two the gamer could link the colour patterns of their gaming rig to match that of the phone or visa versa but I think the biggest application for having those leds as RGB would be for music, have the music player linked into the LED's so when you play a song it changes the colour pattern. I think something like that could be a big seller with the younger generation.

oh and I think MR had an ulterior motive in producing the article because they knew how strong the potential for jokes would be and it's been proven right because this thread is nothing but pages after pages of jokes about the name of the phone.

I've been using an iPhone for 15 years now and this is the first non-Apple phone that even remotely catches my attention. 120Hz display for $475 seems like a sweet deal.
120Hz display is a dime a dozen nowadays. Galaxy A52s has it and it’s only about $300. Most Android phones in $400-$500 also have 120Hz OLED. Nothing too fancy.

What research is this when claiming “Inside, the Nothing Phone 1 has a Snapdragon 778G processor from Samsung
Have the youth reviewer heard of a company called Qualcomm

Yeah, the YouTubers have tried to hype for quite few years the foldable devices too. I still have not seen a single person using one of them and I live in a big city. They seem to struggle to take off. Tech oriented YouTubers are just nerds. They most of the times fail to put themselves on the regular Joe's shoes. Besides, these channels are mostly followed by equally nerdy type of people (me included) The regular people have no idea who MKHD, Dave 2d or mrwhoistheboss are.

Yep, and yet Apple have the audacity to market this as a 'Pro' feature and charge people a minimum £950 for it. Utterly shameful from Apple that they do not have 120 Mhz refresh rate (or at least 90 Mhz) on their regular iphones from 12 onwards.

You may know that not everyone has eyes as nimble as yours. Even I, who potentially suffers the rainbow effect with corresponding 4K-projectors, don't see any difference. You probably just see changes in battery life, and so Apple's decision is just fitting for me.

I completely understand Morgenland, but the 120 Mhz refresh rate can be turned off for those that do not like it or have sensitive eyes which would then default the screen to normal 60 Mhz. At least provide the option that's all i'm saying as its a standard feature on pretty much all Android phones, even the budget phones.

All of a sudden “Nothing Phone 1" makes the iPhone look 10 years older.

Somehow, Nothing can manage an OLED screen and 120Hz refresh for under $500. I'm guessing their investors don't demand record profits every quarter?

FWIW, their wireless earpods are pretty cool too.
I wish them the best, and that they absolutely kick ass, really!
Young, inventive and fun comparing to old greedy, not much really fun happened since Steve died, and boring but reliable Apple.

I am just saying, new inventor’s are coming, Apple is not untouchable. Steve’s legacy will not last forever. Probably longer for Mac’s, less longer for Phones.

Nobody is saying that Apple is invincible, and nothing lasts forever in the greater scheme of things, but when critics have not demonstrated that they understand how Apple grew to be as successful as they are today, I find it hard to believe that they know the reason why Apple will fail.

I agree, the "issue" is that this forum is made up of the most ardent Apple supporters so there's a natural negative knee-jerk reaction to anyone who tries to compete with them. But of course most consumers would love more competition in the smartphone space since it will eventually lead to new ideas and/or lower prices.
I don’t know what forum you are talking about but it’s been years since that was true. The loudest and most frequent voices these days are the Apple haters who constantly complain about everything Apple does or doesn’t do.

There isn’t a single phone, in the world. that has a display with that high a refresh rate. I think you mean 120 Hz not 120 MHz.

If you don’t like what Apple is charging you for one of their phones, it is as simple as don’t buy one. Plenty of other cheaper phones for you to buy. Apple prices their phones on what they think the market will pay.

What Nothing is doing is trying to get people to think they are buying a iPhone at a more affordable price. The back of the phone screams iPhone, all due to the way Nothing used similar sized camera lenses and the placement of those 2 camera lenses. It is so that they wanted instant product recognition. And then add to that marketing hype and product scarcity. Nothing wrong with a new company trying to break into a already over saturated mobile phone market. Just try to do it without making their product look very similar to an iPhone on purpose.
