I've yet to see any complaints for CoD4 on any platform, and R&C is a good game thats why people are going ape about it, it looks damn pretty and plays just as great as any other Ratchet game (which could be it's biggest fault for non-ratchet fans). Must people rag on the PS3 on every thread *sigh*

In any case, I'm off to grab my pre-order of Drake's so hopefully it doesn't disappoint.

Maybe people are unhappy because CoD4 doesn't take place during WWII. People may be disappointed about that and are giving marks downs due to the setting (subconciously or not)....Since WWII era games have been all the rage the last several years. Do you think if CoD4 took place in WWII, it would have gotten higher marks?

Oppo upscaling DVD player for $150 will make the PS3 look like a $29 Wal-Mart DVD player ;)

I am well aware of the availability of DVD UPSCALERS but they do not play Blu-ray Discs. And the upscaling, give me a definitive analysis showing the reproduction quality. I am thoroughly pleased with its abilities.

As games are concerned. I bought it for two reasons. Metal Gear Solid 4 and GT5. When these are released I will be entirely satisfied with its gaming technology.

I am entirely happy with my $399 HiDef player; it even comes with 6 discs! When a select few games are released that will be a give in. A freebie really.

I'm curious why this is the case though. Are the reviewers are knocking off points just because the game is PS3 exclusive? Is COD is getting bonus points just by franchise history? Are PS3 fans just making a big deal of R&C because they have nothing else to play ( :p )? I doubt the last one, as even the COD4 fans I know that don't have PS3's don't seem to consider it all it is hyped to be.

I kinda feel what you are saying....reviewers fine comb each and every PS3 exclusive and deduct points for it bringing down the score yet when its on the other shoe they completely forget about that comb(guess they didnt bring it that day) and throw points away...completely contradicting themselves.....this is why I say never trust reviews.

Believe me when I tell you games like HS, Warhawk and RnC are really great games that aren't getting that boost....I can live with that but when I see the reviewers let a flawed game pass through as the end of all games and nothing can be bettter than it....I really question whats going on.

I'm pretty sure that reviewers are still getting lots of perks from the publishers to rate their games higher. I know this sounds like a conspiracy, but I recall hearing that one of the major PC game magazines(Of course I can't recall which one.) would rate games better soley on what kind of kick backs they received and intentionally rated others down if the publisher didn't give them any perks. This was around the time I was working at Interplay and that was 12 years ago, so things have probably changed since that time, but then again I doubt it. :)

Tell me about it. I've been downloading a ton of demos and can foresee my 40GB drive being filled up. It's nice that the drive is super easy to replace, though. I'm wondering...is there a way to easily clone the PS3 drive so I can put all of the data from the stock drive onto the new drive? Regardless, it will still be a long while before I get to the point where I want/need to replace the drive.

I think its pretty easy to backup the internal and replace it. The whole process would probably only take an hour. The video tutorials floating around really makes it look simple for any one who is ever used a screwdriver.

Just plug in a USB HD and go to system/backup and backup to the external drive. All of your movies, music, games, & game saves will be backed up on to the USB drive.

Replacing the drive isn't too hard, I replaced my 60GB with a 160GB drive in June. Make sure that you use the correct size screw driver otherwise you can and will strip screws. If you are a clutz like me and strip screws just call Sony and they will send you replacement screws for free.

All of your PSN account data, wifi settings, and system settings are stored on a chip. You will not lose or have to re enter any of this information once you have inserted the new HD. Just go to the format utility, format the new drive, restore your backup from USB and you are done :)

Is there a reason for no PS2 compatability? Also, does the 40GB PS3 have the wireless internet gameplay option or does it require an ethernet cable?

I'm not a big gamer but I would consider getting a PS3 if / when the family upgrades to a new television. It seems as though the picture in our current Tobisha is starting to go out, but it could be ages before my dad decides it's time for a new TV.

Sony wanted to focus on PS3 games so they jump ship on PS2 compat on the 40. The 40 does have wireless so you can play online and browse the internet/PS Store wirelessly.

Got my 40gb version yesterday, just waiting for my HDTV to show up tomorrow.

I'm blown away by everything so far, the build quality, the ease of use, how quiet the thing is, and the visuals are sublime, I picked up Assassin's Creed. Signing up to PSN was easy, and i'm downloading some demos as I type this.

There are some nice touches, like the ability to turn off the console from the joypad, and the user-upgradeable harddrive is very welcome.

Great, i'm very pleased with my purchase.

The 80gig used software emu to run ps2 games so it still doesn't make sense why they took the feature away from the 40gig. Regardless there are not any last gen games i want to play so it doesn't matter to me.

They took out the "emotion" chip, this time they took out the graphics synthesiser.

Still though, my PC doesn't have said chip yet it renders PS2 games... They should talk to the guy who makes all them PS1 and 2 renderers. He's doing a very good job.

I think this is an interesting one tbh.

Amazing what people will want, and do to get such a thing when you can't get any, really.

We aint had 60giggers for a while at work, and everyone seems to want them. (Same as with the Wii and DS) But someone must have had dug a box of them out at a warehouse somewhere and we got 3 last week. We had a bloke come from Newcastle (120 mile round trip) and one from Glasgow (200 mile round trip) just to get a 60gig PS3.

*Shrugs* I don't know Sony, no PS2 emulation... You make some strange decisions.

So are places actually running out of the 60giggers? I know Sony said they were being sold 'while stocks lasted' but I still see them advertised everywhere. In the UK, at least, the 60gb version's a much better deal than the 40gb one if you go to somewhere like Virgin.

^ They seem to have sold out completely of 60gb version here in Ireland. Only the €499 40GB version available.

The last package €599 for a 60gb PS3, with extra controller and two games (+ ps2 BC) was a much better deal, especially as games are €65-75, and spare controller is €60 here.

Exactly. Here it was a 60GB PS3 for £350 with either two games and a controller or two games and two blu ray films. I went for the latter. I got £45 Ridge Racer, £50 Oblivion and two £25 Blu-rays.

Seems like you guys out there were getting great deals on the 60 Gig so you might as well if you want the PS2 emulation...

Yes it has wireless.

It is pretty amazing I have to say. I picked up COD4 yesterday and spent most of the night playing online. Will upgrade to a bigger drive soon, since divx, xvid is supported now. You will have to transfer xvid files to the HD for them to work.

Yeah, soon as word got out they we're stopping them we sold out.

Hi guys -- I was wondering if the new 80GB PS3 has the 65nm chip inside. I was also wondering if anybody could vouch that PS1 games were backward compatible (mostly Chrono Cross) -- I know that the 80GB version now emulates the BC games so my next question I suppose is how the quality of that is vs. the previous hardware BC solution (i.e. the 60GB)?

Thanks guys

I have the 40 gig PS3. I really love it, and because I don't own a PS2, I don't need the backwards compatibility that comes with the 80 gig.
