Has AT&T done enough to keep you once VZW gets the iPhone?

Just last night my Aunt called me up because she couldnt find an address and was lost, I was able to launch google maps and quickly guide her from where she was to where she was going. Being on a call and using data at the same time is something I love too much to give up..... Of course the LTE iphone on verizon will resolve this in the future, but even then I will be sticking with AT&T

The Verizon Iphone wont have the ability to hit the home button during a call and do something else involving data simultaneously?

Yes, you will, that won't change.

What we don't know yet is if you will be able to download data during a call.

I would switch in a heartbeat if Verizon's any cheaper than AT&T, and I've never had any issues with AT&T's service... It has been fairly good for me, no matter where I travel.

Cost is the biggest issue for me...

Can I ask a question.... why so much animosity towards ATT?

How come we don't here the same from Verizon customers or is there as much?

Verizon launched a propoganda campaign against AT&T in the summer of 2008 and everyone latched on...The majority of AT&T's network is the old Cingular network which NO ONE complained about prior to the release of the iPhone 3G...and Verizon customers complain MORE than AT&T's maybe not about dropping a call but for nefarious billing practices and horrible customer service

I agree here. I'll most likely stick with AT&T until my contract is up. Then I'll explore the possibility of switching to VZW since they have a better discount program through my company than AT&T.

Me, don't talk much when I travel. I carried my CDMA Treo to several foreign countries and made a few brief calls to let my family know I was well. And for the times I did need to make a bunch of local calls, I just rented a phone. I see your point, but not everyone thinks the way you do. It may not be the best solution...but it's not a brick.

Fair enough.

I guess my point is that a $3.50 SIM card you can purchase out of a vending machine to use in your own phone is a lot cheaper than renting a phone, and a helluva lot cheaper than roaming charges.

Part of that is a geographical problem since it is a lot harder to get out of the US to other countries compared to, say, Germany or the Netherlands, where the length of a flight from Vegas to LAX could land you in Italy, Spain, Austria, or Sweden.

But you're right; most don't think the way I do. I'm more on the inclination to think and do smarter, not work harder. But what also is sad is that people are just happy with that, and that limits their knowledge of the world around them, as well as their thinking.

BL.

I'm happy with ATT in my home calling area. Great 3G coverage and speed. I've had less than 10 dropped calls since owning the original iPhone (been through each iPhone generation). I'm grandfathered in on unlimited data. I also have the highest discount offered (I think).
What's not to like? :D
I guess the only thing I can bicker about is the poor coverage at Arky games. Coverage sucks around War Memorial and up in Fayetteville during football games! Though coverage is just fine at football games at Jerryworld in Arlington.
I'd also love for ATT to put up 3G towers along interstates. It sucks to be driving to Dallas and switch from 3G to edge between larger towns/cities (sucks for streaming).

No you won't unless you're on wifi. Yes, you can hit the home button while on a call and switch programs, but if that program needs to get any data from the Internet (safari, google maps, email, ect.) you won't be able to get it until you hang up. It will still load the program, but won't connect to get the data the app needs to update.

I'm staying withh AT&T. With all my rollover minutes, unlimited Data, and I have 3G coverage everywhere in Colorado. Would be dumb for me to switch carriers. For some reason I have never had the desire to go to them for wireless. I was first with MCI wireless, Voice Stream, tmobile, sprint, and finally AT&T. They have been great so far!

I'll be sticking with AT&T. They are making huge improvements to their network, and it will only get better. Already people have said that they now have coverage in places that they didn't just a year ago. Lte will be coming out this coming year for att, and in places that Lte isn't available, you will be falling back on hspa+. I'd rather have that to fall back on then ev-do. In the next few years, I see coverage being pretty equal but with Att bieng much faster on average. Each will have places that they don't have coverage, but I think that will be equal on average as well, just maybe not in the same places.

Oh, and I'll second Verizons billing is hideous.

The good -
No upgrade fee for an iPhone - ever
Unlimited data
great coverage in DC (with one exception, see below) and when I travel (40K domestic miles in the last 5 months)
discounted price when I replaced my 4 (original had been stolen) without me saying anything
Free replacement SIM for my 2G before purchasing my new 4
Ability to use voice and data at the same time

The bad -

No service in my apartment except for 6" from my window
No service in the Metro
So dropped calls problems when living in Seattle, but think it was more my 3G and an oversaturated network

The ugly
AT&T has done a pretty bang up job for me for the last 7 years and there's nothing Verizon currently offers that will compel me to switch, not even fake 4G.

In my experience, AT&T is the right choice in CO. I had a user that just couldn't get service on Verizon @ home.

That's a major assumption. Based on AT&T history I don't think that will be the case.

I'll be staying with AT&T at least until my contract is up in a year and a half. I'm grandfathered into the unlimited data plan, and I like being able to use the internet while on a call. I don't travel much, and my connection has been very good in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. I'm interested to see what the competition brings and how things will change over the remainder of my contract.

Major assumption? They publicly stated that they will start deployment in mid 2011......

AT&T FINALLY put up a new tower in my area which drastically increased my reception. Before, 1 bar of service was pretty common. Now, I get around 4-5 bars consistently. Don't like AT&T, don't hate AT&T but as the reception is much better and I just recently upgraded, I'll be sticking with them.

VZW is one cellular company I've never had an interest in obtaining service with. Needless to say, I'll be staying with AT&T.

As we can see from the poll thus far, there is only a minority of you that will switch over to Verizon, if we apply this to the real world, the CDMA iPhone will fail.

It's not a question of the phone, it's the network. Currently, voice & data can't be used on Verizon simultaneously. And that is a dealbreaker for me.

the only two instances that i had HORRIBLE reception were (to be honest, they were actually really bad) when i went on a golf trip in sanford north carolina and riding the metro.

the north carolina trip had me infuriated with att. NO reception at all. Went outside, nothing. I would have to drive down the street to get 1-2 bars. Not sure if verizon would have fared any better but i figured i would put my experience out there.

the other instance is the metro. It does kind of suck seeing my verizon friends surfing the internet or sending texts while riding the metro while I have to wait until the train pops up from the tunnels. is AT&T attempting to improve reception while riding the trains or is it that verizons tech is just better at penetrating walls.

I don't see it as a fail. This is one small segment of one small subset of iPhone users responding to a poll question. It doesn't represent the people already on Verizon who have an interest in the iPhone, or people who have a different phone on AT&T who might want to buy an iPhone but have been scared away by the negative publicity.
I'm not a fan of either AT&T or Verizon when you come right down to it.
Personally, I'm not switching because there are too many x factors involved for me and I've not had the huge issues some have had with AT&T.
Having said that, the opportunity to get the iPhone on a different network in the US may result in some competitive offerings by AT&T which would be good for the consumer. We'll see...

Exactly. I can't vote for either option, because I already have Verizon.

Ding ding!

Had Verizon several years ago. I had to babysit the phone bill every time it came in because there would be charges of which I had no idea what they were for. Time and time again. Were not talking a few dollars, where talking about $20/$40 here and there. Not to mention the poor customer service consistently. Got tired of it.

AT&T has been 100% better from the get go. I have not had but a couple of problems and as far as calling goes, not many issues either. Nothing more than I had with Verizon.
