Yeah OBVIOUSLY flat UI was a huge mistake, it's not every single other UI design in the last few years has adopted it. Personally I FAR prefer the flat UI stuff than the awful skeuomorphism design language we had before.

I don't get the hate for the touchbar either...like it makes an area of the keyboard that was effectively useless for the average person into something that does something. What's so bad about it?

Only reason one more thing had an impact before was people weren't nearly concerned with Apple rumors and their supply chain back then and their operation was smaller so there were less leaks. Were Steve Jobs around today we would still have just as many leaks and the big announcements would still be knows weeks in advance. Part of the territory of being this successful.

The primary reason other UIs have adopted it is because Apple did it, so it must be trendy. Don’t mistake success with actual good design. Honestly, take a look at Android’s Material Design. It’s aesthetics are quite nice. There used to be an option to reintroduce button outlines on iOS, but Apple broke than in iOS 10 and now just underlines the text you can click like a 1995 html link.

i do hope alot of people won't buy it because it's too expensive. that way they might adjust the prices. otherwise they'll never go back down again....

but personally i'm buying it anyway. damn you, apple ;)

Pretty sure it was Microsoft with Windows 8 that really kicked the whole thing off and really Apple, as is typical for them, waited a bit before adopting the new trend.

As I mentioned I consider flat UIs good design and I love them. Gradients and fake 3d effects look tacky and childish in comparison IMO

A non-flat UI doesn’t mean fake 3D effects. Microsoft managed to build a flat UI with generally well defined click/touch boundaries. Visually representing those boundaries and where you can interact with a display makes a huge difference to the functionality of that UI. The whole mess of tapping on text that may or may not be a link as it’s smattered around iOS I would consider a poorly design flat UI. I wish I had a way to turn that off because there are other things I like about iOS.

If anything, the price turns me off to the X. But that isn't going to turn me off to Apple as a company.

^^^^^^^^^ None of this is true.

Lmao, oh here we go where you're going to tell me that the iPhone 8 didn't turn me off Apple's iPhone. My SE is going up for sale and the 7+ is going back to its original owner. It's a terrible upgrade from the 7+ since it has the same concepts. iOS 11 is a very terrible update compared to the iPad version since it reinvigorated the iPad. HEVC just got introduced into iOS 11.

Rather stick with the 7+ than go 8+.

"Very terrible update ..."

And you expect people to take you seriously ...

Quite the opposite. For the first time since the iPhone 6, I'm actually excited about a new release.

People have short memories, or have not been around as long as I have. Apple has always been pretty daring in design and never afraid to charge way way too much for their products. Sometimes it's lead to complete des aster. Remember Lisa? How about the cube? The first all in one iMacs were a success but daring in design and expensive.

I like the X design, I've always stayed away from + models because of the size, and I've dreamed of a larger screen in a smaller form for years.

Remember the "Lisa"--that was my first computer---I have some bitter sweet memories

i can tell you, it has me. The iPhone X really has made me question what they are doing. I’m usually so wanting the new version of the iPhone but this time, it’s so expensive, the notch, the face id, the fact it’s got a lower res and inferior screen to most competitors phones etc etc. It’s not the product I thought it was gonna be.
Now Apple have a huge fan base. Almost like a football team, some will follow them whatever.
But I don’t see them like that. I like their products (or used to) and if my football team are playing badly, I’ll still give them my money and go watch them, to support them. Apple can’t expect us to do that with them. I’m not paying over £1000 for a shoddy product. I’m not supporting them, I want excellence for my £1000. And they aren’t delivering that anymore

The ipX is a little too big for me.

I value easy one-handed use...one of my top 3 reasons to pick any phone. And by not having TouchID, Apple pulled the rug out from under us.

Those two reasons alone sealed the deal on why the ipX was a no buy for me.

The other stuff - the notch, the UI/UX stuff, etc...that was just icing on the cake.

But I'm not turned off to Apple. Not yet anyway. More like indifferent.

I would consider Android but the pickings are slim.

My top 3 things that I need in a phone are:

small size
battery life
good features to price ratio

So far, I haven't found all three with Android.

iPhone X is indeed a bit pricey. But after more than 20 years with Apple products, it's hardly the first time I hear that "Apple costs too much".

Nobody's forcing me to replace my iPhone every year. In fact I find this a little stupid but that's just me. I have friends and colleagues who still use an iPhones 4... I love the X and wouldn't mind one. I think most of the complaints are, like every year in fact, silly. But my 7+ has still a year on its contract (which I did pay more than 1K last year), and it works perctecly. So I'll just wait for next year's model, or the year after. It's a non-issue for me.

I make my living with Apple products, there's no way an iPhone would "turn me off Apple"... I need a Mac, to an extent I need an iPad, but I don't need an iPhone. It's a nice (and pricey) gadget, but I could use a cheap cell phone instead. Yet I choose to have one, and I get to choose if I want to buy one or not on a given year.

It took you this long? :)

Seriously though. I get your point. With the price hikes, unnecessary feature downgrades and aging product line then this may be the year that a lot of die-hard fans start realizing that they dont have to buy every phone, or even stay loyal to a company that no longer cares about users or the user experience.

(Please note, this isn't a slam on Apple. This is more about acceptance of what Apple is under Tim Cook. I'll keep buying Apple products, I just won't be buying them as often as I used to.)

These threads are a joke. Apple makes the phone everyone has been wanting them to make, as edge to edge as possible (cameras have to go somewhere), OLED, higher resolution, faster than anything else out there (even closing in on some computers) and people now say they don't want to support Apple any longer? Competition (Note 8) is basically the same cost. Components cost more, it's a business. If you don't like, don't buy, but please stop complaining to the masses like anyone cares.

Excellent points and well said. It is about time someone has to say the above comments :D

it's funny most people are touting this as one of the best iOS upgrades ever, but you seem to think it's terrible.

I said it's terrible for phones time and time again. Even after WWDC, it didn't offer much in terms of improvements. HEVC is something Android had for years. Why did it take this long for HEVC, especially when people have 16gb SEs or iPhone 6s devices? Why did we get a half-assed file system that won't let us access music files rather than relying on a useless iTunes platform? I shouldn't need iTunes to make ringtones from my MP3 files on an iPhone. For iPad, it makes it immensely more useful since it expands productivity. I only like iOS 11 on the iPad. As others share, iOS 11 is plagued with unoptimized software and a plethora of bugs.

It has done the exact opposite of turn me off. In fact, it is the first iphone I am really excited about since the SE (2 years). OLED, wireless charging (finally), amazing camera (even though the plus' have had that). I am ready to upgrade, and if there was no X, I would have just kept my SE.

For the iPad it’s great but it’s not that good for the phone

My point was that lots of people are stating that this is one of the best updates even for the phone. I just find it odd that some people find it so great and you don't.

I don't ultimately care what you think about the OS I just find it interesting.

Cared enough to point it out that you find it interesting. I am not too thrilled about iOS 11 on my iPhone SE. I kept it off the 7+ though.

Apple makes the phone everyone has been wanting them to make.

You are 100% sure that everyone wants an oled screen iPhone? Any reliable source for your statement?

Cause I think the majority of iPhone users either dont care about an iPhone or not even know what oled is or means.

Or maybe you mean with everyone, just about 20.000 macrumors readers who are about to switch to an iPhone X, which is a non-existant number for Apple Inc
