Concerning platforms:
"If you would still prefer to access HBO Max via your Roku device, all hope isn't lost. Roku and HBO are in talks to secure a deal to put HBO Max on the platform, but a spokesperson tells Bustle that while they "believe that HBO Max would benefit greatly from distribution on Roku at launch," the two services haven't yet reached an agreement.
The main obstacle in an HBO Max and Roku deal is the cut of subscription fees the OTT platform would take, as well as Warner Media's insistence that HBO Max be offered as an app experience, similar to Netflix or Disney+, per Variety. WarnerMedia appears unwilling to strike an HBO Max deal with Amazon for a similar reason, even though HBO subscriptions without HBO Max will remain available on FireTV platforms and Prime Video Channels."

Still lost haha. I will figure it out by the time there is worthwhile content on there.

Log into your ATT account through a web browser and there is a banner on the right side to activate HBO Max on your ATT ID so you can sign in with it.
Thanks, got it working. First time I tried it gave me an error, but then I followed the steps again and it activated.

You need the internet 1000 plan, nothing lower than that....

Point was that AT&T website was so messed up they weren't showing my AT&T Internet plan under My Services.

I was later able to get it set up. Oddly still says "Get Started" on the HBO MAX yet I'm able to login to hbomax.com and have a profile set up.

…the originals (not HBO, but HBO Max originals) suck!
Originals:
  1. Elmo Late Show - good for kids, not adults.
  2. Legendary drag queen-fest, excuse me while I vomit in the corner.

Regarding #1, don't watch it. Considering at the end of your post you highlight Disney+ as superior, given that a large chunk of its content is 'for kids', you should be more than capable of this.

As for #2, congratulations at your performative outrage. If diversity sickens you so much, this Apple support article entitled 'Move and hide apps on your Apple TV' should help you delete the HBO Max app and you can continue watching the content library you previously enjoyed.

So now when I’m scrolling through the HBO channel in the Apple TV app, some of it plays natively and some of it tries to launch in a separate app.

Gross

I am assuming it’s the HBO stuff that plays in-app and the rest that takes you out to the HBO Max app?

I had HBO GO through cable company, not the NOW app, and mine was not letting me connect it to the ATV+ app, but it looks like an update may have went through. I got an app update on iOS and it now shows movies and tv show from HBOMAX in the up next on iOS and TVOS.

That's correct. Any content that isn't under the HBO banner loads the app. For most people who didn't subscribe to HBO via Apple Channels, the HBO channel isn't even an option anymore. They're just pushing people towards the stand-alone app I used to use the channel because it streamed with a higher bitrate than the app, but now the HBO Max app streams at a higher bitrate than Apple was offering HBO at.

The only way I would have interest would be 4k. Not sure how they just ignored this.
Game of Thrones, Westworld, most of their movies, all are in 4k.
This is the service that makes the most sense.

I honestly prefer Apple TV+ to Disney+ for the reasons you outlined. Disney+ is very kid-oriented. Apple TV+ hits the sweet spot of quality adult content. As I stated in my original post, HBO originals are good. My point was that EVEN Disney+ (which I find average) is better than the HBO Max launch and originals. HBO Max is steaming garbage.

Diversity is fine. Drag queen shows are vomit inducing.

i always buy a digital iTunes gift card on Walmart.com and then subscribe via the App Store. However Hulu even works with my German credit card

Hulu works with my european credit cards so no need for itunes credit.
I tried it on my tv with samsung pay and paypal but not working either. Let me know if you find a solution.
Thx

Since they took everything old off Amazon Prime(The Wire, Curb, Sopranos, Rome...). I'm going to have to get this. At least for a few months.

Plus I need to catch up on the third season of Westworld.

Really disappointed that it requires the HBO Max app. What’s the point of subscribing through Apple Channels? (Rhetorical, obviously there isn’t one, which is exactly the point.)

Given how extraordinarily lousy the streaming quality of the HBO Now app is/was, I don’t even plan on downloading the Max app.

Might just be time to cancel my subscription. I’m tired of how lazy HBO is with their product development. (When I showed them photos of how bad GoT looked on my TV, their response was that they don’t recommend playing their content on 4K TVs .)

I downloaded the HBO MAX app to my phone. I usually use GO, as I pay for HBO through my cable service, Optimum.
It allowed me to log-in (well create an MAX account) using my Optimum credentials. Then said I would be billed through Optimum.
Did I just sign up for a new service? Nowhere in the process I just did, said I was paying for anything. So confusing. Been an HBO subscriber forever..

For HBO Max? Like I said I bought a gift card online and signed up for it via iTunes. US Apple ID required but in my case I have had one for as long as I can remember

Well that went wrong for me 😅
Purchased an itunes card on walmart just minutes ago but i got a mail telling me it was canceled because my credit card is not from the usa.. the us ID and so on i have.. i just need the credit. Anyways i asked a friend in florida to buy an itunes card for me.. just to try it for a month. I don't know if its worth it and i already regret the disney+ fiasco ...
anyways thank you.
