I've noticed some habit changes for me since the launch of Apple Pay

  • I've been doing most of my shopping for food and essentials at Wal-Mart. I actually am somewhat morally opposed to Wal-Mart but I do have to admit the prices are cheap! it has really helped me save money.
  • I have lunch at McDonalds most days of the week... our work does a weekly trip to a random restaurant and most of the time it doesnt take Apple Pay, but other days I find myself going to McDonalds most of the time. (I tried Subway but had very poor luck trying to use Apple Pay). I've started to order things off the McDonalds menu that I never thought i'd try.
  • I've switched to only shopping at PetCo instead of PetSmart for dog toys.
  • I'm starting to avoid other merchants that don't have NFC terminals... if they aren't willing to support the latest payment methods, why should I be willing to support them?

Anyone else feel similarly?
IF you change your life to fit "apple pay" I say you have major issues and need therapy.

I am not going to hang up my phone call just to pay.

1. You shouldn't be on a phone call when paying. It's rude to the clerk and everybody working there.

2. It's also rude to those around you, when in line. We don't want to hear your conversation.

3. You slow things down when on the phone too. People don't realize they are not moving as fast cause they are paying attention to the phone call, not as much as what's going on around them (just like on the highway, usually the idiot in the left lane going only 40 mph is on the phone). Stop the phone call, read the menu and get ready to order and pay.

Do us all a favor , don't use your phone in line, while actually paying or in a restaurant at all. Do use it for Apple pay. If you need to talk on the phone that badly, step outside or stay in your parked car.

Thank you.

Welcome to 2014..... get over it! What's the difference between me talking to someone next to me in line or on the phone? None..... PLUS it's not your concern what another does in line, sit there, shut your pie hole and listen to their conversation or don't but who the hell are you to tell others what they can and can't do? People such as yourself really need to adjust to the times..... can't keep up then lock yourself in a bubble and hope the 1950's come around again.
Tried adding this but it didn't take..... Is it polite to speak to the sales person? Sure and I do....I'm able to do more than one thing at a time like be on the phone with someone AND acknowledge another person. I wound't stop talking to a person that was next to me while paying for something so why should I stop talking on the phone to that person? Times change and so do the social norms.... one can be polite to another person AND be on the phone with another.

Wrong. Some retailers post a sign to please refrain from being on the cell while completing your transaction and this is for a good reason.

It doesn't make sense to change your buying habits just to use Apple Pay. It's not saving you money and it's using the same credit card that you'd swipe at other stores. Is it more secure? Sure, but you even admit you still have to swipe your card sometimes.

I use Apple Pay at Duane Reade (New York City convenience store chain that's on every corner and owned by Walgreens)... but not really anywhere else, and it doesn't bother me.

LoL I'd LOVE to see some store person come tell me to not use my phone while I'm shopping at their establishment...... I'd tell them to stick it where the sun doesn't shine and continue about my business.

No the social norm has not changed. You should not talk to a person next to you while paying, nor should you talk on the phone. It's rude. End of story. Where are your parents! Did they teach you nothing? Look the cashier in the eye, thank them and act like a civilized person. The difference is, when you are talking on the phone you are disengaged from those around you and the place you are in. So YOU are wrong and don't get it. YOU need to get over your sense of entitlement.

Here, read the rules:

http://communitytable.com/60607/ste...on-the-phone-when-checking-out-at-the-market/

"When you’re engaged in a transaction with someone, the bare minimum of acceptable behavior is to acknowledge that person’s existence, not treat them as if they were a vending machine."

The fact that you did not learn manners is very sad. Modern times do not give you a license to be rude in public.

Not surprised that you would up the ante on your original rudeness, by making it worse and yelling at the clerk. Do us all a favor, stay at home and use your phone to get home delivery.

----------

Most people here forget their 800 dollar handheld social thing-a-am-jig is used to actually make phone calls.

Yes. At the proper time and place. Not acting like a douche while conducting an in store transaction.

No wonder why you're inconsiderate enough to yap on your phone throughout the transaction. It is disrespectful to the clerk and others around you.

In 2014, talking on the phone while ordering is NOT socially normal.

Not a good idea. But putting the call on hold would be useful so that you could resume the call you were on prior to ordering. Though I suppose it's not that hard to just call back when you're done. On the other hand one can switch to an app while on a call and then return to the call, so would the passbook app actually disconnect a call in progress if you switched to it? I don't know since I'm never in such a situation. Or is it a matter of the NFC antenna not being able to work while the cellular antenna is in use?

When i am paying and also on call I tell the other person to hold, then I pay.

I hate to break it to you, but it is highly annoying to others in the line to yap on the phone while in the checkout. It's better that you actually put the person on hold to pay, but still rude and inconsiderate to others around you to yap away on the phone.

Meanwhile others in line are yapping to each other? Are we supposed to be silent while waiting in line? It's not the freaking library.

Do you guys see merchants using Square there? If Square supports ApplePay as they say they will, I could see small businesses actually offering ApplePay more easily than big businesses.

No. Not really. Aside from some really niche places I don't see much square. It's either cash only (making this completely not relevent) or old school credit card readers. It's also VERY common to put a $10-20 minimum on cards, which apparently is against TOS from what I understand.

I haven't changed habits yet... however...

Today I was at Walgreens and about ready to pull out my credit card to pay when I saw the :apple:Pay logo and thought - o yeah - :apple:Pay. Let me try this!

After the purchase I rememered the purchase was to go on my business credit card (not supported by :apple:Pay) not my personal card.

I started stopping at a vending machine on campus for a drink more often because I can use Apple pay. I do most of my grocery shopping at Meijer and Target and I use Apple pay at Meijer but I use a Target card at Target. I also use it at Panera but there aren't that many places locally that take Apple pay.

So I guess my spending habits haven't changed much, except that I get excited about paying with my phone.

Hopefully a gym near you accepts Apple pay if you keep eating the Golden Arches all the time lol

I have been hit twice in the last year with credit card replacements because of breaches (Home Depot one had a $2000 charge on my account). So I basically don't want to swipe anymore. ApplePay came along at just the right time for me...

This is the exact reason to make the change and give NFC payments a chance to succeed. Thats plain ridiculous!! I welcome the day when the merchants will be held directly responsible for not taking precautions to protect their customers.

I haven't really changed my habits to support Apple pay so much rather I'm so much more inclined to use cash now.

Are you aware that the reason that people find cell phone users annoying is that they tend to talk significantly louder on their cell compared to carrying a conversation in person, not to mention that you're not actually interacting with those around you and they don't really have a choice to move away from you?

Annoying people apparently don't realize they're annoying and you're obviously one of them.

Are you aware that not everyone does that and that some of us are conscious of our surroundings?
