AT&T apparently has forgotten I have internet service with them...

I had to uninstall HBO Now and reinstall it to get it to work on the one device i have tried it on. AT&T makes everything so confusing.

It would be nice if they had HBO Max inside the Apple TV app. I’ve tried to get away from stand-alone apps as much as possible, I like the interface consistency of everything in one place. (and no, I don’t watch much Netflix - I find most of their shows and movies overrated)
This. Especially since it’s not available on Roku. I haven’t used my Apple TV box in forever. Now I have to go there just for this app. Annoying.

Update on what they say please. I have the 1GB Fiber and get an error message as well.
They have no idea what's going on. So far they've wanted me to reset my router and restart my devices. I've been transferred to 4 different agents in 3 departments

OK so I started something via the HBO Max app and then HBO Max showed up in the TV app on my iOS devices. It still doesn’t show up in the TV app on my Roku TV. Is that TV app different than the one on iOS devices?

Ok, for everyone with an AT&T Fiber account that qualifies for the free plan here is what I had to do to get the account setup after it would not work initially.

The source of my problem, which I found out through a Chat with a very helpful AT&T rep, was that the user ID for my AT&T account was a user name rather than an email address. To change your AT&T Access ID, just click on "Person" icon located on top right corner of the page. Then click on "Manage Profile". On Profile, then click "Sign In Info" to change Access ID.

Once I did this it prompted me to log out and then back in with my new user ID (email address) and password. Once I did there was a prompt on the Account Overview page (the main page when you login) to setup the HBO Max account. That went off without a hitch from there.

Hope this helps.

SO whats with the "Apple TV" sign in? I have AT&T unlimited plan and had no issues logging in, but I was just wonder what that login was for.

May 26 2020:

That article is beyond confusing. It makes it sound like you can access HBO Max through the HBO Now app on the Roku. I guess my question is, is the only thing not supported is being billed through Roku?

From the article:
"There's some good news and bad news, Roku users. The bad? You can't watch HBO Max on Roku. The good? There are still a lot of other ways to watch the app."

and then it states:

"Already subscribe to HBO through HBO Now? Then you can watch through the app for free."

I have the opposite. I don't have a user ID but an email for my log in.

See above. They're mucking about. My Internet service didn't show for a while, and that was after struggling to even get logged in to my ATT account.

Logged back in after clearing cache and found this on my overview page -- followed the link and created my HBOMax account linked to my ATT account.

Ok I finally got the window where I can sign up for HBO Max on my Att Fiber 1000 Account but I guess too much traffic that the website is crashing.

Once you click on get started it takes you to HBO Max Set up account.

They doubled the bitrate of HBO Max over what HBO Now was. This is really nice.

Right now you need the stand alone app. As far as I can see to get the extra backlog catalog. Not even showing up as an appletv channel for hbo max yet.
There will not be an Apple Channel for this.

I’m a little confused. I switched to Unlimited Elite specifically to get HBO Max included while I was able to sign into the app just fine, this is what the AT&T app is showing. I didn’t sign up just to get a month free, I signed up so my girlfriend could watch Friends again.

I am not enjoying my "experience" with HBO Max.

First of all, and this is huge to me, there is no 4K or HDR video quality. I have a massive new 4K TV and I cannot stand to watch shows in lower quality, especially ones like Doom Patrol which are available in 4K in the DCU app.

Second, I signed up to this because I expected a bunch of the DCU shows would be on HBO Max. Instead, all I see is Doom Patrol. Horrible bait and switch.

Finally, the originals (not HBO, but HBO Max originals) suck!
Originals:
  1. Elmo Late Show - good for kids, not adults.
  2. Legendary drag queen-fest, excuse me while I vomit in the corner.
  3. Love Life - about a living sex doll, wtf, no.
  4. Craftopia? The less said about that the better.
  5. The only decent thing is "On the Record," which Apple rejected unfortunately because Oprah nixed it.

Disney+ is leagues better than HBO Max, in my opinion. I wish these shows would have stayed on Hulu (looking at you, Rick and Morty), which is also far superior to HBO Max. Apple TV+ had far better originals than HBO Max at launch (not referring to classic HBO originals, only HBO Max originals).

Unfortunately no, my userID is an email address. I was able to click on Get Started and even got an email saying WElcome to HBO Max. But when logging in to HBOMax it can't find my subsciption info. AT&T says theres a "known issue" and it should be resolved soon. Who know at this point :)

Have to say, the HBO situation is pretty dumb. Just make it one thing, HBO, and have that rolled into all services, channels, apps, across all platforms/devices. I don't see how anyone couldn't agree. Maybe they wanted a slow roll out considering there isn't anything on there that is worthwhile?

I'm still confused about this. I have HBO as an AppleTV+ channel. Did that change to HBO Max or do I need to cancel that and download an HBO Max app?

I am able to access HBO Max content through the normal HBO channel that I pay for. I tried to download the app and restore purchase, but said no. Not sure if this is how it is supposed to be though.

Concerning platforms:
"If you would still prefer to access HBO Max via your Roku device, all hope isn't lost. Roku and HBO are in talks to secure a deal to put HBO Max on the platform, but a spokesperson tells Bustle that while they "believe that HBO Max would benefit greatly from distribution on Roku at launch," the two services haven't yet reached an agreement.
The main obstacle in an HBO Max and Roku deal is the cut of subscription fees the OTT platform would take, as well as Warner Media's insistence that HBO Max be offered as an app experience, similar to Netflix or Disney+, per Variety. WarnerMedia appears unwilling to strike an HBO Max deal with Amazon for a similar reason, even though HBO subscriptions without HBO Max will remain available on FireTV platforms and Prime Video Channels."

To be fair, I don't think Max is really pulling in that many new customers. HBO has and always will be the draw. As a current HBO subscriber I get more shows and a higher bit rate.
