I was initially not impressed with the X at all and my comments on the last few days reflected that.

Over time it has grown on my some. Do I want one? The answer is still a no.

This is so true. FaceID is either going to be really good or a complete fail. I am really curious to see how it works when I am laying in bed and want to glance over at my phone. I wonder what kind of angles it can be effective at.

This is what may be a problem w/FaceID. I tried to tell the ipX crowd that, but it wasn't getting thru to them.

What can you do?... /* shrug /

And why I like TouchID so damn much. It's bulletproof for me.

I don't watch the NFL, it's all a bunch of toxic masculinity. I'm comfortable with my sexuality, I don't need to watch a sport like this to make me feel like a man. (am not directing this at you, just in general). I see your point though, and I would stop paying for tickets to go if my team kept messing up. There's a point when you say life's too short to tolerate continuous bullcrap that other companies don't have. Best example of what Apple is doing with their products every year is the scene on "it runs in the family," where the housewives get the same gravy bowl every time they go to the theater.

congrats, i do the same. seeing someone holding it in a san francisco restaurant proves its ugly

That is not a picture then.

I think iOS11 is turning more people off coupled with advances, cost and hardware in competitor devices.

The question more is: will apple have touch ID alongside Face ID or is this the death of touch ID. Apple has known be rather bloody nosed about something before and fight on, so i doubt Face ID will be abandoned.

The question is what model will be the last with touch ID, if it is to be the 8 or 9, then frankly they look rather dated against the compeition. Also how will they fare over 2/3 years it will take for face id to mature....

I do remember Touch ID not being liked but now is fantastic.

The iPhone X is the phone they should have come out with 2-3 years ago. Then I may have been impressed. $1000 gets you a paltry amount of storage, a 3 year old samsung OLED screen with half the brightness and less resolution of their newer phones. Wireless charging which other companies have been doing for years, no USB C which other phones have (yet the macbooks have exclusively). A complex face detection system to increase manufacturing costs/lower production yield, and exponentially increase the cost to the consumer for a different way of unlocking your phone, which replaces a method that nobody seems to have any problem with. A notch in the screen that also does not add to function, and increases failure rate in the OLED's and raises production cost. Oh and it has quick charge capability, but because they cheaped out like they usually do with components and didn't do USB-C in their flagship device, you wont get to use it unless you fork out more money for chargers and conversion cables. How is this revolutionary??? Oh yeah, for Apple it may be, when you are 3 years behind your competition.

Honestly, what does this phone have that others don't, that actually gives you something new for that $1150? The coolest feature of the face detection is not the unlock, its the animoji's. That, I will give Apple credit for, a fresh, new good idea. A different way to unlock your phone will not amount to anything in your day to day productivity. What I'm trying to say is that for all the tech in the facial detection and increase cost of the phone to do something that the fingerprint scanner does fine is just not worth the extra cost. The OLED screen will be good for an iPhone but years behind the competition.

The only thing Apple is ahead of the game on are their processors, and profit margining their fan base to get as much money as they can for substandard tech. Man they get much credit there!! They make piles of money for hardly any innovation year over year. Don't tell me there isn't much to innovate when it comes to phones. How is the competition leaving them in the dust to the point they are finally giving their customers stuff that other phones have had for 3 years?

As an all Apple person, I haven't been impressed with much of what they have done in a while.... What bothers me is how all the fanboys sop this garbage up. Have any of you looked at other phones the last few years?? That iphone X is nothing others don't have except animojis and in many areas STILL BEHIND!!

The iPhone X is the pinnacle of Apple's achievement and their flagship device.... Really? Consider this Apple user seriously underwhelmed!! I think they are way too arrogant and no longer have the drive and abilities they once did. It shows in their software too.

Tim Cook is not a product guy, he's a guy to nickel and dime you to amass greatest profitability for apple.

It's all new for iOS users, that is what matters. It's comparatively priced to the Note 8, with far better performance, security, privacy, and ecosystem.

ios11 promises to be a great update or more of the some bug-laden and unoptimized code we've seen before.

for the 6s/+ owners ..I'd wait a little longer for Apple to work out the problems.

I never installed the initial x.0 version...

Also a lot of apple users wanted android type features in top of IOS and this is what we now have and this is why it will be in such high demand.

Been wanting OLED tech for years along with fast and wireless charging and we have that now. So for me that makes things worth it.

Also not sure where the logic is we are getting 3 year old samsung displays. All displays are from 2017. They aren’t as bright as the note 8 but they are not 3 year old displays

i can tell you, it has me. The iPhone X really has made me question what they are doing. I’m usually so wanting the new version of the iPhone but this time, it’s so expensive, the notch, the face id, the fact it’s got a lower res and inferior screen to most competitors phones etc etc. It’s not the product I thought it was gonna be.
Now Apple have a huge fan base. Almost like a football team, some will follow them whatever.
But I don’t see them like that. I like their products (or used to) and if my football team are playing badly, I’ll still give them my money and go watch them, to support them. Apple can’t expect us to do that with them. I’m not paying over £1000 for a shoddy product. I’m not supporting them, I want excellence for my £1000. And they aren’t delivering that anymore

The 8 is the new phone with the regular ”S” update as normal.. the X is a special edition phone to celebrate the 10 year anniversary. Next year the normal iphones get edge to edge and regular aliminium casing and regular price

"Has iPhone X turned you off Apple?"

No, Apple has turned me off from wanting the iPhone X.

Completely agree. I really don't understand the "Android phones have had this for years" mentality. I can only speak for myself, but I don't see myself leaving iOS anytime soon. I am heavily invested in this ecosystem (Apple's biggest sell) and I look forward to the new advancements in this specific platform. I really don't read into or even care what comes to or has come to Android. It's good that they are happy with their platform, but I see no reason to switch. The displays will be great, I will wait until I see one in person or they are tested to evaluate whether or not the nits thing is an actual issue, my guess is it won't be. Apple have always had really quality accurate displays.

During the conference, Apple showed a promotional video where a woman was in the pool with the phone flat on the ground. She was able to glance at it and unlock it. Obviously that is just a promo video, but it gives me hope the angles are good enough. If not, I may just buy a wireless charging stand like this for at night:

This is why I can't take you seriously. What on earth are you talking about "the delays have turned me off"? It literally hasn't been delayed once. It was announced for preorder on the 27th and Nov 3rd release and that has not changed.
This is the problem with people who read MR and similar outlets as a hard news site. It's right in the name, but some people think that everything on here is fact. There have been no delays, only speculation as to why the phone is being released a month after the 8/8+. But some people see the speculation and think it's the real reason, when the fact is that there is just as good a chance that the production times and release dates on the X are going as Apple expected them. We don't know.

Nice to see someone else gets it about the NFL. Toxic masculinity. I must remember that phrase. At the end of the day, this country is not really very civilized.

I must be doing it wrong. On Sunday I am in front of the TV all day :D. I seriously love the NFL. I try to go to at least 4 games a year, and visit a different stadium every year.

Not at all.

I won't buy one until I get one really cheap with a smashed screen though.

I do have a habit of rocking late model phones with broken screens for cheap...

Then selling them and going back to 'ol faithful. (An SE at the point, was a 5S for many years.)

How dare people enjoy forms of entertainment that I don't like. All those people should be sitting in coffee shops listening to the latest vinyl records like us civilised people. Savages, I bet they don't even order with soy milk.

I moved to an S8 earlier in the year but expected to move back to an iPhone when the new ones were released.

What I've seen hasn't impressed me at all and I will skip this year's iPhones and see what next year brings: The 8s aren't enough of an upgrade for me and I know that the notch on the X would drive me crazy (I'm not saying it's bad per se, but I personally can't stand it and would be constantly drawn to it)

That doesn't mean I've been put off Apple and still have plenty of Apple gear (including a 10.5 iPad and touchbar rMBPro and still have my SE for my iPhone fix), but for me, this year's iPhones have been a swing and a miss

I'm holding tight to see how this first year with X goes for everyone, if any new must-have apps come out.
Next year I will upgrade, after waiting 3 years (when normally I upgrade every 2 years) with my iPhone 6s Plus, to the XS.
OR: If I don't see the X creating any spectacular apps/use cases, then I'll probably just grab an 8 Plus.
Most everything released this year feels like added bells & whistles, not "gotta have it" stuff.
I hate to now feel this way, after being a staunch iPhone customer since 2009.

You are paying $300 or more extra this year for lack of top and bottom bezels that should of been figured out 2 years ago, and still a thick one surrounding the phone, plus a facial ID scanner that does nothing but can be used to track you and delay your progress in using the phone in a speedy fashion over Touch ID. LOL

or you know an OLED, better camera, and smaller form factor than the plus. No one can comment on FaceID without hands on.

and dont forget all of your apps, like the popular social media apps Snapchat and Facebook will still work exactly the same as any other iPhone. Well, you will get one free bonus with the iPhone X:

Facebook with a Notch
Snapchat with a Notch
Tinder with a Notch

After a few weeks of enjoyment the iPhone X will just work like most of the iPhones out there.
