Seems that AppleInsider.com has removed any signs of the Apple 1984-2004 commercial rumor.
Yeah at least they research stuff properly.

I think realistically if they are going to announce anything it is going to be at the Superbowl which is what - Feb 1st? 2nd?

Here's hoping I'm wrong and I can order my new G5 tonight and get on with my life.

I have been following the news and forums on this site in hopes that a new and faster Mac would be coming out. As a old school mac user that has since switched to PC for the past 10 years, I was looking forward to moving back to a mac. But it looks to me like I'll be going with the dell P-650 for now, maybe I'll give it another look in 3-5 years.

Too bad they never did anything with the anniversary, I've waited for 3 weeks and I just can't wait for the superbowl at this point.

You are missing out on virus free computers, computers that don't work against you, and computers that let you get the job done. And Macs are plenty fast for everything you want to do. Even the $800 eMac is.

Just read:

http://www.macvspc.info/

And you'll realize there is no reason not to go get a Macintosh today. And if you worry that a new model is about to be released, Apple does have a 10 day exchange policy at their store.

It's sods law though - whoever buys a Mac today will find 3Ghz G5's released 11 days after they buy.

Hmmmm... I'm here at the Apple store in Menlo Park NJ and they just disconnected the Cinema Display off one of the G5's. I gotta get to work in an hour so I hope they hook something new up to it soon. Got my camera phone ready.

I like macs, and have nothing against them, but realistically speaking, a PC can do everything I need as well as a mac. I’ve seen the speed tests and read at great length the results – and keep in mind, the computer I use IS my livelihood, not some gaming machine in a college dorm.

That being said, I would have liked to look into using a new maxed out G5, but with impending changes on the horizon, it would not be prudent to buy one at this point. I will continue to follow what Apple does, and hopefully their strategy and mine will become compatible in the future.

One a final note: one thing that has really turned me off towards Apple has been the consistent and constant PC bashing. This is behavior I expect from my children, not professionals. If you like Mac (and I always have) great, if not – great. It serves no one to pound out the same dialogue over and over again; and I know I can’t be the first person to articulate this feeling. It seems every time PC is mentioned, the peanut gallery chimes in.

So here’s hoping they do something by tomorrow!

Well they started it!

But Apple is directly competing against the PCs - its not just another Dell, or Gateway - its a different system. So by 'attacking' the PC world in general they try and show themselves as better.

They might be better off saying they're 'different' ( there was the whole Think Different campaign).

It tends to be the Apple's following comprised mostly of zealots who cause the biggest problems. And there are more PC zealots out there to fight back :D

Competition is good - the consumer usually benefits the most.

you know that just because apple brings out a 2.4 Ghz G5 next week doesn't make the current G5 obsolete or anything less than a great machine. there must have been something about apple's current offerings that made you "look forward to moving back to a mac". you can't win with the game you're playing, 3-5 years from now apple will be "on the verge of announcing speed bumped G6/7s" and you'll be in the exact same position.

if you like the current G5s but are really that worried a better machine will come out in the next month or two, buy one of the refurbed units, they'll set you back about $2400 ($100 less than a new dual 1.8).

That's not the point though - if I'm going to spend over $4000 on a machine (£2299 in the UK) then I want the top end and I definitely do not want to find out that the machine I just bought is obsolete in a few days and that for the same money I could have gotten something faster.

Well, I ordered a top of the range machine in early Dec. If new machines are announced and are available before I get my order (a large order) then I would probably have to cancel my order and place another order - unless, of course, they agreed to send me one of the new machines....

20th anniversary

found this on another site, thought it was very fitting!!!

Tomorrow is another day...

Let's face it. Nothing will come out today. So lets hope that Apple has chosen Tuesday as THE day for a release and get our hopes up only to have them destroyed again.

But honestly, Tuesday could be the day, MacOSRumors thinks so... (lol... MacOSRumors):D

i agree it will be tommorow tommorow untill something comes out. its so hard though waiting and knowing that there is something going to come out. But when???

you said in your post, before the one above, that you were waiting for apple to release a newer system before you buy. yet your willing to purchase a pc at this point? isnt the mac one of the fastest pc's you could get right now? wouldnt your new windows pc be a bit slower or at most as fast as a new mac?

im just confused as to why you say you wont get a mac unless apple releases a new system in the immediate future. macs are already as good or better (depending on point of view) as a windows pc.

anyway good luck. im sure a windows pc will be fine...but, since my computer is my lively hood, i would rather compute in style and quality with well thought out execution to every detail instead of um......well, i'll stop there.

a computer only becomes obsolete when it can no longer accomplish the tasks it was designed to do. i use a dual 500Mhz G4 and 667Mhz powerbook, everyday for work, despite being 4 and 2 years old respectively they are not obsolete.

people insatiable need for "top of the line" has more to do with ego than actual need and ultimately proves to be an unfulfilling quest, how long do computers remain top of the line these days 6-7 months?

I'm sure it says 3ghz G5 and 23" iMac....

If that's indeed real, I think it means that there will be new G5s with processors up to 3ghz, new iMacs, and new displays up o 23 inches. A 23" iMac with a 3ghz G5 wouldn't really serve a purpose.
