Has iPhone X turned you off Apple?

I am having zero issues with iOS 11 on my SE sorry to hear you aren't enjoying it.

It's all good because I am selling my SE sooner than later. Good little device, but I will just roll with my iPad as my lone iOS device. I do want to share that FB messenger did have problems for iOS 11 with me. Not all the apps are optimized for it either.

You are 100% sure that everyone wants an oled screen iPhone? Any reliable source for your statement?

Cause I think the majority of iPhone users either dont care about an iPhone or not even know what oled is or means.

Or maybe you mean with everyone, just about 20.000 macrumors readers who are about to switch to an iPhone X, which is a non-existant number for Apple Inc

I think people want OLED, they just don't know it. I really mean that. Until you have experienced an OLED you do not know what you are missing. I am sure people who use Samsung screens and are unaware of it being an OLED cannot quite put their finger on why they like the Samsung screens so much better than iphone screens. It is the OLED screen. When people go into the Apple store and see the OLED next to the 8plus screen, I think they will be surprised by the difference.

mmm okay, I still think majority of smartphone users just want a smartphone that just works and that has a nice camera. And an LCD screen is just fine for them.

Could be wrong ofcourse.

Not at all. People focus on trivial things (Zomg its just now getting wireless charging?) and forgetting the serious horsepower its packing under the hood. No one else is doing what Apple is currently doing with the new Bionic chip.

Apples greatest achievements with the iPhone haven't been whats on the surface, its what's underneath.
My 7 was just as fast as my 8 is now. What’s the point? I would have rather them underclocked it to 7 speeds and increase the battery life. The 7 runs iOS without a hitch with the Fusion chip.

Wireless charging, on the other hand, is a neat luxury that I’ve used every day. I have yet to have the need to plug in my device with my assortment of charging pads.

No of course not, but it has absolutely been one of the perceived "negatives" of the iPhone over the years. Competition has OLED, they want the iPhone to adopt the same. Either way, Apple isn't forcing anyone to buy, they are giving them options comparatively priced to the competition. In addition to the iPhone 8 with the LCD and Touch ID that people love, for less money. I don't see how offering options is something that makes people want to say "I'm done with Apple." I guess I just don't get it.

Everything about the X just seems like something I'm not interested in paying extra for. I'd rather unlock my phone with a finger. The LCD screen on my iPhone 7 looks incredible. I like the extra utility of having a home button.

I just see the X as the embodiment of everything I've feared about phones going forward. Phones are already so good these companies are running out of reasons to convince you to buy a new one. So now it's all about just making things different for the sake of them being "new", and different.

This is so true. FaceID is either going to be really good or a complete fail. I am really curious to see how it works when I am laying in bed and want to glance over at my phone. I wonder what kind of angles it can be effective at.

i can tell you, it has me. The iPhone X really has made me question what they are doing. I’m usually so wanting the new version of the iPhone but this time, it’s so expensive, the notch, the face id, the fact it’s got a lower res and inferior screen to most competitors phones etc etc. It’s not the product I thought it was gonna be.
Now Apple have a huge fan base. Almost like a football team, some will follow them whatever.
But I don’t see them like that. I like their products (or used to) and if my football team are playing badly, I’ll still give them my money and go watch them, to support them. Apple can’t expect us to do that with them. I’m not paying over £1000 for a shoddy product. I’m not supporting them, I want excellence for my £1000. And they aren’t delivering that anymore

I completely agree. They have lost their touch. I followed their leaks for months and was so excited for this iPhone, but the delays have turned me off and I have lost respect for them.

Exactly.

My mind was made up to upgrade from the 6s Plus to the 8 Plus about 14 seconds after I got done watching the keynote. I wanted to upgrade because the ear speaker was fading and the battery life was getting to the point where I'd be charging it every 4-5 hours.

The X has features I'm not interested in... mainly Face ID and the screen layout.

When the guy at the keynote was like "You had a 1 in 50k chance of getting your phone unlocked by a random fingerprint with Touch ID... it's now 1 in 1M chance with Face ID."

I was like "You really think I give a rats?"

More Apple Kool-Aid I'm not buying... I'll keep the 8 Plus and Touch ID for the next 2 years.

You make a good point. Although I have naked pics on my phone, sure, I know my phone could be hacked. I don't keep important personal info on my phone. I really don't use touch ID and I couldn't care less about face ID. I played with the iPhone 8 plus today at the Apple store in tyson's corner va and I actually liked it alot. I've always thought the plus was too big but I didn't mind it today after holding it. The only reason I'm buying the x is for the dual lens camera on a phone that's smaller than the plus model but today I'm rethinking and I have considered the 8 plus. I saw a pic of the x in person and that notch is uglier than I thought. It's like looking at a screen with a fly on it, you know it's there and the fly is harmless but you shoo it away 'cause it's aggrivating to see it on the screen.

"Very terrible update ..."

And you expect people to take you seriously ...

but it is a ****** update. It's like high sierra - nothing new, just small tweaks.

Idk about you, but if my sports team is doing bad, I don't give my money to them for support. Hence why I dont go to Bears games....

I remember the iPhone complaints in 2007.

No 3G??? Other phones have it.
No MMS??? Other phones can do that.
No Keyboard?? Have they gone mad??

Or the iPad in 2010.

No Multitasking??? Windows Tablets can.
No Stylus??? Windows has that
No camera?? It's DOA.

Or the iPod in 2001

Too expensive!!! Flash players are cheaper.
The back will scratch too easily.
Yawn, shouldn't they be making PC's?

Apple has never been perfect. The X is no different, it's just another step.

Vote with your wallet.
Well the difference here is that the iPhone, iPad and the iPod introduced new designs that we hadn't seen before so immediately questioned.

The iPhone X is just a copy of the Galaxy S8, except it looks 5x worse.

Nope! I've been waiting for a different design from Apple (less bezel) for a while and the day is finally here! It's using the latest consumer parts on the planet. And compares to other flagships. All while coming up with a completly fresh new design than others. Thats more than I can say for almost every other phone manufacturer that consistently takes either the whole design or many design cues from Apple.

To answer your question, I have been turned off of Apple's new products for a while if by "turned off" you mean not excited. I have the 16 gb iPhone 6 (got it a year later after release), and before that owned the 16gb iPhone 5. I never really cared for any of the ones after that. Don't care about bezel-less, didn't care about 3D touch, "water resistant", I never notice the incremental camera differences, didn't care about live photos, and as such dont care about the new face recognition software or wireless charging either. They are all gimmicks to which most people will not care about a year from the date of release. Not to mention the price point. I upgraded from the 5 to the 6 because it had a larger screen and the touch ID was genius. I guess i'm just one of those people where the gimmicks dont sell me. Im still flying along on my iPhone 6. It still as fast as it was when I first got it. I literally see no reason to upgrade.

My problem with apple now is that they have started to remove things from their products which now make my life harder. I didn't upgrade to the 7 because of the headphone jack removal. I still have the original retina MacBook pro because touch bar to me is a gimmick, and they started removing ports. I may in the near future upgrade to the 2015 model before the newer ones but that would most likely be it. Now they want to remove the fingerprint scanner in exchange for something which is imo slower. This is where i'm starting to worry.

How in the world does the X look like galaxys?? Rounded corners with no edge curve vs square with a curved edge. And if anything the X is a modern take on the iPhone 4.

I haven’t gone off Apple at all, but I’m stuck in a bit of a time warp. I can’t bring myself to pay the prices they’re charging for their products, it’s gone passed ridiculous at this point. One of the main issues is, that no matter how new the hardware (within reason), the software experience is largely the same, so why spend the extra?

So I’m “stuck” with my MacBook Air, which I’d love a Retina version of, as every other MacBook is overkill for my needs, so I can’t justify the costs.

Also, I’m sticking with my 6S+ until mid next year, when I can hopefully find a good deal on an iPhone X.

I don't watch the NFL, it's all a bunch of toxic masculinity. I'm comfortable with my sexuality, I don't need to watch a sport like this to make me feel like a man. (am not directing this at you, just in general). I see your point though, and I would stop paying for tickets to go if my team kept messing up. There's a point when you say life's too short to tolerate continuous bullcrap that other companies don't have. Best example of what Apple is doing with their products every year is the scene on "it runs in the family," where the housewives get the same gravy bowl every time they go to the theater.

congrats, i do the same. seeing someone holding it in a san francisco restaurant proves its ugly

Understood. I really only got into it as I played from middle school to college. I dont watch much of any of it anymore unless its the Super Bowl. The CTE studies and diagnosed dead players turns me away from it tbh.

Thats only the 64GB version the more practical 256GB is even more, then of course there is AppleCare as well.
Still it will be interesting to see if it has any bendgate style issues.

This is why I can't take you seriously. What on earth are you talking about "the delays have turned me off"? It literally hasn't been delayed once. It was announced for preorder on the 27th and Nov 3rd release and that has not changed.

The iPhone X is the phone they should have come out with 2-3 years ago. Then I may have been impressed. $1000 gets you a paltry amount of storage, a 3 year old samsung OLED screen with half the brightness and less resolution of their newer phones. Wireless charging which other companies have been doing for years, no USB C which other phones have (yet the macbooks have exclusively). A complex face detection system to increase manufacturing costs/lower production yield, and exponentially increase the cost to the consumer for a different way of unlocking your phone, which replaces a method that nobody seems to have any problem with. A notch in the screen that also does not add to function, and increases failure rate in the OLED's and raises production cost. Oh and it has quick charge capability, but because they cheaped out like they usually do with components and didn't do USB-C in their flagship device, you wont get to use it unless you fork out more money for chargers and conversion cables. How is this revolutionary??? Oh yeah, for Apple it may be, when you are 3 years behind your competition.

Honestly, what does this phone have that others don't, that actually gives you something new for that $1150? The coolest feature of the face detection is not the unlock, its the animoji's. That, I will give Apple credit for, a fresh, new good idea. A different way to unlock your phone will not amount to anything in your day to day productivity. What I'm trying to say is that for all the tech in the facial detection and increase cost of the phone to do something that the fingerprint scanner does fine is just not worth the extra cost. The OLED screen will be good for an iPhone but years behind the competition.

The only thing Apple is ahead of the game on are their processors, and profit margining their fan base to get as much money as they can for substandard tech. Man they get much credit there!! They make piles of money for hardly any innovation year over year. Don't tell me there isn't much to innovate when it comes to phones. How is the competition leaving them in the dust to the point they are finally giving their customers stuff that other phones have had for 3 years?

As an all Apple person, I haven't been impressed with much of what they have done in a while.... What bothers me is how all the fanboys sop this garbage up. Have any of you looked at other phones the last few years?? That iphone X is nothing others don't have except animojis and in many areas STILL BEHIND!!

The iPhone X is the pinnacle of Apple's achievement and their flagship device.... Really? Consider this Apple user seriously underwhelmed!! I think they are way too arrogant and no longer have the drive and abilities they once did. It shows in their software too.

Tim Cook is not a product guy, he's a guy to nickel and dime you to amass greatest profitability for apple.

I mean the delays that customers are going to have when they pre-order and don't get their devices on time. That is what I mean.
