I'd hardly call it a dud as it gave BluRay a run for it's money (apparently quite literally too).

It's a shame that BluRay is likely to win now. I wanted a region free format, so it looks again like Digital Distribution is going to be my HD delivery method.

id call it a dud because it got a head start and fell way short. you think it gave it a run for the money, but really did it? to me it was pretty obvious from the beginning where this war was headed.

I would also call you a dud cause you never engange in a meaningful subject on the matter and never listen when people tell you things like: hd-dvd approved regiond coding last year and also region coding is turned off on blu-rays after their theatrical run.

those are things that have been explained to you, by me and others, in numerous threads yet you keep bringing it up?

have fun with digital distribution, when and if it ever happens of course.....i enjoy my bandwith and fullHD 1080p :D

I guess I can also call you a dud, since the download has no impact on my regular internet usage (since you're keeping stock of posts from other boards). Also, you have limited bandwidth? They pretty much dropped that here.
I suppose it's a myth that my PS3 can only play some Blue Ray imports whilst friends 360 is playing imports from all over the world... Dates and everything aside - there's a lack of region coding enforcement on HD-DVD.

Oh, and DD is happening now. Xbox 360, iTunes, even torrents. DD has been going for a very long time in all shades of legalities. Even our TV stations are going down the DD route - BBC and Channel 4 are really pushing for it.

And sorry for going personal, but do you do anything but argue over HD formats?

What about Sony and their Rootkit fiasco :D I don't really trust either as far as DRM and harmful anti-piracy measures.
Was it it not Sony audio CD's that had some kind of protection that if you played them on your PC it would emit some speaker damaging frequency?

I didn't say I liked Sony's antics either, but they're the lesser of the two evils and Blu-ray was developed by the BDA, which contains many companies, one of them being Apple. :)

Sony by itself when has come to anything that contains music and their DRM, is why I will not buy a PSP when it comes down to it. I've rambled many times about my horrid experience with my Sony Clié. If I had not owned a Clié, I would have bought a PSP day one, since I love portables and Sony for me in the past(ninties) was a good company. But having that experience, I knew that the PSP would be no better than the Clié and would contain the same sort of music restrictions, which it did. If they've addressed this by now, I do not know? I also dislike memory sticks. :)

And since I don't rip my CDs from my PCs and Apple would not allow Sony to do the Rootkit for OS X, I have no worries about the fantasty you described. :p Pay for Play and rental music is here now with MS. Although that's good for them, it's not good for any consumer and I will not support them because of it. They even have plans of making Office a rental app. EVIL!!!

None of those sources you listed have HD (besides torrents if you will be theiving all of your HD movies). and you said you will be getting your HD from DD from now on, so try again. itunes quality is actually really bad IMO.

you can call me a dud because the "download has no impact on my regular internet usage"? yes, I am dud because of that?

theres a reason there is a lack of region coding...its a dead format...had it not been a dead format from the start, region coding would have been used because ultimately thats what studios want. LIKE I'VE SAID AGAIN AND AGAIN, this has been explained to you many times in threads like this, hd-dvd approved region coding last year. why do you keep bringing that up as an advantage to an already deceased format? people like you are the only reason I am forced to post in these threads all the time, you never learn a thing. I really don't take anything personal from you, as I've noticed you have a pre-conceived notion of reality which will not budge.

you tried to save a buck and got burned, just admit it and move on. many others like you have

As I keep saying over and over = it isn't implimented. Hence my friends importing and skipping out on the large HD media cost in the UK. I'll keep bringing it up as well until the majority of HD-DVD releases are region locked... infact are any HD-DVDs actually locked?

I'm sorry but you're completely annoying me now-

- I didn't get "burned" as I haven't bought into any of these formats yet ( must have a selective memory?). Odd how you read and memorise all my posts but forget this constantly brought up point.
- "None of those sources you listed have HD", selective vision too it seems. You completely missed out the Xbox 360 HD source. Live Marketplace has HD video for download...

And your dud naming? Screw it. I can't be bothered to get involved with this petty name calling over a Blue Ray fanatic.

Please stop trolling, Monkeytap. I've seen your post history. You only post in threads relating to Blu-ray, and do nothing except troll Blu-ray. Occasionally you jump into a HD-DVD thread to tell the buyers they should have gotten Blu-ray. I'd suspect you of being a paid Sony marketer except you don't seem smart enough, and I'm too bored to check with my contacts at Sony to find out.

I would encourage any other readers here to check Monkeytap's post history, as well as the mods.

I will not reply to any posts you make until you start participating productively on these boards. Have a nice day.

Ignore him, seriously.

Also, every time you say "Blue Ray", Howard Stringer kills a puppy. Think of the puppies.

The ignore feature is pretty ace in these situations. That search jimi posted was hilarious. Format fanatics? That's a new one on me.

Somehow I missed Jimmi posting that; I looked through his history last time we got into a discussion. I've just avoided threads with him for the most part since.

It's hilarious that we've got film format fanboys these days though!

It'd be hilarious if it wasn't so tragic. It really is just plastic discs that contain a movie, since they both use the same codecs, same frikkin coloured lasers.

^ So now you all see why I was getting so annoyed with him and said he was trolling way back.

I noted his post history when he first began hijacking this thread. Hence the reason I wanted it closed as I just couldn't be bothered. Dealing with more Life™ stuff that is more infinitely more important than caressing his ego.

Even after this announcement, I still don't mind being an HD-DVD supporter. Actually, with the announcement from Warner, I have been able to buy a bunch of HD-DVD movies from people for super cheap. We still have a good 5-6 months before Warner stops releasing movies on HD-DVD. My plan is to continue to buy HD-DVD movies and maybe later in 2008, buy a dual format player and just make an easy transition to Blu-Ray. I already have enough invested in HD-DVD and they aren't any less quality than Blu-Ray (in some cases better with the extra HDi features).

I really don't think HD-DVD will go the same path at laserdisc. The problem with laserdisc was that the discs were only good in a laserdisc player (obviously) and no other media used that size. with HD-DVD and every other optical media out right now, they all use the same size disk. It is going to much easier for companies to include HD-DVD support in a player in the future. It may end up something like DivX, where good players can play a disc in that HD-DVD format. I'm ok with that.

you never respond to my posts when I particpate productively, and please feel free to refrain from posting....we could all save a few brain cells

You never HAVE; you have never posted in any thread outside of Blu-ray debates where you harp on about HD-DVD sucking. Even Blu-ray fans get annoyed with you.

Last time I checked I could download HD off LIVE Marketplace, which amazingly, was one jimmi listed...

It's really odd that he thinks he is so informed yet clearly isn't. Hell I never even ventured onto the Marketplace when I had 360 or even care about HD but I still know about it.

Amazon may not be significant, but it shows the dying trend.

The amazing thing about the last couple of pages of this thread Ed H, is that no one has said anything we don't already know... HD-DVD will now most likely 'loose'. Shame from my point of view, but one way or the other it was going to happen. Will have to buy 300 before it goes Blu-Ray.

It would have been interesting to see what would have happened if M$ had put HD-DVD in the 360.

Amazon may not be significant, but it shows the dying trend.

That's a predictive chart and not current figures (hypothesis), just to make that clear for people.

I think it will take a little longer than 6 months for it to happen like that, but maybe 12 or so.

I think there are still way too many people who are happy with DVD who aren't making any format decision or leap to HD, and chances are its going to take a lot longer for them to do so. :)

Buy BR disc from US, put it in Pal PS3. PS3 says no.
Buy HD disc from US, put it in Pal HD-DVD drive. 360/PC says yes.

which BR disc are you refering to? I thought you did not have a blu-ray player? sony insideres have confirmed region coding is only being used for movies during the theatrical run.

this has been explained to you by me and others, but never gets through your thick skull.

the lack of region coding for hd-dvd is simply a testament to the lack of confidence for the format. do you still not understand that?

haha

this is what I said in the post above....you obviously do not read the thread in its entirety.

"you actually, for once, taught me something!! good job! I did not know xbox 360 offereded HD sources....what do they offer?"

im still waiting to hear how many titles they offer.... :D

It's really odd that he thinks he is so informed yet clearly isn't. Hell I never even ventured onto the Marketplace when I had 360 or even care about HD but I still know about it.

or even care about HD? for someone who doesn't care about HD you sure act like you know what your talking about..

i tried searching to find what titles are available on marketplace, still havent gotten a real answer from any of your fools, you are still complaining I did not know about it!!!! only could find v for vendetta and looney tunes....the bitrate is pathetic!

I don't get why everyone is annoyed by this guy. I mean, i always find it fun playing with these little kiddies :)

Too bad i'm not too interested in HD or i'd join in!

Some people take things WAY too seriously! :D

Just agree with him and he'll get bored and go away.

I'll start off!
