I've had my iPhone 6 for about five days now. Yes, it's the flimsiest phone Apple has ever produced. I haven't really bent mine yet, and I've been fairly careful, but I keep an eye on it, and today it got a slight twist (you know, lay it face down, rock back and forth between two diagonal corners). So I twisted it back. Didn't take any real force at all, and got it back to perfect. Then a bit later it happened again. LOL! All from front carrying in regular old jeans (not tight, that's for sure).

*shrug*

Repeated twisting may eventually cause it to start malfunctioning, I suppose. As long as it's not an obvious bend that I can't fix by twisting it back, I'll just have Apple replace it when that happens. I'm otherwise happy with the phone, though I have to say iOS is a bit harder to use than Android ;). Love being back in the ecosystem for some things, but wish Apple could polish the OS up a little. It's not horrible, but it takes half again as long to do many things as I'm used to. The last time I owned an iPhone we were using 6.0 and it was a much snappier, stable experience.

I do think it's funny how much denial there is going on. It's just a phone, folks, and nobody on MR is responsible for the design. It's not a perfect phone, nor is it the best Apple has ever made (from a construction quality point of view, at least -- it's the most usable because of screen size & such :)). I see no reason to white knight for Apple. If they want to keep getting my money, they need to step it up. For something costing nearly a grand I expect a lot.

Dont think you have a iPhone 6 if you say 6.0 was snappier, that is just absolutely ridiculous thing to say

The bending thing was just the usual blown-out-of-proportion crapola that happens with each & every iPhone release.

FACT: ANY modern, slim smartphone can easily be bent if pressure is applied in the right spot. ANY OF THEM!! There is just a gigantic bullseye on Apple's back.

Easily bend? Not a fact.

I think a lot of people were, like me, scared off and are either looking at Android alternatives, or waiting for the next generation - or for news of a fix. Right now Apple is satisfying the pent up demand for more readable (ie larger) text from a lot of die hard long time iOS users, especially old people with declining eyesight and unwillingness to learn a new OS. I think once that demand is satisfied sales numbers are going to fall off a cliff. Apple's reports on sales have been very carefully worded.

iPhone 4/4S cracked glass hysteria went away

iPhone 5/5S bending silliness faded

This bending nonsense shall too pass.

WTF????

you do know that most Apps are being updated to take advantage of the larger screen and in no way have larger text compared to a 5s?!

The explanation for this is unequal thermal expansion of various iPhone 6 components during overnight charging.

load of BS...for temperature to be reached so at aluminium would be affected it would first set your house on fire....

Agreed. That idea falls flat on its face on three counts:

  1. Coefficient of thermal expansion isn't THAT big.http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/linear-thermal-expansion-d_1379.html
  2. Any thermal expansion when charging would be reversed when the phone cooled, returning it to its original state.
  3. and of course that if this were the cause it would affect VAST numbers of phones.

Ignorance of #1 is understandable given the pathetic state of science education/understanding, but the other two are a simple matter of critical thinking.

The 6 series is more prone to bending though. I bent an iPhone 5S trying to take off a speck candyshell case. I couldn't imagine the 6/6+ not bending if applying small force trying to take a case off if its snug.

I've taken my 6 plus in and out of 2 Speck CandyShell cases about 3-4 times now. It's not bent. Of course, I'm female and didn't brute force it out in a manly fashion, but there you go.

Perhaps I should make a YouTube video called "How to Remove Your 6/6+ From a Tight Case to Avoid Bending," but I suspect it would not be as popular as "My 6/6+ Just Bent Itself."

:D

What I've learned from Bendgate: some people consider fairly careless behavior to be "normal use of an iPhone." Then again, it's possible that I always baby my phones. Hard to say. Interesting, the psychology of it all.

Way to paint with a broad brush there, Sparky. :D

I'll be 59 next month (that means I'm old) and have owned the iPhone since the original came out. I've also used several Android phones in that time, so I'm accustomed to both operating systems. I've wanted a larger screen since before my eight eye surgeries, so I don't blame compromised eyesight for that wish.

I don't blame you, though. I thought the same way when I was younger.

That's okay. Everything will be fine after we older people kick it and there aren't any more old people.:D

If you dig through my posting history it's pretty apparent I'm an old people too. Old people do suck though. We ought to just turn ourselves in to the Solent factory.

And exactly which components are being thermally expanded with such force that they (a) bend metal and (b) aren't themselves affected by their thermal expansion?

Oh nevermind, this is just another "space aliens bent my phone" type theory.

Carry on.

Yes, it will die down in approximately 6 months when the 6S rumors start to fly.

Of course, there will be some other idiotic thing come up. Look...I'll bet I can taco-bend any Samsung Galaxy phone out there given the right situation.

The first iPhone 6/6+ bends came from people that were putting their naked, uncased iPhones in the back pocket of their skin-tight stretch jeans and sitting in a classroom. The rest came from people pushing their phones in the front pocket of the same jeans.

Well I'm glad you know this for a fact. Case closed then.

Exactly!
This has been closed for a while.

People are now trying to get the hairgate thing going again now that we are in "Movember".

Or jumping over to iPad Air 2 with the vibration and screen distortion complaints. I personally am looking forward to reading about the Apple Watch "gate" issues next year  :p

Yes it has, the peoples have finnally realized you can't sit on a larger thin phone or put it in your front pocket and bend over without bending it. Why do they call it common sense when it is so uncommon?

Exactly man! So uncommon to put a phone in your pocket....what was everyone thinking?? Are most Apple users just dumb??

The 6 Plus can (supposedly) handle about 20lbs more stress than the 6.

So, there's that... ;)

yeah...but its also wider and as such its body is acting like a fulcrum towards that stress point. like going to the gym and doing the cable exercise - things feel a lot less heavy.

I dont know...and im not willing to test it out myself haha

that video, silly as it seems did it for me - especially the uncut version.
