Has AT&T done enough to keep you once VZW gets the iPhone?

the other instance is the metro. It does kind of suck seeing my verizon friends surfing the internet or sending texts while riding the metro while I have to wait until the train pops up from the tunnels. is AT&T attempting to improve reception while riding the trains or is it that verizons tech is just better at penetrating walls.

Last I heard, verizon signed an exclusive deal to put mini cell towers in the tunnels in order to get service down there, this was a couple years ago, not sure if or when that deal is up. But yeah, it has nothing to do with verizon penetrating better, they have mini towers inside tunnels.

There is no assumption as they have stated that it will be complete by 2013. Jeez do people here not pay attention to the news???

By complete they said they would cover their ENTIRE network with HSPA+?

If so, I guess I don't pay attention to the news because I don't recall that part.

This article implies otherwise. It looks like only the current HSPA areas will get the software update for HSPA+. That leaves the existing Edge areas....on Edge.

“This move to HSPA+ is primarily a software upgrade for equipment across our network, very similar to the upgrade we made earlier this year to HSPA 7.2,”

For AT&T (T), this HSPA+ upgrade is intended as a bridge to LTE, which in all likelihood will be an overlay network to 3G for the next few years.

However, I don't claim to be fully up to date on the subject.

My contract's not up until 2012, so I'm with AT&T until then. I'd like to think that the iPhone will offer LTE by that point, so I'll probably start comparing networks more actively around then.

From the official press release:

The company announced plans today to accelerate its LTE network build, to be largely complete by yearend 2013; AT&T

Year end 2013. Hopefully HSPA+ will be ahead of that schedule.

This still doesn't indicate what will be done with the existing Edge network. I've seen nothing that even hints or implies that it will be upgraded to HSPA or HSPA+.

From the looks of Q12011 future coverage map it looks like they are starting to expand into rural areas, and i'm not talking about the massive amount of rural coverage from Alltel acquisition. -

As of this posting, 81.87% are staying with AT&T, so much for Verizon....

That's expected in this forum. Says nothing about the general public. Although I don't think it will be as fast and as large an exodus as some news outlets would have us believe.

Kind of like the Verizon iPhone, I guess it is inevitable that they upgrade...someday. I just won't be counting on it reaching my mom's house anytime soon. ;)

i can't believe i am responding to another verizon iphone thread ;)

i will be staying with at&t no question
i have no desire to change at all if verizon actually gets the iphone :)

my experience with at&t has been great and i have no issues

+1

im guessing that a misrepresentation of AT&T coverage. there is no way that att is lacking THAT much in coverage right?

edit.
totally forgot that if they include edge than it'll be alot more even. this leads me to my next question. In areas where verizon gets "3g" and ATT gets edge, are the speeds night and day? Im talking about ATT 3G speeds to ATT edge speeds, that type of difference.

In my experience, YES. I can say this because my AT&T speeds on 3G are more closely to those of Verizon's 3G than some of the higher results I've seen posted by some.

When I travel to my family's homes, the drop to Edge is awful.

Come now, really? This board has one of the highest percent of Verizon fanboys and AT&T haters threads, yet the polls shows different.

Just goes to prove that AT&T is fine and its a few people making all the AT&T hate noise.

I disagree, all previous polls have leaned AT&Ts way. They have never reflected polls taken in public. Just go look at a few of the past Verizon vs AT&T polls a few months ago.

As much Verizon noise as there is now, this forum still leans AT&T and always has.

"done enough"

that would imply they actually did something, as far as i can tell all they have done is take my money for service.

Hardly.... this forum has always been Verizon ruled, in terms of rumors and AT&T bashings. For the past 3-4 years this forum and site have done nothing but report Verizon rumors, post articles that make AT&T look horrendous and overall rarely (if ever) post good things about AT&T.

If you read all the after comments to each story you'd see that the same thing follows in the comments base.

However, as of late its been changing and this very poll is proof of that. That's an 80+% of customers that are not going to Verizon, many (if not majority) of which came from there in the first place.

It may feel that way when you read the AT&T bashing posts, I feel differently when I read the "Verizon will never get the iPhone" posts.

However, the proof is in the pudding. I'm serious, go back and look at the past polls....AT&T always wins. This is not a recent change.

Edit: Here's one from July. It's a landslide in AT&T's favor. It has been this way for a very long time. (I answered.."Depends on pricing")

Wrong, that is not on the fly and and I need to stay with a Verizon device PLUS unlike GSM I can't buy an unlocked phone and and switch right to it.

This is where CDMA fails miserly.

1) Both Apple and the GSM Association want to do away with swappable SIMs, for various reasons.

2) My wife temporarily lost her phone the other day. (It was left at work.) She had to leave early the next morning on a trip and was desperate to have a phone with her number in it.

Fortunately, she's on Verizon. So I grabbed her older phone from my drawer, stuck in a charged up battery, dialed *228 on it, entered her phone number and our PIN, and a minute later it was programmed with her number and off she went.

3) Phone gets stolen? Verizon will blacklist it so no one else can use it. Lose your ATT phone? Too bad.

Wow, trying too hard on the whole SIM deal. Admit this one here and say it slowly. You wish you'd had a SIM.

Carrier freedom, phone freedom. Why would I want to do away with that?

Same here. And I have been to many areas away from major cities without problems. I just hope that the Verizon iPhone stars a price war on service. That would ultimately benefit customers of both networks.
