Apple will put a hold on your payment method immediately, this is simply an "AUTH" and will drop off your account within a few days but wont actually do a "CAPTURE" until it ships, although it can take a couple of days after shipping for you to see it.
I ordered a Core i7 15" with the following options
- i7
- high res glossy
- 512gb ssd
- VGA adaptor
- 4GB RAM
I ordered it close to midnight on April 25. I see that just an hour or so ago the status was changed to PREPARED FOR SHIPMENT. OMG I am ready for this speed demon to show up! I ordered my 8GB of RAM from OWC today as well.
Question... how long does it typically take between "prepared for shipment" and "shipped"?

That's OK, as when I ordered my iMac in the past it was the same, day before last day of the delivery guess.

OK. My 15" Hi Res Glossy i7 (no other custom work) just changed to "prepared for shipment".
$10 says I still don't get it until Wednesday morning. And I live in the same city (Anchorage) that is it's first US stopping point.

Received my Macbook Pro at about 9am this morning. All in all just shy of the two week mark since I placed my order (May 3 would've been 14 days).
I ordered:
MBP 15.4/2.66/500GB @ 7200/HR GLOSSY
I'm in the same boat. I just called AppleCare in regards to a different question and asked that one. They said that I should get a tracking number in the next couple hours or by tonight.
The apple lady i talked to said it will either ship today or Monday and i can't get any faster than the 2 - 3 day shipping.
I did 2.-3 day shipping too. So if it goes out today that means Between May and May 5th. HELLS YEAH. I need something to put in my new Osprey messenger bag.
Mine just delivered. Unfortunately I am at work so I will have to wait a couple hours before I can get it but this is most certainly a good day.

well... i ordered april 19th in the morning. the money was charged within the hour. it seems my laptop has been in anchorage for the past 24 hours, which is a total bummer. i was hoping for some movement today so that i could get it by monday as originally stated by apple but i guess it's coming on tuesday. well, a day won't hurt. 
I would have done that but I thought I was going to get it last week when I was on vacation. It took a week longer than I anticipated so here I am...at work...using my 2Ghz C2D Mac Mini w/1Gb of RAM literally watching each minute go by...
This two hour wait is harder than the past 6 months I have been waiting for Arrandale's release.
You my friend have a wonderful machine right now compared to mine. I've had my PB 12" since a few months before Intel came ashore the Apple continent. I've been rocking this little guy ever since, and it is much less robust than your C2D!
they just give you the tracking number to tortue you by showing you that they didnt get your package to fedex by the cutoff time and now there is no more flights out of shanghai for the week. so my package is sitting in Shanghai until monday night their time. meanwhile, my coworker is unboxing is 3g Ipad today. sure does look like apple cares more about getting ipads to their owners on time. Meanwhile, I ordered a $3000 machine that I will be receiving over 2 weeks from the original order date.
That is a very good point. I listen to MacBreak Weekly and they always talk about how it seems Apple is turning into a consumer device company and straying from the computers. I bet the upside in terms of profit is much higher on the consumer devices like iPods,iPhones, and iPads.
Although it is 4am in Shanghai (Saturday) does FedEx not ship on Saturday? And are we speaking local time (for me PDT) or Shanghai time?
Hmm if its Saturday 4 AM does that mean we aren't going to get shipment status until monday then?
Hell yah mine just changed to prepared for shipment to man! Thought for sure I was gonna get an email saying they were delayed haha
I sure hope not. I'd like it to at least get on a plane and be in Anchorage by tonight.
I live on the west coast. Does anyone know if shipments to the westcoast end up in some midwest hub first then come back or will it most likely go to Sea-Tac from Anchorage?
