For those of you whose MBPs have shipped or are preparing for shipping, did you get an email from Apple or the shipper when the change occurred or was it a revelation due to your spastic checking of the order status page?

You'll receive an email when the status changes to Shipped, but not when it changes to Prepared for Shipment.
Also, since the orders are being filled pretty much in a linear fashion. The easy way to see when your order is going to prepare for shipment is to look at this thread and see whose orders are being filled. If someone who ordered a day before you is being prepared for shipment, then your order will probably be shipped in 24 hours.

How long does it usually take for the package to stay "In Transit" at Anchorage?
It arrived there at 4pm yesterday, and has been "In Transit - Anchorage" since 7pm last night...
I ask because it was supposed to be at my house tomorrow, but I'm thinking it might not if it's still all the way over there!

Same flight as yours. My delivery date is scheduled for May 3rd right now and I have 2-3 day shipping. I've seen other people receive their shipment the day after arriving in Anchorage...so I'm curious to see where mine gets held up for the next 4 days.
Nah, I got a 5400 planning on upgrading to an SSD at some point. Discover (was?) giving 5% cash back + the normal Cashback Bonus if you order through their site and use the Discover card to pay for the order. Couldn't pass up a 6% discount going that way. 😀

How can you guys stand to wait for the MBP to be delivered? I was going to just get it shipped to me, but decided it would help my sanity to just drive 1hr to the apple store and pick one up... Soo thankful there's one somewhat nearby. And can't wait till saturday when I get to go get it!

i imagine the fortunate individuals who got theirs the next day had 2-3 day shipping as well? or maybe they lived on the west coast to get theirs so fast. i live in florida lol 😛

Because a lot of the options people want arent carried in store, one of the big things being getting a HDD that spins at 7200rpm as opposed to 5400rpm. Thats my big hang up at least.
Otherwise id be at the store in a heartbeat.
Woohoo! It's in Alaska now! Well my updated shipping info says 'Scheduled Delivery Date: 30/04/2010 (Updated) '. So I still have a small glimmer of hope that it'll arrive sometime tomorrow.

Well, you can get a 7200 RPM drive from say, Newegg, that's probably better quality and cheaper. It may not have apple's warranty, but it will come with one from the manufacturer.
